Abstract

A spring core assembly for a mattress or upholstered furniture comprises a plurality of helical spring cores 1 with two end coils 2a, 2b lying in parallel planes. Each end coil comprises a single substantially rectilinear portion 5a, 5b and an arcuate portion 7a, 7b, so that the end coil has substantially the shape of a circle with a segment removed. The two portions 5a, 5b of each spring lie in one plane. Such helical springs can be simply and quickly manufactured on an automatic machine and allow spring core assemblies to be constructed with great peripheral hardness and without squeaking noises, when the flattened zones are parallel to an edge of the spring core assembly, and the cores are joined to each other and to a peripheral wire (9, Fig. 2) by helical wires.
