Abstract
A method of assembling at least part of a C.R.T. electron gun comprises firing a plurality of spaced electrodes in a jig 7 including a pin 9, 10 which extends tightly through an aperture in each electrode, the pin alone holding the apertures coaxial and joining the electrodes together mechanically and electrically to terminals by melting solder into joints which have initial clearances and into grooves in an electrically insulating body 14. Parts 2, 3 form a box-shaped anode which is spaced from a control anode 1 by a ring 13. Terminal rods 15, (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), the body 14 and a cylinder 19 are also mounted in the jig with a clearance between adjacent surfaces about which rings 16 of Sn-Cu or Ag-Cu solder are placed. A cap 18 is placed over the jig which is heated in a reducing furnace to melt the solder which fills the clearances and grooves in body 14 connecting electrodes 1, 19 to terminals 20. Soldered surfaces are preferably of CuNi. The gun may be used in a display or vidicon tube supported entirely by the terminals sealed into the tube base.
