Abstract
A method for evaluating the PCB content of an oil comprises a chemical destruction of the PCB contained in the oil with formation of chlorine ions which are extracted and titrated for example with aqueous mercuric nitrate to determine the chlorine content of said oil. The PCB content is then determined from this chlorine content of the oil and from the chlorine content of the PCB contained in said oil. Chlorinated paraffins initially present may first be removed by chromatography.
