Abstract

A circuit arrangement for governing the current applied to a load such as gas discharge lighting tubes and the like, comprising an alternating current source, a controlled rectifier connected between said alternating current source and said load, said rectifier being controlled normally, non-conductive, to block the passage of current to said load and having electrode control means to make it conductive, drive means connected to said alternating current source and said electrode control means to apply a steering signal to said means control electrodes at a predetermined time in each cycle of alternating current, said drive means including a resistor and a capacitance connected together in series, and voltage-sensitive symmetric switch means connected through said capacitance, and means, connected between said means controlled rectifiers and dic charging means, to provide said charging means with a high voltage surge pulse.
