Abstract

Main drive for web-fed rotary offset printing machines with tandem arrangement of the printing units, each of which shows two cooperating offset cylinders (5 6), each of which engages, via a spur wheel (14, 15), with the other and with the spur wheel (13, 17) of the corresponding plate cylinder (7, 8), the drive of each printing unit comprising two main spur wheels (10 11) of very high manufacturing accuracy which mesh with each other and with the respective main spur wheels of the neighbouring printing unit, said main spur wheels (10 11) being fastened to the machine side frame via journals and being differently aligned than the spur wheels (13, 17 14, 15) of the plate cylinders and offset cylinders (7, 8 5, 6), wherein for supplying the respective printing unit with the entire drive force a drive spur wheel (9) engaging with one of the two main spur wheels (10, 11) is assigned only to one of the two plate cylinders (7, 8) of each printing unit.
