Abstract

In a method of relining or repairing cylindrical kiln linings, apparatus comprising a plurality of jacks 13 situated around an arched member 8 of a jacking carriage 2 mounted on a bridge structure 1 is inserted into the kiln after the lower half of the lining has been completed to facilitate assembly of the upper part of the lining. Lining bricks, which are applied simultaneously to each side of the kiln are held in place by individually operable hydraulic jacks 13, a keying brick being inserted at the top to complete the ring of bricks. The jacks are then released and the carriage 2 moved along to the position of the next ring. A plurality of bridge structures 1, each having bearing plates 5 to contact the lower part of the kiln lining, are located at spaced intervals along the length of the kiln, each one supporting a pair of parallel rails 6 along which the jacking carriage moves on a wheeled bogey 12. In an alternative construction shown in Fig. 4, the bridge structure has an arcuate frame 21 to contact the lower part of the kiln lining.
