Abstract
The aim of the invention is to provide an internal combustion engine, particularly a high-speed diesel engine with direct injection, in which the swirl of the air drawn in can be varied as a function of the operating conditions of the engine. The solution consists essentially in that the inlet spiral (11) which connects the intake opening (7) of a combustion chamber (5) to the intake duct (10) is assigned an additional channel (13) in which a flexible blade (14) is displaceably arranged. One end (20) of the blade (14) projects from the additional channel (13) into a connecting zone (15) between the inlet spiral (11) and the intake duct (10), allowing the cross-section of passage of the intake duct (10) to be throttled. The opposite end (19) of the blade (14) is connected to an actuating element (21) which is actuated by a control unit (22) responding to sensors (23).
