A method of manufacturing an insulated electrical conductor resistant to high temperatures, comprising: extruding around a linear metallic conductor a composition comprising a normally solid ethylene polymer and at least one curing agent therefor; curing said extruded composition whereby said composition is cured and essentially crosslinked; applying an inorganic fibrous material around said cured extruded composition; and impregnating said inorganic fibrous material with an impregnable thermosetting chlorinated polymer therefor, whereby the duration of said conductor for high temperature, as determined by accelerated aging tests to heat, is greater than the duration of a conductor comprising said cured extruded composition without said impregnated fibrous inorganic material.
