Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0997475/C2/1> and acid addition salts thereof, wherein "Hal" represents a halogen atom, e.g. Cl, Br or F, and their preparation by diazotizing a 4-halo-3-sulphamoyl aniline, reducing by a method known to be capable of reducing a nitro compound to the corresponding amino compound, e.g. with stannous chloride and hydrochloric acid or with an alkali-metal bisulphite, and if desired, converting to an acid addition salt. 4 - Halo - 3 - sulphamoyl anilines used as starting materials are made by reducing the corresponding 3 - nitro - 6 - halo - benzenesulphonamide. 3 - Nitro - 6 - fluoro and 6 - iodobenzenesulphonamide are made by chlorosulphonating p - fluoro - or p - iodo - nitrobenzene and reacting the product with ammonia. Pharmaceutical preparations having diuretic or saliuretic activity comprises the above compounds of the invention and an inert carrier.
