Abstract
A screw propeller 10 with hub portion 17 and blades 10a-10d has fluid ducts 13a, 13b, 13c in the blades. The fluid discharge openings 16 are located within a distance of 0À85 of the propeller tip radius from the blade root and they direct a jet sheet at an angle of between 15 and 75 degrees from the nose-tail line of each chord section of the blades. In the embodiment shown the width of the discharge openings is between 0À005 and 0À03 of the length of the nosetail line of the chord section and the openings are within a distance of 0À15 that length from the trailing edge of a blade. Fluid is passed to the ducts down drive-shaft 11 and through ports 18 of the hub.
