Abstract

Bottles (7) are transferred from a storage container (6), in which they face in opposing direction, to a treatment container (8,9) in which they all face in the same direction. At least two treatment containers are used with each storage container. A number of bottles of similar orientation are taken from the storage container and transferred to a treatment container in which this orientation is maintained. This procedure is then repeated for bottles having the opposite orientation. During the transfer the bottles have their necks inclined downwards at up to 45 degrees. An intermediate table (11,12) may be used on which the sets of bottles taken from the storage container are placed and from which the required number of bottles for the treatment container can then be selected. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in wine mfr. by the champagne method for loading bottles into the treatment containers in which they undergo 'remuage' - i.e. collection of the deposited yeast in the necks of the bottles. The yeast depositing process is not disturbed during the loading procedure, and a suitable speed of loading is achieved, in spite of the mechanical impact necessarily involved in an automatic handling system.
