Abstract
Acrolein and methacrolein are produced from propylene and isobutylene respectively by oxidation at 400-600 DEG C. in the presence of a catalyst comprising Ag4P2O7, Cu2P2 O7 and Fe2(P2O7)3. Examples describe reaction conditions, starting material ratios and yields. If desired inert diluents e.g. steam, inert gases or alkanes may be used.ALSO:An oxidation catalyst comprises Ag4P2O7, Cu2P2O7 and Fe2(P2O7)3. The catalyst may be prepared conventionally and support on SiO2, diatomaceous earth, kieselguhr, clay alumina, silicon carbide or ZrO2. The catalyst, depending on mesh size may be used in fixed or fluidized beds.
