Abstract

Apparatus for supplying air to an enclosure e.g. a paint spray booth 1, Fig. 1, comprises a frame for supporting continuous air diffusing material such as filtering material 6 stretched between a feed roller 8 mounted at one end of the frame and a take-up roller 10 mounted at the opposite end of the frame, the latter comprising side channel members 2, 3 in which the side edges of the filtering material are supported and end members 4, 5 formed with slots 12, 13 through which the filtering material passes from and to the rollers 8 and 10 respectively, and pneumatic clamping means being provided to maintain the filtering material 6 in sealing engagement with the frame. As described, a plurality of such frames forms the roof of the spray booth. The filtering material 6 may be a heat bonded cellulose acetate fibre material. The side members 2, 3 are formed so that they dip into the booth I and four jockey rollers 20 are provided to ensure that the filtering material 6 follows the shape of the side members 2, 3. Alternatively, the latter may be straight. An open mesh supporting grid 22 is disposed below the filtering material. Two inflatable tubes 25, Fig. 4 (not shown), extend along the side members 2, 3, the tubes being connected to a compressed air line 39. The slots 12, 13 formed in the end members 4, 5 are defined between a shelf 42 and a flange 43, Fig. 7, each slot having a wooden wedge or wedges 44 inserted therein to press the filtering material 6 against the flange 43 to provide a seal. Alternatively, the end seals may be provided by inflatable tubes. Air is supplied to the booth I through a header 45 which extends over the frames forming the roof of the booth the air may be from an air conditioning plant and may have undergone preliminary filtration. An after-filter of nylon may be fixed beneath each frame. In a modification the filtering material may be replaced by air diffusing material, e.g. woven nylon mesh. The apparatus may be disposed in a wall of the enclosure instead of forming the roof thereof.
