EL USO DE ZAPATAS EXTERNAS PERMITE EL USO DE UNA ZAPATA SIMPLE DE MORDISCO DE LONGITUD COMPLETA (3) DENTRO DE LA ZONA DE CARGA, QUE SIMPLIFICA EL CONTROL Y SUMINISTRA UNA DISTRIBUCION DE TEMPERATURA MAS UNIFORME. LAS ZAPATAS EXTERNAS (24, 26, 28, 30) TAMBIEN SUMINISTRAN UN MEJOR CONTROL DE CORONA. LAS ZAPATAS ESTAN PREFERIBLEMENTE DISPUESTAS DENTRO DE UN AREA DE LA PESTAÑA DE CABEZA (17, 18) DEL RODILLO, EN LA UBICACION EN LA QUE LOS COJINETES ESFERICOS ESTARIAN NORMALMENTE PRESENTES EN UN RODILLO CONVENCIONAL.
