A method of improving the recovery of gold in heap leaching processes comprises using a leaching aid (I) selected from sodium dioctyl-sulphosuccinate, ethoxylated alkylphenols (EAS) and tall oil fatty acids and their salts. More specifically, the EA is a nonylphenol ethoxylate contg. 4EO units on average per molecule. Pref. (I) is used in an amt. of 4-30 ppm..
