Description
Termosoldadura de plásticos por radiación.
Esta invención se refiere al método y medios para
soldar térmicamente un miembro sobre una costura en otro miembro tal
como cuando se aplica una hoja o banda de plástico como un sello
sobre la costura de unión de materiales plásticos o recubiertos de
plástico.
La invención ha surgido específicamente en
relación con el tubo llamado Instituform (Marca Registrada) usado
en los procesos de propietario o métodos de nuevo revestimiento
"sin excavación" de servicios típicamente subterráneos o de
tuberías de abastecimiento de agua, electricidad, etc. Se instala

de tipo fieltro cubierto que tiene un cordón de costura dentro de
un tubo existente de los indicados, por ejemplo por inversión,
usando una cabeza de agua; y habitualmente antes de ser impregnado
con material plástico termoendurecido, tal como el poliéster o la
resina epoxi. La presión de agua dentro de un tubo de este tipo de
tamaño apropiado puede dilatarlo y forzarlo a un ajuste apretado
contra el interior del tubo anfitrión; y el subsiguiente
calentamiento de dicha agua, típicamente según se hace circular
desde una caldera situada por encima del suelo, puede ayudar a
curar la resina para formar un revestimiento sólido duradero o para
un nuevo revestimiento de un tubo anfitrión existente, típicamente
de diámetros desde unos 100 mm o menos hasta unos 3 metros o
más.
El tubo típico Instituform mencionado se hace en
una línea de producción cosiendo entre sí largos bordes de banda de
material de fieltro cubierto láminas plegadas de anchura apropiada
para formar un tubo de "tendido plano" del tamaño deseado. El
recubrimiento sobre el material del fieltro se aplica habitualmente
por el fabricante o proveedor del fieltro antes del envío a la
planta de producción de tubos Instituform, y es típicamente de
material termoplástico, específicamente poliuretano (PU) o
polietileno (PE), con un espesor habitualmente hasta unos 0,5 mm. Es
importante que el tubo Instituform permita un revestimiento
totalmente hermético de un tubo después de su instalación; y
cualquier incidencia de fugas o de goteo de la resina impregnada
durante su instalación son problemáticos, es decir, es preciso
evitarlos. Es por tanto necesario el sellado de las mencionadas
costuras del tubo de tendido plano tal como se suministra a los
emplazamientos en campo para su instalación, y tiene que ser de una
naturaleza buena y fiable. Se conocen o se han propuesto dos métodos
de sellado de costura.
Uno de dichos métodos se basa en un pegado con
disolvente de una cinta sobe el cordón, típicamente una cinta de PU
con anchura de unos 65 mm y un espesor de unos 0,3 mm se pega
usando como disolvente tetrahidrofurano (THF). Aunque el equipo
necesario se incorpora con facilidad a las líneas de producción de
tubo de cordón cosido para tendido plano que es recubierto con PU,
no se dispone de disolventes en la práctica que permitan
posibilidades similares para los fieltros recubiertos de PE.
Además, aun en el tubo recubierto de PU, el uso de THF puede dar
lugar a preocupaciones en cuanto a salud y seguridad.
El otro de los métodos enunciados se basa en la
extrusión de una gota de plástico fundido sobre dichos cordones
soldados, y a continuación hacer rodar sobre la gota extruída
todavía blanda, por encima del cordón para taparlo y sellarlo,
incluyendo su fusión con el cubrimiento. Aunque este método es
aplicable en principio tanto a recubrimientos con PU como con PE,
existen problemas en la práctica. Esta extrusión de gota no se
inicia ni se detiene fácilmente a voluntad debido a las necesidades
de calentamiento y de control con respecto a las características de
fluencia que se deben lograr y mantener, que entran en conflicto
con las normas para las líneas de producción de tubo Instituform de
cordón de costura, en las que la máquina de coser y las operaciones
de guiado del fieltro tienden a estar sujetas a interrupciones
frecuentes, por tanto a paradas. En realidad, aparecería la
necesidad de dos etapas separadas en la producción, con el
resultado inevitable de duplicación de apilados de materiales y
sistemas de alimentación y de requerirse un personal extra. También,
la velocidad de procesamiento de gota está limitada por la tasa de
enfriamiento del material plástico en cuestión, que tiende a ser
particularmente lenta para el PE, lo cual conduce además a la
necesidad de una longitud sustancial de espacio de fuga, etc. antes
de una manipulación posterior y/o al uso de equipo de enfriamiento
que sería caro de instalar. La extrusión por tanto parece una
opción cara en términos de bienes de equipo sofisticados para la
extrusión y posiblemente también para el enfriamiento.
Un objeto de esta invención es proporcionar un
método alternativo y/o medios que pueden mitigar tales problemas, al
menos en la aplicación correspondiente a la fabricación de tubo
Instituform.
De acuerdo con un primer aspecto del método según
esta invención, la soldadura térmica de un miembro sobre una costura
en otro miembro se realiza aplicando una radiación a través de un
miembro a una(s) capa(s) entre un miembro y el otro y
disponiendo inclusiones a través del espesor de las mismas, las
cuales inclusiones responden a dicha radiación elevando la
temperatura de dicha(s) capa(s) a través del espesor
de las mismas y promueven uniones en las interfaces con las
superficies de dichos miembros; y aplicando presión que ayuda a la
unión a través del espesor de dicha(s) capa(s) que se
han hecho deformables mediante el calor absorbido por dichas
inclusiones, siendo aplicada dicha presión por medios que hacen
libremente un contacto de rodamiento o deslizamiento con dicho
miembro.
Preferiblemente, el calor absorbido por dichas
inclusiones hace dicha(s) capa(s)
deformable(s), y la presión aplicada transversalmente sobre
dicha(s) capa(s) para juntar dichos miembros
deformará dicha(s) capa(s) para acomodarse a las
irregularidades de la interfaz; y donde dicho miembro tiene una
conductividad térmica baja y suficiente espesor para estar
suficientemente frío en la otra superficie del mismo para permitir
el libre contacto por rodadura o deslizamiento con la misma, se
aplica dicha presión por medios que logran dicho contacto por
rodadura o deslizamiento.
Se puede aplicar dicha radiación sólo a través de
un miembro, y es preferiblemente al menos en forma parcial
(típicamente menos de un 50%), reflejada con devolución a
dicha(s) capa(s) por el otro de dichos miembros; se
puede aplicar dicha radiación a uno de dichos miembro a través de
unos medios o por dichos medios que hacen contacto de rodadura o
deslizante con el mismo; y dicha reflexión por dicho otro miembro
puede tener lugar después de la transmisión desde dicha capa a
través de la interfaz a un recubrimiento transmisor de la radiación
sobre dicho otro miembro.
La primera y la segunda partes componentes
superpuestas de dicha(s) capa(s) pueden tener
inclusiones que son, según se encuentran secuencialmente por dicha
radiación, capaces de responder, tal como se dijo anteriormente, en
menor y mayor medida, respectivamente.
Dicha radiación puede ser infrarroja
(preferiblemente de un rango casi visible) a la cual uno de dichos
miembros es sustancialmente transparente, siendo dicha(s)
capa(s) ambas transmisoras y absorbentes en dichas
inclusiones.
Dicha(s) capa(s) y uno de dichos
miembros pueden constituir una banda de sellado a aplicar al otro de
dichos miembros, habitualmente sobre un cordón de costura del otro
de dichos miembros; y dicha banda de sellado constituye un segundo
aspecto de la invención que incluye realizaciones como capas de
material termoplástico, el cual pueden ser sustancialmente el mismo
o similar para todas de dichas capas, excepto en cuanto a dichas
inclusiones en dicha(s) capa(s) interiores o
inferiores, o al menos materiales compatibles para ser soldados
entre sí. Dicha capa exterior, como uno de dichos miembros, es
preferiblemente en forma sustancial transmisora por entero respecto
a dicha radiación infrarroja.
Un aparato de soldadura adecuado puede comprender
medios que producen un haz, incluyendo una fuente de radiación
infrarroja y unos medios que definen una abertura, ambos dentro de
un tubo hueco rotatorio sustancialmente transparente a dicha
radiación para hacer un contacto por rodadura con unos medios a los
que se aplica el haz producido de dicha radiación infrarroja o
través de los cuales ésta se aplica.
De acuerdo con un tercer aspecto de esta
invención, se proporciona un aparato para soldar térmicamente un
miembro sobre una costura en otro miembro usando capa(s)
calentada(s) interpuesta(s) entre un y otro miembros y
que tienen inclusiones a través de su espesor y que responden a la
radiación para elevar la temperatura de dicha(s)
capa(s) a través de su espesor, promoviendo uniones por
soldadura en las interfaces con las soldaduras de dichos miembros,
comprendiendo el aparato medios para interponer dicha(s)
capa(s) entre dichos miembros, medios para aplicar dicha
radiación a dichos miembros con dicha(s) capa(s)
interpuesta(s), medios para hacer contacto por rodadura o
por deslizamiento con uno de dichos miembros, aplicando una presión
que ayuda a la unión dirigida a través del espesor de
dicha(s) capa(s), y medios para mover dichos miembros
irradiados de esta manera desde dichos medios de aplicación.
Dos especificaciones de patentes anteriores hacen
usos particulares diferentes de material específicamente absorbente
de rayos infrarrojos entre otros elementos termoplásticos
transparentes/transmisores de los rayos infrarrojos y para
juntarlos, en concreto extremos de tuberías en relación de solape
con ajuste mutuo (WO-A- 95/21737) y porciones de
banda alargadas superpuestas (EP-A-0
337 776). La primera prefiere la reducción preparatoria por fuerza
de un extremo de tubo para ajustar por dentro del otro y
recuperación térmica en un calentamiento interior por infrarrojos
con limitación de anillo externo. La última requiere mantener las
porciones de banda tensadas sobre una superficie arqueada cóncava y
un acceso sin obstrucciones para una fuente de infrarrojos a la
posición de un parche absorbente de rayos infrarrojos interpuesto.
No se prevé en ninguna la aplicación esencial de una presión que
ayude a la adhesión por medios de contacto de rodadura o con
deslizamiento.
En algunas realizaciones de los aspectos de
método y de aparato de esta invención, se proporciona una
verificación sobre la(s) soldadura(s) hecha(s)
por debajo de una capa transmisora de la radiación, implicando la
verificación el uso de una cámara de imagen térmica para detectar a
través de dicha capa transmisora radiación procedente de dicha capa
calentada que es diferente de la radiación que origina el
calentamiento con fines de soldadura.
Generalmente, en realizaciones de sistema y
aparato según esta invención, la producción de miembros unidos por
soldadura puede implicar una(s) capa(s)
calentada(s) interpuestas entre dos miembros mencionados,
teniendo la(s) capa(s) inclusiones a través del
espesor y que responden a la radiación para elevar la temperatura de
dicha(s) capa(s) a través del espesor, promoviendo
uniones de soldadura en interfaces con superficies de dichos
miembros, proporcionando la producción la interposición de
dicha(s) capa(s) entre dichos miembros, la aplicación
de dicha radiación a dichos miembros con dicha(s)
capa(s) interpuesta(s), y el desplazamiento de dichos
miembros así irradiados de dichos medios para la aplicación.
Dichos medios para interposición pueden servir
para suministrar uno de dichos miembros junto con dicha(s)
capa(s); y puede proporcionarse todavía más en cuanto a la
verificación de la soldadura de dichos miembros irradiados, tal como
se indicó anteriormente, usando una cámara de imagen térmica.
A continuación se ilustrará una realización
específica, a título de ejemplo de esta invención y se describirá
haciendo referencia a los dibujos anexos en forma de diagrama, en
los cuales:
la Figura 1 es un diagrama descriptivo que
muestra una línea de fabricación para tubo de tendido plano
Instituform, que incluye las etapas de conformación, costura,
sellado e inspección;
las Figuras 2A y 2B son diagramas inservibles de
cintas de soldadura que tienen una y dos capas de soldadura
térmica, respectivamente, cada uno de los cuales con indicaciones de
acompañamiento de la absorción/emisión de calor;
las Figuras 3A y 3B son cortes transversales
descriptivos y vistas laterales de una cabeza de soldadura para el
sellado de costuras;
las Figuras 4A y 4B son cortes transversales
descriptivos y vistas en corte axial de otra cabeza de soldadura
para el sellado de costuras; y
la Figura 5 es un diagrama axial descriptivo que
muestra una cámara de inspección de soldadura de imagen
térmica.
En la Figura 1, la hoja 10 de fieltro recubierto
de plástico procedente de la bobina de abastecimiento 11 se muestra
pasando a través de la estación de guiado y plegado 12 que sirve
para juntar sus bordes largos a fin de coserlos en un formato 10T
de tubo de tendido plano usando una máquina de coser 13 mostrada en
asociación preferida con medios de inspección/verificación de la
costura indicados como incluyendo una cámara óptica 14. Se indica
una cabeza 15 de soldadura para cubrir y sellar la costura conforme
se cose y verifica en 13, 14 en asociación con una cámara de imagen
térmica 16 para inspección y verificación del sello de cubrimiento
de la costura producida en la cabeza 15, como se describirá más
adelante. La cabeza 15 de soldadura se muestra en funcionamiento
para dos cintas 17 y 18 alimentadas desde las bobinas de
abastecimiento 17R y 18R que serán superior (o exterior) e inferior
(o interior), respectivamente, entre la cabeza 15 de soldadura y la
costura verificada del tubo de tendido plano 10T, prensado
específicamente sobre un recubrimiento 20 de plástico exterior sobre
la capa de fieltro interior 19, véase la flecha 15P para una
aplicación y transferencia ventajosa de presión, sea mediante pesos
o sea por medios de fluido presurizado a través de la propia cabeza
15 de soldadura.
La Figura 1 también muestra la caja de control 21
para el control de funcionamiento y recogida de datos
eléctrico/electrónico, típicamente informatizado y las cámaras
óptica y térmica 14, 16 y el tacómetro 22; y el funcionamiento de la
máquina de coser 13, la cabeza de soldadura 15, y los rodillos de
alimentación 23 para el material de filtro recubierto 10 y el tubo
10T conforme es plegado, cosido y sellado. Si se desea, por
supuesto, podría haber un accionamiento controlado adicional o
alternativo de cualquiera de las bobinas 11, 17R, 18R.
En el funcionamiento tal como se muestra, el
material de fieltro recubierto 10 va desde la derecha a la
izquierda en la Figura 1, conforme tiran de él los rodillos 23 a
una velocidad de producción adecuada, de unos 12 metros/minuto. La
banda plana 10 extraída de la bobina 11, plegada en guías etc. 12,
y cosida en los bordes por la máquina de coser 13 pasa para la
detección de cualesquiera fallos de sutura por la cámara 14. Se
conocen cámaras de tipo de observación linear con control por
ordenador/en interfaz con ordenador para inspección de sutura, así
como software con algoritmos para detectar fallos, por ejemplo
suturas caídas, hilos rotos o cortados, desigualdades, etc. La
detección de tales fallos normalmente lleva automáticamente a la
parada de la fabricación de tubo Instituform, y a la rectificación
apropiada, con lo cual se evita el encapsulado de sellado de una
sutura deficiente. La cabeza de soldadura 15 debería funcionar por
tanto para cubrir y sellar sólo en relación al tubo 10T que está
correctamente cosido.
Las cabezas (15) de soldadura preferidas usan la
radiación infrarroja y se mostrarán y describirán adicionalmente con
un rodillo exterior para apretar las dos cintas 17 y 18 contra el
material de fieltro recubierto, aunque es factible la disposición
alternativa de placas de presión. Las cintas 17, 18 pueden ser, lo
son normalmente, de anchuras idénticas, suficientemente grandes
para cubrir la sutura del cordón y solapan suficientemente a los
lados sobre el fieltro recubierto para dar lugar a la resistencia
mecánica de adhesión deseada o requerida por la soldadura como aquí
se indica. Se muestra extraídas las bobinas 17R, 18R simplemente
por acción de los rodillos de alimentación 23.
La soldadura preferida se basa efectivamente en
la capa exterior, representada por la cinta 17, que es
sustancialmente transparente a la radiación usada para fines de
soldadura, para absorber así poco calor o ninguno, ciertamente no en
una cuantía adversamente significativa; y una capa interior o
inferior, representada por la cinta 18, entre la capa exterior
(cinta 17) y el recubrimiento exterior 20 del tubo 10T de material
de fieltro que tiene tal absorbencia de calor para dicha radiación
que su temperatura se elevará para lograr una soldadura entre la
capa exterior aplicada (cinta 17) y el recubrimiento exterior 20
del fieltro/tubo 10/10T. Son importantes las inclusiones que
permitan una transmisión parcial para asegurar tal absorbencia de
calor y para lograr un estado adecuadamente ablandado o
parcialmente fundido, en forma preferible fundido por completo
sustancialmente, para una soldadura práctica, ventajosa, del mismo.
La conductividad térmica intrínseca de los materiales termoplásticos
contemplados es muy baja, y los espesores preferidos de la capa
interior o inferior 18 (con sus inclusiones absorbentes
predeterminadas) y la capa exterior 17 (al menos normalmente libre
de tales inclusiones comparativamente) se relacionan con tal
facilidad que incluso una fusión superficial de la última (17) en
la interfaz de contacto con la primera (18) fundida y bajo presión
aplicada se extenderá poco en su espesor, y no dará lugar a una
elevación de temperatura considerable en su superficie exterior,
convenientemente insuficiente para causar problemas significativos.
En realidad, la capa interior o inferior 18 mucho más delgada que
la capa exterior 17, y una radiación de intensidad suficiente para
producir un ablandamiento de soldadura de esta capa interior o
inferior 18 a las velocidades de línea de producción contempladas
(del orden de 12 metros/minuto), la difusión de calor hacia fuera
es tan pequeña y lenta que son prácticas temperaturas de superficie
más exterior bien por debajo de los 100ºC, quizá típicamente no más
de unos 50ºC y no persisten significativamente a lo largo de la
línea de producción, probablemente menos de un metro, al menos para
los materiales plásticos usados en la práctica, tales como el
polietileno de baja densidad para ambas capas (17, 18), y para el
cual las temperaturas de fusión de la capa interior pueden ser de
unos 150ºC a 200ºC. Obviamente, consideraciones no diferentes son
aplicables al recubrimiento exterior 20 de plástico al cual es
necesario efectuar la soldadura, y el cual será también
ordinariamente transparente, incluyendo ópticamente transparente
para la finalidad importante de verificar visualmente el progreso y
la extensión de la impregnación, subsiguientemente del curado, con
resina termoendurecida durante la instalación en un tubo
anfitrión.
Lograr el estado fundido de la capa o capas
interior(es) 18, o al menos un reblandecimiento suficiente
para la deformación bajo la aplicación preferida de presión en el
curso de la soldadura es ventajoso en gran medida, incluso para
capas delgadas de este tipo, en términos de su acomodación
íntimamente a las irregularidades de la superficie tales como
hoyuelos que se trasladen a través del recubrimiento procedentes
del filtro subyacente o de la costura. Espesores desde unos 0,2 a
unos 0,5 milímetros en la capa inferior o interior pueden promover
la sutura.
También es ventajoso evitar la alta pigmentación
de la capa inferior o interior (18), especialmente en los casos en
los que, como se prefiere, sigue siendo posible observar
visualmente el progreso y la extensión de la impregnación,
subsiguiente curado de la resina termoendurecida, etc. in
situ. Es importante poder ver y a continuación rectificar las
zonas de pobre penetración y/o curado, obviamente incluyendo en la
costura, en caso contrario el fallo en servicio puede tener graves
consecuencias y ser caro de reparar. Más aún, la alta pigmentación
de tal capa 18 que no permite la transmisión arriba indicada de
radiación calentadora efectivamente no permitiría el logro del
reblandecimiento/la fusión deseada en todo el espesor a favor de una
fusión no útil, próxima a la superficie, sólo en la interfaz.
Es particularmente ventajoso poder utilizar tales
inclusiones fácilmente disponibles como el negro de humo para
conseguir totalmente las preferencias anteriores para un suficiente
calentamiento incluyendo una fusión/un reblandecimiento
sustancialmente en todo el espesor y para que la pigmentación
resultante sea suficientemente ligera para permitir la antes
mencionada observación posterior de la impregnación etc. de la
resina termoendurecida, es decir, sin necesidad de buscar
inclusiones con transparencia/absorbencia diferencial para los rayos
infrarrojos y para la luz visible.
Las inclusiones de negro de humo en la práctica
para los materiales de la capa interior o inferior probablemente
varían con la aplicación deseada de realizaciones de esta
invención. Sin embargo, para cubrir y sellar costuras de tubo
Instituform usando capas de este tipo de unos 0,25 a 0,6 milímetros
de espesor de polietileno de baja densidad, ha demostrado ser
práctico usar negro de humo (Vulcan P) de unos 2 nanometros de
tamaño de partículas en un contenido de aproximadamente 0,11% a
0,047% (respectivamente) en peso. Se da este ejemplo, por supuesto,
sin carácter limitativo. Factores a tener en cuenta para cualquier
aplicación específica de esta invención pueden incluir la
extrapolación de tal realización específica de una relación de
aproximadamente 2:1 para la absorción/transmisión de los infrarrojos
aplicados (de forma típica, principalmente en el espectro próximo
al infrarrojo). Una transmisión de aproximadamente 30% ha probado
ser particularmente efectiva al menos en los casos en los que
existe inherentemente aproximadamente un 75% de reflexividad de la
radiación de calentamiento por el material 19 de fieltro blanco
normal bajo un recubrimiento de polietileno claro 20. Tal
reflectividad puede ayudar significativamente en relación al logro
de una fusión/un reblandecimiento suficientemente uniforme de la
capa interior o exterior 18 a través de su espesor en el contexto de
reducir inevitablemente en forma exponencial la intensidad de
radiación, por tanto la tasa de absorción (por las inclusiones),
con la profundidad a través del espesor desde la superficie de
incidencia. Puede resultar útil, por otra parte, para ver la acción
deseada de la misma que implica la naturaleza progresiva (con el
espesor) de la absorción de energía a partir de la radiación
calentadora, en términos de que cualquier sección de profundidad de
la capa de fusión/reblandecimiento que tiene conceptualmente su
propia fuente local de calor sin que dependa de la conducción
térmica.
Un contenido de inclusiones que no sea constante
a través del espesor, idealmente progresivo, sería útil, incluyendo
los casos en los que existe menos o sustancialmente ninguna
reflectividad, como por encima del fieltro 19 (o su recubrimiento
20); y se contempla el uso de dos o más capas con un contenido de
inclusiones absorbentes progresivamente diferente, hasta inclusiones
como tales, al menos en lo referente a parámetros tales como
tamaño, etc. Por supuesto, en este contexto puede ayudar a
proporcionar reflectividad la especificación de inclusiones
reflectoras, tales como el sulfato de bario o el dióxido de titanio,
en el recubrimiento 20 y/o disponer las mismas en capas más bajas o
sobre las mismas o en la superficie del material de soldadura
18.
Las Figuras 2A y 2B muestran capas interiores o
inferiores sencillas o dobles 18 y 18A, B entre la capa exterior
clara 17 aplicada y el recubrimiento 20 sobre el material de núcleo
de fieltro 19; junto con indicaciones características idealizadas en
25A, B de absorción por unidad de profundidad para la radiación
calentadora infrarroja aplicada a la capa exterior clara 17 y a
través de la misma. Tal tasa de absorción, que es mínima en las
capas exteriores claras 17 y 18, y da como resultado sólo un
calentamiento en la proximidad de la superficie de lo que podría
ser fieltro 19 altamente pigmentado, se reduce progresivamente,
generalmente de forma exponencial, al pasar a través de la capa
única 18, o a través de cada una de las capas 18A y 18B que tienen
inclusiones determinantes de la absorción de infrarrojos
diferenciales (menor y mayor respectivamente). Una ventaja deseable
de que algo de la radiación calentadora pase a través de la capa 18
o de las capas 18A, B y sea devuelta por reflexión a tal(es)
capa(s) está implícita en las representaciones 23A, B pero
podría ser inferior por el diseño de capas absorbentes
diferencialmente plurales y de reflectividad más baja proporcionada
por el material de fieltro 19 o para contribuir de otro modo a un
calentamiento más uniforme de las capas 18 ó 18A, B. Sin embargo,
un uso adicional o incluso alternativo, o un uso parcial de tal
radiación pasante inicialmente no absorbida puede mediante
inclusiones dentro del recubrimiento 20 o superpuestas al mismo
servir para actuar proporcionando cierta medida del calentamiento
adicional al menos en la interfaz con la(s) capa(s)
18. Las indicaciones 25A, B, se aplicarán, por supuesto, a la
radiación reflejada, aunque sea invertida (girada dando la vuelta
hacia abajo) para la(s) capa(s) 18 y 18A, B.
El objetivo general es, por supuesto maximizar el
calentamiento de la(s) capa(s) 18 de modo tan uniforme
como sea posible a través de su espesor, siendo el criterio final
el logro de una soldadura de unión satisfactoria. La aplicación
sobre una longitud corta, convenientemente pero de forma no
limitativa, de unos 50 milímetros, de una radiación intensa
calentadora de infrarrojos produce fácilmente un estado deformable
blandamente hasta la fusión a través de todas la(s)
capa(s) 18, es decir, temperaturas suficientemente altas
para una energía de entrada bastante baja; y la presión ejercida,
por ejemplo mediante pesos o por medio de fluido a presión actuando
sobre la cabeza 15 de soldadura, es eficaz para proporcionar un

Otras opciones útiles incluyen la de promover
deliberadamente la dispersión y captura de la radiación calentadora
al menos en la capa 18, sea por medio de inclusiones que
contribuyen al calentamiento o sea por otras inclusiones; y/o
promover la reflexión repetida por el retorno reflectante superior
o exterior que es fácilmente permitido en la cabeza de soldadura 15
o por la misma o incluso por un recubrimiento ligero adecuado de la
capa exterior 17; y/o la aplicación de esta invención en los casos
en los que es posible la irradiación desde ambos lados de la
soldadura deseada, típicamente a miembros/hojas adecuadamente
transmisores a unir o a través de los mismos. En forma factible,
factores viables/ajustables de relevancia fomentan en gran medida el
desarrollo y uso de modelos de ordenador para ayudar en la
selección de variables para aplicaciones particulares de la
invención, incluyendo muchas distintas del sellado de costuras de
tubo Instituform.
Volviendo a las figuras 3A y 3B, una cabeza de
soldadura adecuada comprende un tubo de rodillo 31 transparente
exterior que puede girar libremente en los cojinetes 32 y que
circunscribe a un miembro tubular ranurado 33, internamente
reflectante, generalmente de sección en C, que permite la unión de
una superficie interior reflectante a una cavidad 34, que se
muestra alojando un conjunto anular de lámparas de calentamiento 35.
La cavidad reflectante que forma el miembro 33 se muestra abierta
hacia abajo en 36 salvo en cuanto a la provisión del filtro 37 a fin
de bloquear la radiación no deseada pero dejar pasar al menos la
radiación de la(s) longitud(es) de onda necesarias
para calentar y soldar a través de la capa 18. Al menos para las
aplicaciones que usan inclusiones de negro de humo, tal como se
describió anteriormente, la radiación de interés está en el
intervalo de unos 0,5 a unos 2 micrometros, y será direccional
saliendo de la abertura y del filtro 36 y 37, que pueden tener una
dimensión en la dirección de producción de unos 50 milímetros. Tal
radiación a ser absorbida en la capa 18, incluso hasta la fusión de
la misma, no dará lugar a que la superficie exterior de la capa 17
se caliente hasta que se pegue al tubo de rodillo 31 sin la capa,
sino que cualquier recogida de material extraño que afecte a la
transparencia puede ser supervisada adecuadamente por los medios
ópticos alargados 38. Las lámparas 35 pueden ser de cualquier tipo
adecuado, por ejemplo, incandescentes, o de descarga de gas o de
flash pulsatorio, y normalmente se proporcionará enfriamiento por
ventilador, véase 39. Se podría accionar el tubo de rodillo
transparente 31 que puede típicamente ser de sílice fundida o de
arena de cuarzo, y el filtro 36 puede ser de múltiples capas,
convenientemente del mismo material plástico que las capas 17, 18,
para eliminar las bandas de absorción fundamental inherentes a los
polímeros orgánicos, reduciendo de esta manera el riesgo de los
efectos de calentamiento de la superficie que podrían conducir a
que se pegue al rodillo 31 y/o de lugar a componentes de imagen de
fondo no deseados a través de la cámara térmica 16.
Las Figuras 4A y 4B muestran una cabeza de
soldadura alternativa que presenta un bloque reflector variante 43
que aloja a las lámparas 45 en entrantes 44 reflectantes
individuales (preferentemente dirigiendo componentes de haz) en un
conjunto arqueado, y atornillado entre las placas laterales 44A, B
que también portan los cojinetes 42 para el tubo de rodillo 41.
Puede ser ventajoso proporcionar una cabeza de
soldadura que puede ser generalmente similar a las de las Figuras 3
y 4, pero no se encuentra montada en una máquina, y puede ser
operada manualmente, por ejemplo para efectuar reparaciones de
defectos localizados en la soldadura.
La cámara de imagen térmica 16, se sitúa en un
punto conveniente después de la cabeza 15 de soldadura pero antes
del punto en el que se alcanza el equilibrio térmico, siendo su
finalidad detectar fallos de la soldadura y supervisar la
consistencia en línea. Un fallo de soldadura podría surgir como
resultado de cualquier contaminación, por ejemplo, materias
extrañas, fallos de la lámpara, etc. Los gradientes de temperatura
se supervisan a través de la anchura de la soldadura sobre la
superficie de 17, por tanto de hecho el progreso del impulso de
calor generado en la capa 18 en disipar hacia fuera, al exterior de
la capa 17. La información de esta imagen puede localizar puntos en
los que ha fallado el pleno contacto de la soldadura, por ejemplo un
impulso de temperatura más elevada que la normal/media en la
superficie que es debido a un contacto pobre, incluso a la falta de
contacto, con la capa de fieltro recubierto 19, 20 durante la
soldadura, quizá debida a que la masa del recubrimiento sobre el
fieltro está tan fría que ha extraído demasiado calor de
la(s) capa(s) 18; y significando un impulso de
temperatura inferior a la normal/media un pobre contacto térmico,
por tanto probablemente mecánico, entre la(s) capa(s)
calentada(s) 18 y la capa exterior 17. Un ordenador de
control situado en la caja 21 es programado fácilmente para
detectar tales condiciones y para detener la línea de producción a
fin de realizar las reparaciones.
La Figura 5 muestra una cámara de imagen térmica
16 práctica, típicamente del género de observación de línea, que da
una imagen continua X,Y, por ejemplo de 0,5 mm de resolución X e Y,
de la temperatura a través y a lo largo de la costura sellada con
sutura 51 a través del fieltro recubierto 19, 20 bajo las capas 17,
18. La cámara 16 tiene una lente de germanio 52 que se enfoca a los
rayos de la radiación indicada a través de un filtro 53 sobre un
conjunto de fotoconductor 54 lineal enfriado, que se muestra
montado en un sumidero de calor 55 con conexiones 56A, B a un cuadro
de circuito impreso 57 que incorpora electrónica de digitalización y
desde allí al elemento de conexión 58 para las señales de entrada o
salida de un ordenador en la caja 21 que sirve para procesar
señales a fin de identificar zonas calientes y zonas frías, también
zonas negras y zonas claras en la cinta de soldar, etc.
La cámara de imagen térmica 16 puede ser, y
preferiblemente es, operativa en una región de radiación diferente
de la cabeza 15 de soldadura, específicamente la región infrarroja
media, de longitud de onda de unos 3 micrometros a unos 8
micrometros (en comparación con el infrarrojo próximo al espectro
visual de unos 0,5 a 2 micrometros de la cabeza 15 de soldadura).
La radiación a longitudes de onda diferentes de este tipo procede
de la acción de calentamiento en la(s) capa(s) 18, y
las tecnologías adecuadas de detección incluyen el selenuro de
plomo, el siliciuro de platino, las termopilas. La cámara 16 de
imagen térmica necesita supervisar más de cerca la temperatura
media de la(s) capa(s) fundida(s) 18 que
simplemente la temperatura superficial de la capa exterior 17 (como
sería inevitablemente vista por una cámara de imagen térmica no
selectiva normal, por ejemplo de las que usan detección más barata
por dióxido de silicio) o de la interfaz entre la capa transparente
exterior 17 y la capa fundida 18 de soldadura (como ocurriría si la
capa fundida 18 estuviera más fuertemente pigmentada de lo aquí
indicado).
Por consiguiente, el filtro 53 sirve para
rechazar la radiación casi infrarroja que emana en grandes
cantidades de la fuente de calor de soldadura. Por supuesto, se
agradecería que la capa exterior 17 que se requiere/prefiere que sea
transparente a los infrarrojos próximos (de la cabeza 15 de
soldadura) y ópticamente (para la verificación de la impregnación
de termoendurecimiento) debe ser también transparente a los
infrarrojos medios de interés para la cámara de imagen térmica 16 y
para dejar pasar los cuales se sintoniza preferiblemente con
precisión el filtro 53. También la capa de soldadura/fusión 18 es
semiemisiva (pigmentada ligeramente en forma suficiente) para
permitir que pasen los "rayos de calor" IR Medios emitidos
desde niveles más profundos a través de la capa 17 hasta la cámara
16.
Realmente, en forma preferible la(s)
capa(s) de soldadura 18 será(n) tal(es) que
tenga(n) también una emisividad elevada a la(s)
longitud(es) de onda de los infrarrojos medios a la que es
sensible la cámara de imagen térmica 16. En la práctica, existe una
correspondencia sustancial entre lograr la emisividad deseada y
lograr la absorción deseada para la capa de soldadura 18. La
diferencia representada por la emisividad deseada y que la
absorbencia esté en los infrarrojos medios y en los infrarrojos
próximos, respectivamente, no da lugar necesariamente al uso de
inclusiones diferentes para las dos finalidades. Realmente, la
emisividad es la radiación térmica por un cuerpo caliente, por
tanto la inversa de la absorción con finalidad de calentamiento, y
se puede utilizar un modelo de ordenador único para especificar las
inclusiones, y las partículas concretas antes mencionadas de negro
de humo han servido satisfactoriamente para ambas finalidades en
la(s) capa(s) interior(es)/inferior(es)
18 de soldadura/fusión.
Prácticamente, la cámara de imagen térmica 16 ve
una señal térmica, que para cualquier punto en la imagen, está hecha
de energía procedente de la parte superior de la(s)
capa(s) 18 como la señal más fuerte, pero con las señales
añadidas de los niveles más profundos (que se deben debilitar
progresivamente, pero de acuerdo con el mismo decaimiento
exponencial que es aplicable a la absorción, es decir, según la Ley
de Beer). La emisividad de la(s) capa(s) 18 puede ser
también representada como en 15A, B de las Figuras 2A, B.
El uso de energía radiante visible y de
infrarrojos próximos interactuando con inclusiones parcialmente
absorbentes, y de presión mecánica aplicada simultáneamente, para
soldar una banda de sellado sobre una costura, típicamente como una
lámina de cintas aditivas clara y controlada, sobre un
recubrimiento ya realizado sobre material de fieltro o análogo,
habitualmente con cintas y recubrimientos todos del mismo material
termoplástico sustancialmente, tiene beneficios particulares para el
tubo Instituform de tendido plano, incluyendo estar libre de
limitaciones y de dependencias de la velocidad de proceso. El
proceso de transferencia de calor de radiación es mucho más rápido
que apoyarse en la conducción térmica a través de materiales
plásticos de inherentemente baja conductividad/difusividad térmica
y da gradientes térmicos elevados sin causar quemaduras ni riesgo
de calentamiento insuficiente.
Sin embargo, se contempla una aplicación mucho
más amplia de estas técnicas en los casos en los que se necesita
unir miembros por soldadura usando la absorción de calor en una
capa interpuesta.
Claims (15)
1. Método de soldadura térmica de un miembro (17)
sobre una costura en otro miembro (10), comprendiendo el método
aplicar radiación a través de uno (17) de los miembros a
una(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) entre uno (17) de los
miembros y el otro (10) y tener inclusiones a través del espesor de
los mismos, las cuales inclusiones responden a dicha radiación para
elevar la temperatura de dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B)
a través del espesor de las mismas y promueven uniones en las
interfaces con las superficies de dichos miembros (10, 17); y
aplicar presión (15P) que ayuda a la unión dirigida a través del
espesor de dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) que se hacen
deformables mediante el calor absorbido por dichas inclusiones,
siendo aplicada dicha presión (15P) por medios (31) que hacen
libremente un contacto de rodadura o deslizamiento con uno de dichos
miembros (17).
2. Método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1, en
el que dicha radiación se aplica sólo a través de uno (17) de
dichos miembros, y es al menos parcialmente devuelta por reflexión a
dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) por el otro (10) de
dichos miembros.
3. Método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1 o
con la reivindicación 2, en el que dicha radiación es aplicada a
uno (17) de dichos miembros a través de dichos medios (31) que
hacen contacto por rodadura o deslizamiento con el mismo.
4. Método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 2 y la
reivindicación 3, en el que dicha reflexión por otro (10) de dichos
miembros se produce después de la transmisión desde dicha(s)
capa(s) (18; 18A, B) a través de la interfaz a un
recubrimiento (20) transmisor de la radiación sobre otro (10) de
dichos miembros.
5. Método de acuerdo con cualquiera de las
reivindicaciones precedentes, en el que la primera y la segunda
partes componentes superpuestas de dicha(s) capa(s)
(18A, B) tienen inclusiones que son, según se encuentran
secuencialmente por dicha radiación, capaces de responder, tal como
se dijo anteriormente, en menor y mayor medida, respectivamente.
6. Método de acuerdo con cualquiera de las
reivindicaciones precedentes, en el que dicha radiación es
infrarroja a la cual uno (17) de dichos miembros es transparente,
siendo dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) ambas
transmisoras y absorbentes en dichas inclusiones.
7. Método de acuerdo con cualquiera de las
reivindicaciones precedentes para soldar una banda de sellado (17)
sobre dicha costura del otro (10) de dichos miembros, en el que
dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) y uno (17) de dichos
miembros constituyen dicha banda.
8. Método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 7, en
el que dicha banda de sellado (17, 18) se aplica sobre una costura
cosida del otro (10) de dichos miembros.
9. Banda de sellado para su uso en el método de
acuerdo con la reivindicación 7 ó con la reivindicación 8, que
comprende capa(s) (17) sustancialmente transmisora(s)
en su integridad a dicha radiación infrarroja como uno de dichos
miembros, siendo dicha(s) capa(s) (17) de baja
conductividad térmica y de suficiente espesor para estar bastante
fría en otra superficie de la misma para permitir libremente un
contacto de presurización de rodadura o deslizamiento con la misma,
y otra(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) de material
termoplástico que tiene(n) inclusiones a través de su espesor
para absorber algo de la radiación infrarroja incidente en el
calentamiento de dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) hasta
un estado de soldadura con respecto al otro (10) de dichos
miembros.
10. Método de acuerdo con cualquiera de las
reivindicaciones 1 a 8, que comprende además un paso de verificar
dicha unión usando una cámara de imagen térmica (16) para detectar
a través de dicha capa transmisora (17) la radiación procedente de
dicha(s) capa(s) calentadas (18; 18A, B) que es
diferente de la radiación que causa el calentamiento de las mismas
con fines de soldadura.
11. Aparato de soldadura para su uso en el método
de cualquiera de las reivindicaciones 1 a 8, que comprende medios
que producen un haz (33-37) incluyendo una fuente
de radiación infrarroja (35) y unos medios que definen una abertura
(33, 36), ambos dentro de un tubo hueco rotatorio (31)
sustancialmente transparente a dicha radiación para hacer un
contacto por rodamiento con una presión que ayuda a la unión y
aplicarla a uno (17) de los miembros que se suelda y a través del
cual se aplica el haz producido de dicha radiación infrarroja.
12. Aparato para la soldadura térmica de un
miembro (17) sobre una costura en otro miembro (10) usando
capa(s) calentada(s) (18; 18A, B)
interpuesta(s) entre un miembro y el otro (17, 10) y que
tienen inclusiones a través del espesor y que responden a la
radiación para elevar la temperatura de dicha(s)
capa(s) (18; 18A, B) a través del espesor promoviendo
uniones por soldadura en las interfaces con las soldaduras de
dichos miembros (10, 17), comprendiendo el aparato medios (18R) para
interponer dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B) entre dichos
miembros (10, 17), medios (15) para aplicar dicha radiación a
dichos miembros (17, 10) con dicha(s) capa(s) (18;
18A, B) interpuesta(s), medios (31) para hacer contacto por
rodadura o deslizamiento con uno (17) de dichos miembros al aplicar
la presión (15P) que ayuda a la unión dirigida a través del espesor
de dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B), y medios (23) para
mover dichos miembros (10, 17) irradiados de esta manera desde
dichos medios (15) para aplicación.
13. Aparato de acuerdo con la reivindicación 12 o
la reivindicación 13, en el que dichos medios (18R) para
interposición sirven para suministrar (17R) uno (17) de dichos
miembros junto con dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B).
14. Aparato de acuerdo con la reivindicación 12 o
con la reivindicación 13, que comprende además medios (16) para
verificar la soldadura de dichos miembros (10, 17) irradiados.
15. Aparato de acuerdo con la reivindicación 14,
en el que dichos medios (16) para verificar incluyen una cámara de
imagen térmica (16) que responde a otra radiación que surge del
calentamiento de dicha(s) capa(s) (18; 18A, B)
interpuestas y operativa a través de uno de dichos miembros (17)
que es transmisor tanto de dichas radiaciones de calentamiento como
de otras radiaciones.
