Abstract

1439911 Hinges R HEINZE 12 July 1973 [1 Aug 1972] 33272/73 Heading E2F A hinge for the door 15 of a cabinet 13 designed to urge the door to a closed position comprises a fitting 12 secured to a wall of the cabinet and a fitting 4 secured to the door by a hollow barbed cup 2 and a barbed dowel 5 both embedded within the door, the two fittings being pivotally connected by a pair of hinge arms 6, 7. The fitting 4 has a rectangular-section cavity 16 to accommodate a slidable locking element 17 which has a hollow rectangular section shank 19 extending into a hook member 18 formed with a cam face 24. A pin 21 secured in fitting 4 passes through a slot 20 in shank 19, a compression spring 22 being trapped between pin 21 and the end face of cavity 16 to urge cam face 24 into contact with a looped end 6a of arm 6 thereby exerting a force on the door tending to close it. Different profiles for cam face 24 are described and it is stated that the cam face may engage a roller instead of looped end 6a.
