Abstract

Process for obtaining an aqueous steric emulsion, which is characterized by containing from 5 to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the emulsion, of non-aqueous constituents chosen from the group consisting of (1) non-aqueous constituents containing 50 to 90% by weight, based on the total weight of said non-aqueous constituents, of at least one high-boiling fatty acid ester chosen from the group consisting of esters formed by the reaction of (a) so minus one fatty acid selected from the group consisting of saturated and unsaturated aliphatic mono- and dicarboxylic acids containing from 7 to 18 carbon atoms, with (b) at least chosen from the group consisting of aliphatic and cyclic monohydric alcohols containing from 2 to 19 atoms carbon and 2 to 5 oh radicals, and the condensation products of said alcohols with 2 to 10 gram molecules of ethylene oxide; and from 10 to 50%, based on the total weight of said non-aqueous constituents, of an emulsifying agent chosen from the group consisting of the condensation products of (b) with 30 gram molecules of ethylene oxide, mixed from said products of condensation, the product of the reaction of said condensation products with alkyl-substituted phenols containing from 2 to 12 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical, alkyl-substituted phenols containing from 2 to 12 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical condensed with 9 molecules gram of ethylene oxide and mixtures of said condensation products with 1 to 5%, based on the total weight of said emulsifying agent, of a compound selected from the group consisting of sulfated fatty alcohols containing from 10 to 18 carbon atoms and in the sodium, anonic and organic amines salts thereof; (2) the non-aqueous constituents of (1) containing (c) an alcohol phosphate selected from the group consisting of mono- and dialkyl phosphates containing from 8 to 16 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical and mono- and dialkyl-substituted phenyl phosphates containing to 16 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical, said alcohol phosphate being employed in the proportion of 10 to 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the emulsifying agent, the total weight of said alcohol phosphate and said emulsifying agent being employed in a proportion of 10 to 50%, based on the total weight of non-aqueous constituents; and (3) non-aqueous constituents containing 50 to 90%. Based on the total weight thereof, of at least one fatty acid ester prepared by the reaction of (a) with (b) and 10 to 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the non-aqueous constituents, of an emulsifying agent chosen from the group consisting of the condensation products of 5 to 20 gram molecules of ethylene oxide with an alcohol phosphate of (c).
