A wood shearing machine comprises slideways 1 for the pressure bar and cutter blade unit 3, 4 inclined with respect to the horizontal in such manner that the unit is, at the position on the slideways for effecting extraction of a cut sheet 5 from the unit, at a lower level relative to a flywheel assembly 7 for effecting reciprocation of the unit on the slideways than at positions on the slideways nearer the flywheel assembly.
