UN METODO PARA LA TRANSFORMACION MEDIADA POR PARTICULAS DEL ALGODON PERMITE LA INGENIERIA GENETICA DIRECTA DE LINEAS DE ALGODON SELECTAS SIN LA NECESIDAD DEL CULTIVO DE TEJIDOS O LA PROLIFERACION DE TEJIDO LEÑOSO CICATRIZAL. LA TECNICA IMPLICA EL CORTE DE LOS EJES EMBRIONICOS DE LAS SEMILLAS GERMINANTES Y DE LAS PARTICULAS DE MARCHITAMIENTO QUE LLEVAN GENES EXTRAÑOS A LOS EJES EMBRIONICOS. CUANDO SE LIBERAN LOS EJES TRATADOS DE UN TRATAMIENTO DE CITOQUININA INICIAL, LOS MERISTEMOS RECUPERAN Y GENERAN UN VASTAGO. MEDIANTE EL EMPLEO DE UN GEN MARCADOR, LA POBLACION TRANSFORMANTE DE LOS VASTAGOS SE PUEDE IDENTIFICAR CON RAPIDEZ. DE ESTA FORMA, SE PUEDEN LOGRAR RUTINARIAMENTE TRANSFORMACIONES DIRECTAS Y EXPEDITIVAS DE LINEAS DE ALGODON SELECTAS DE LAS VARIEDADES PIMA, ACALA, SEA ISLAND Y UPLAND.
