Abstract
Un aparato de determinación de la composición objetivo el cual incluye: un elemento de emisión de rayos X (1) configurado para transmitir simultáneamente fotones de rayos X con diferentes niveles de energía que abarcan el espectro de rayos X en un objetivo (3); un elemento de detección de rayos X (7) configurado para recibir fotones de rayos X los cuales se han transmitido a través del objetivo y para determinar los niveles de energía de cada uno de dichos rayos X recibidos, dicho elemento de detección de rayos X (7) que se configura para generar al menos una señal de salida indicativa del número de rayos X que se han transmitido a través del objetivo (3) y los niveles de energía determinados para cada uno de dichos rayos X, en donde la señal o señales de salida del elemento de detección de rayos X (7) se agrupan en un período de tiempo preseleccionado para definir la resolución física del aparato de componente objetivo cuando el objetivo (3) se mueve con relación al aparato; y un elemento de procesamiento (11,13) configurado para: recibir dicha señal o señales de salida; aplicar al menos una calibración multivariada preparada para una clase particular de objetivos para relacionar los datos al número de rayos X que se han transmitido a través del objetivo (3) y los niveles de energía determinados para cada uno de dichos rayos X cuando se derivan de la señal o señales de salida, para determinar la presencia de al menos un material componente dentro del objetivo (3), en donde la calibración multivariada correlaciona los datos, sus varianzas y covarianzas contra uno o más de: los niveles de material identificados previamente, la presencia de un material desconocido, o la presencia de un material no deseado; e indicar la presencia de al menos un material componente dentro del objetivo.
