Abstract

The brake comprises a drum (1) fixed to hub (2) of a wheel and having ed around its perimeter a brake block or shoe (4), a capping member (5) which encloses the drum (5) and is capable of angular displacements about the drum (1) and a stationary disc (7) which is fixed to the wheel forks (8) a band (24) is actuable by a cable (20) to engage brake block or shoe (4), a spring-loaded arrangement (14, 15, 16) being provided to limit the force applied by cable (20) and absorb any excess force. As shown, an arm (12) of capping member (5) and arm (13) of disc (7) are respectively attached to ends (25, 26) of band (24) and tensioning of cable (20) moves arm (12) against the action of a return spring (22), mounted between arms (12, 13) to apply the band spring (16) of spring arrangement (14, 15, 16) may have its compression adjusted by nut (15). Stop bush (17) can adjust travel of cable (20).
