Abstract
An electrolyte for an electrolytic capacitor comprises a solution of picric acid and/or a picrate of an alkali metal dissolved in a solvent containing or consisting of dimethyl formamide or a homologue thereof. Examples disclose solvents also containing ethylene glycol, triethylamine and small amounts of water. The solute may consist additionally of potassium hydrogen phthalate and ammonium pentaborate tetrahydrate. The electrolyte according to the invention may also be used to form electrolytically the dielectric oxide film on the e.g. aluminium anode.
