Abstract

An air cleaner comprises an array of parallel corrugated baffles 2, defining tortuous passages along which the air flows therebetween, the rounded bends in the baffles becoming progressively sharper from upstream to downstream side. Fig. 2 shows baffles whose successive included angles [alpha] may be 100, 90 - and 80 degrees. In Fig. 3 (not shown), successive bends have decreasing radii of curvature of 20, 17 and 13 mm. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the planar sections of each baffle, upstream and downstream of the corrugations, are laterally staggered, and the downstream bend in each passage is displaced sideways of the others. There may be two to six bends in a passage. The cleaner is used in an air conditioning system downstream of a blower and a water spray humidifier (13) (Fig. 5, not shown), to remove the water droplets from the air.
