Abstract

Textile material, as continuously moving yarn, web, ribbon, foil or film, contacts liquid on a porous surface without contacting the surface. A yarn 4 is passed continuously at high speed in front of and spaced from the external planar surface of a disc-shaped porous partition 1 through which yarn-treating liquid is fed, the yarn making contact with the liquid but not the partition. The partition is masked each side of the yarn by a cover 3. A plurality of such devices may be arranged along the sides of a polygon, the operating surfaces facing inwards (for bristles or tyre cord of large diameter) or outwards (for successive treatments using a rotary arrangement). Two devices may be arranged in series in the same plane or side-by-side in opposed relationship. In the latter case, the two devices may operate simultaneously or alternately with lateral displacement of the yarn from one device to the other. The partition may be of sintered steel, bronze, glass, porcelain, alumina, polyamide, PTFE or polyolefin and have a grain of 3-100 microns. The treating liquid may be an oily composition containing ethylhexyl stearate, potassium lauryl phosphate, and non-ionic emulsifier.
