Abstract

Mejoras en el proceso Waelz para el tratamiento de polvos de acerías Es una modifición del proceso Waelz, con mejora de la calidad de los productos resultantes, escoria y óxido Waelz, en lo relativo a contenidos mínimos de halógenos (< 0,01%), especialmente fluor. En primer lugar se peletiza la materia prima con carbón o coque molido, pequeñas adiciones de sílice y un producto sulfurante si no lo llevara la materia prima. En el horno de aceite o carbón pulverizado se alcanza una temperatura superior a 1200 °C, con exceso de aire introducido por la parte opuesta a la entrada de pelets, junto a azufre, para que se cree una atmósfera de SO{sub,2} capaz de reaccionar con los fluoruros que llevan los gases, formando HF que se fijará sobre el ZnO recogido. Finalmente, el ZnF{sub,2} y ZnCl{sub,2} fijado sobre las partículas de ZnO se transformarán en sus sales alcalinas solubles por lavado con una solución de carbonato sódico.
