Abstract

In prodn. of fish leather by stripping the skin, pre-tanning, tanning and opt. post-treatment by dyeing, greasing, drying and/or dressing, (a) the skin is flocculated and (partly) degreased in a bath with little water, contg. anionic, nonionic or amphoteric surfactants, (b) the skin is treated under movement in a bath contg. a keratolytic enzyme or an alkali (hydrogen) sulphide, slaked lime and water, and opt. freed from sulphide by a precipitant for sulphide and washed, (c) opt. at the same time as (b), the skin is degreased with a nonionic and/or anionic surfactant and/or a solvent and/or an enzyme, (d) the skin is pre-tanned with an aromatic syntan, at below 20 deg. and pH5-8, (e) the skin is put into an acid salt soln. at pH 1.5-4, (f) known tanning, esp. Cr tanning and/or tanning with a syntan, is carried out, and (g) opt., after several h, post-tanning is carried out with Cr or Al salts and/or syntans, followed opt. by dyeing and oiling, and then drying and mechanical processing.
