Abstract

A pumping installation for a ship carrying bulk liquid cargo comprises a trunk 3 extending from the deck 1 to the lowermost level of the storage tanks 2 and suction pipes 12 from the tanks to the interior of the trunk. Pump 4 at the bottom of the trunk discharges the cargo through main 6 to outlet 7. Vacuum pump 10 draws off air and vapour continuously as they accumulate at the top of the trunk 3, thus avoiding need for any reflux flow arrangements.
