Abstract
Improvements in the object of the Patent of Invention requested on May 28, 1951 for "Procedure for the beneficiation of by-products deducted from chemical bauxite treatments" according to which if the residues to be benefited are already in a solid or pasty state or in mass amorphous, which occurs, for example, with the so-called "sludge" resulting from the treatment of bars to extract aluminum salts, they are treated directly with sulfuric, dispensing with the primary separation obtainable by hydrolysis and the treatment of the liquids derived from it as described in the patent principal; The separation of products resulting from said attack is practiced in a totally analogous way to as it has been related in the main patent (that is, in general lines: Filtering for separation of the silica, stepped neutralization of the liquid with an alkali, preferably ammonia first in the presence of SO2 with precipitation of the titanic acid that is separated by filtration and then without it with precipitation then of the aluminum and iron hydrates that are treated by soda, the iron remaining solid and the aluminum solubilizing in the form of soda aluminate that finally decomposes to recover the soda and give aluminum hydrate, treatment with lime of the liquid part previously separated, releasing ammonia that is recovered by making it bubble in water, separating the calcium sulfate by precipitation and filtering, and obtaining a solution of magnesium and sodium sulfates) and the procedure is complemented by the treatment of the last liquid obtained q It contains sodium and magnesium sulfates with soda that precipitates the usable magnesium hydrate and leaves the sodium sulfate in solution, which can also possibly benefit from known methods.
