Abstract

The procedure for treatment of effluent originating from the biological processing of a liquid residue involves separation of a solid phase from a liquid phase in a biological reactor to obtain the effluent. The effluent is concentrated by vacuum evaporation to obtain a liquid concentrate which can be used as liquid fertilizer or in the production of compost and, if desired, the water vapor generated is condensed to obtain water for reutilization. The procedure can be used in the treatment e.g. of industrial and animal husbandry residues, such as liquid fecal matter from pigs.
