Abstract

A process for making acrolein and acrylic acid from propylene and methacrolein and methacrylic acid from isobutylene comprises passing vapours of propylene or isobutylene respectively and an oxygen-containing gas over a catalyst comprising MnMo0 4 , TeO 2 and Mn 2 P 2 O 7 at 300-550 C. The vapours may include steam or an inert saturated hydrocarbon. The process may be effected in a fixed or fluidized bed, at atmospheric or higher and lower pressures. Comparative examples are provided.
