LA FUENTE COMPRENDE UNA CAMARA CON AL MENOS UN PAR DE ELECTRODOS DENTRO DE ELLA, UNA ENTRADA PARA UNA MUESTRA GASEOSA A SER ANALIZADA QUE OPERA A PRESION SUBATMOSFERICA. LA CAMARA DE IONIZACION ESTA MANTENIDA A UNA PRESION POR DEBAJO DE LA ATMOSFERICA, Y UNA DIFERENCIA DE VOLTAJE ES APLICADA A TRAVES DE LOS ELECTRODOS PARA INDICAR UNA DESCARGA INCANDESCENTE ENTRE LOS ELECTRODOS, TAL QUE LAS MOLECULAS QUE PASEN A TRAVES DE LA ENTRADA SON IONIZADAS POR LA DESCARGA INCASDENCENTE Y DIRIGIDA DENTRO DEL ANALIZADOR. LA FUENTE DE IONIZACION ACEPTA LA MUESTRA Y CONDICIONES DE PRESION ATMOSFERICA Y LO PROCESA DIRECTAMENTE DENTRO DEL INSTRUMENTO DE GRAN VACIO, LLENANDO EL VACIO DE PRESION Y QUITANDO LOS GASES ATMOSFERICOS NO DESEADOS.
