SE MUEVEN EL GUIAONDAS Y LA MASCARA DE FASE UNO RESPECTO AL OTRO DURANTE EL PROCESO DE ESCRITURA PARA VARIAR LAS PROPIEDADES DE LA REJILLA A LO LARGO DE LA LONGITUD DE LA REJILLA. EL MOVIMIENTO RELATIVO EN UNA SOLA DIRECCION PROPORCIONA UN CAMBIO DEL ESPACIADO DE LA REJILLA, Y ASI SE PUEDE USAR PARA FABRICAR REJILLAS DE CHIRRIDO O DE MULTIPLES LONGITUDES DE ONDA.
