Abstract
Process for the heat treatment of metal articles under a protective atmosphere in an oven operating noncontinuously, of the kind in which, in an initial stage of temperature rise an injection of a flow rate of purging gas with a substantial nitrogen content is ensured, while the cooling stage is performed under an atmosphere with a predominant content of gas with better thermal conductivity than nitrogen, characterised in that a substitution of the nitrogen-based atmosphere by a helium-based atmosphere is caused and this is done as soon as the temperature increase has been substantially accomplished. The gas with a substantial helium content is a mixture of helium and hydrogen with a content of less than 10 %. Application to conventional bell ovens employing nitrogen, on condition of a simple improvement to the leakproofing seals.
