Abstract

An abrasive scouring cleanser composition in the form of a dry powder comprises at least 60% of a water-insoluble inorganic siliceous abrasive material having a particle size of less than 0-5 mm., 0À1-20% of an alkali metal monopersulphate, 0À5-15% of a water-soluble organic detergent stable in the presence of the monopersulphate and 0À1-10% of a watersoluble inorganic bromide. Suitably the alkali metal monopersulphate is the potassium or sodium salt or the triple salt 2KH50 5 , KHSO 4 , K 2 50 4 and the bromide is the sodium, potassium, lithium, magnesium or strontium salt. Suitable organic detergents are anionic, cationic, amphoteric or non-ionic in character and examples of each class are given. The abrasive material may be silica, feldspar, pumice, volcanic ash, diatomaceous earth, bentonite, talc or mixtures thereof. The cleanser composition may contain additional ingredients such as inorganic builder salts, sequestering agents (e.g. nitrilotriacetic acid, ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid, diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid and their salts), fillers (e.g. wood pulp, sawdust, magnesite or whiting), sodium carboxymethylcellulose, anticaking agents and optical brighteners.
