Abstract
1,097,588. Cathode ray tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 6, 1965 [Jan. 6, 1964], No. 195/65. Heading H1D. An electron gun includes a plurality of metal members-which include apertured electrodes-secured, by brazing, across the ends of a corresponding plurality of tubular insulating members to form a unitary structure, projecting arms being formed integrally with or secured to at least one of the metal members, for engaging with the tube envelope and locating the gun therein. The three ceramic cylinders 1, 2 and 3 are secured together by brazing to the interposed course limiter electrode 11 and cathode shield electrode 12, the whole assembly being located within the envelope of a television pick-up tube by two sets of three legs 8 and 15 projecting from metal members 5 and 14 brazed to the upper and lower ends of the assembly. Each of the ceramic cylinders is formed with three symmetrically disposed internal ribs 4 for centrally locating the electrodes and locating members by engagement with axially projecting portions thereof. The gun is assembled by aligning members 5, 1, 11, 2, 12, 3 and 14 on a jig with interposed shims of copper and applying heat and axial pressure, and thereafter introducing and spot-welding the cathode assembly, the desired spacing of which from the electrode 12 is obtained by the use of a locating wire introduced through a pair of diametrically opposed slots 13, and a fine limiter electrode 10 which is in the form of an apertured strip which is introduced through, and mounted within, a pair of slots 9. The electrodes are of titanium, the locating members 5 and 14 having titanium portions for sealing to the ceramic, and locating legs of molybdenum. When the gun is assembled in the tube, upturned tabs 22 form cathode terminals, and legs 8 contact a conductive envelope coating constituting the anode. The gun may be employed in the television pick-up tube disclosed in the parent application.
