Abstract
A spinneret assembly for producing a multifilament yarn in which each of the individual filaments is of the conjugate type and has a layered structure comprises a housing 1 (Fig. 1) containing a distribution plate 2 (Figs. 1 and 3), two discs 3 and 4 with stream distributing and guiding channels and a spinneret plate 5, the members 2 to 5 being positioned one above the other within the housing. The spinneret 5 has spinning orifices 9 the inlet portion of each of which is of relatively large cross-section and the outlet portion of each of which is of relatively small cross-section. The distribution plate 2 communicates with two feed conduits 6 and 7 for the introduction of two different spinning liquids respectively into the spinneret assembly, each conduit leading into a separate system of channels in the distribution plate 2. The outlet branches of these channel systems end opposite the facing inlets of channels 8 extending through the upper disc 3 to the inlets of channels 8a leading through the lower disc 4. The outlet ends of the channels 8a end opposite the facing inlets of the spinneret plate orifices 9. As shown in Fig. 2, which is a plan view of the mixing disc 3, the channels 8 are so arranged in pairs that the inflow and outflow openings of each pair lie within longitudinal zones passing through the disc and having square cross-sections. As a result, all the spinning liquid which flows into a pair of channels 8 of the mixing disc 3 flows into only one spinning orifice 9 of the spinneret 5 exclusive of the other spinning liquids. As shown in Fig. 4, which is a plan view of the inlets of a pair of channels 8, the two channels 18 and 19 which form said pair 8 have adjacent rectangular inflow openings and parallel to their partition these channels narrow in opposite directions to square cross-sections. From these square cross-sections the channels 18 and 19 widen in the transverse direction until they have reached their original rectangular shape. Fig. 3 shows the detail III of Fig. 1 on a larger scale and it can be seen that the outlets of channels 18 and 19 extending through the disc 3 end in identical channels through the disc 4. It should however be noted that the partitions between the channels 18 and 19 are at right angles to the partitions between the channels 20 and 21. In this way the spinning liquid issuing from each of the channels 18 and 19 is uniformly distributed over each of the channels 20 and 21. In operation a spinning liquid is fed through the feed inlet 7 to a system of channels 10 in the distribution plate 2. From each of the channels of this system 10 the spinning liquid flows through inlets 11 into chambers 13. At the same time a different spinning liquid is fed through the feed inlet 6 to a second system of channels (not shown). From each of the channels of the second system the second spinning liquid flows through the inlets 12 into chambers 14. The chambers of each pair of chambers 13 and 14 are separated by partitions 15, 16 and 17. The chambers 13 and 14 have square outflow openings each of which covers half the surface area of the square inflow openings of the pairs of channels 18 and 19. As a result, into the one half of each channel 18 and 19 there flows the spinning liquid from the feed inlet 6 and into the other half of these channels the other spinning liquid from the feed inlet 7. After the two spinning liquids have flowed simultaneously through each of channels in the two discs 3 and 4 the composite stream of the two spinning liquids flowing into each of the spinning orifices 9 is composed of 8 layers. Each filament spun from the spinning orifices 9 is therefore also composed of 8 layers. The filaments may be formed by either melt-spinning or dry-spinning.
