Abstract

Process for the treatment and decontamination of acid mine waters Combination of two processes for the specific treatment of aqueous solutions comprising: a) Removal of the iron and acidity in the medium by the biooxidation of Fe(II) and the precipitation of Fe(III) compounds with alkalis and b) Recovery of the metals contained in acid mine waters, essentially Cu and Zn. This process can be applied to acid waters originating from active or inactive mining works, industrial installations which naturally or artificially produce acid effluents or river, stream, lake basins, etc., which become contaminated by sulphuric acid and heavy metals as a result of contact with mineral masses.
