THE INVENTION DESCRIBES A LIQUID LUBRICATING COMPOSITION INCLUDING C30-C1300 HYDROCARBONS; SAID COMPOSITION HAVING A RATIO PROPORTION OF LESS THAN 0.19; AVERAGE MOLECULAR WEIGHT BETWEEN 300 AND 45000; AVERAGE MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF NUMBER BETWEEN 300 AND 18000; DISTRIBUTION OF MOLECULAR WEIGHT BETWEEN 1 AND 5, AND FREEZING POINT BELOW -15 C. THE TRIMER DECENE-1 IS DISCOVERED, WHICH INCLUDES METHYL-9, OCTHYHENEICOSANE-11. LUBRICATING COMPOSITIONS ARE PRODUCED BY CONTACTING SUCH OLEFINE ALPHA WITH A GROUP VIB CATALYST (FOR EXAMPLE, CHROME), REDUCED, SOLID, UNDER OLIGOMERIZATION CONDITIONS AT A TEMPERATURE OF 90 TO 250 C, TO PRODUCE LIQUID HYDROCAN. THE HYDROCARBON PRODUCT OF THE HYDROGENATED LUBRICANT RANGE, HAS A VISCOSITY INDEX OF OVER 130 TO 280 AND A VISCOSITY GREATER THAN 750 MM2 / S (CS). THE PROCESS IS PARTICULARLY USEFUL WHERE THE OLEFINE ALPHA INITIATOR IS ESSENTIALLY CONSISTING OF OLEPHINE HYDROCARBONS THAT HAVE 8 TO 14 CARBONS OR MIXTURES OF THEM; WHERE THE PROCESS CONDITIONS INCLUDE THE REACTION TEMPERATURE OF ABOVE 100 TO 180 C; AND WHERE THE SUPPORT CATALYST INCLUDES PORTICAL INERT SILICA.
