Anodenmaterial, Batterie und Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Anodenmaterials
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Anodenmaterial, eine Batterie mit einer Anode aus einem solchen Anodenmaterial und ein Verfahren zur Herstellung des Anodenmaterials.
Ein Anodenmaterial dient zur Herstellung einer Anode, welche wiederum ein Teil einer Batterie ist. Batterien finden beispielsweise Verwendung in einem Elektrofahrzeug und stellen bei diesem elektrische Energie für einen elektrischen Antriebsstrang bereit. Ein Beispiel für eine Batterie ist eine Lithium-Ionen-Batterie, bei welcher als Anodenmaterial beispielsweise Silizium oder Kohlenstoff verwendet wird.
Eine Batterie weist eine oder mehrere Zellen auf, jede Zelle weist zwei Elektroden auf, nämlich eine Anode und eine Kathode. Die Leistungsfähigkeit der Batterie und jeder einzelnen Zelle hängt besonders auch von den Elektroden und den verwendeten Materialien ab. Beispielsweise ist es möglich, als Anodenmaterial eine Kombination von Siliziumpartikeln und Kohlenstoff zu verwenden. Die Verwendung von Silizium ergibt eine besonders hohe Energiedichte. Die Verwendung von reinem Silizium im Anodenmaterial hat jedoch auch diverse Nachteile. So weist Silizium eine schlechte elektrische Leitfähigkeit auf und ist umgekehrt entsprechend elektrisch isolierend. Weiter erfährt Silizium bei der Lithiierung eine drastische Volumenveränderung und ist anfällig für ein permanentes Einfangen von Lithium (sogenanntes „lithium trapping“) sowie für eine instabile und fortwährende Ausbildung einer Feststoff-Elektrolyt-Zwischenphase (kurz: SEI, für „solid electrolyte interphase“) an der Oberfläche des Siliziums. Reines Silizium ist weiterhin gefährdet durch eine mechanische Zersetzung (z.B. Brüche oder Pulverisierung).
Die WO 2020/260332 A1 beschreibt eine Anode mit Partikeln, welche einen siliziumbasierten Kern aufweisen, welcher von zwei Kohlenstoffbeschichtungen mit unterschiedlicher Dichte umgeben ist.
Die US 2010/0310941 A1 beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Anodenmaterials. Dabei werden zunächst Kohlenstoffnanoröhrchen (kurz CNT, für „carbon nanotubes“) hergestellt und diese dann anschließend mit Silizium beschichtet. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist es eine Aufgabe der Erfindung, ein verbessertes Anodenmaterial anzugeben. Dabei sollen einer oder mehrere der eingangs aufgeführten Nachteile möglichst vermieden oder zumindest reduziert werden. Weiter sollen eine Batterie mit einem entsprechenden Anodenmaterial sowie ein Verfahren zur Herstellung des Anodenmaterials angegeben werden.
Die Aufgabe wird erfindungsgemäß gelöst durch ein Anodenmaterial mit den Merkmalen gemäß Anspruch 1, durch eine Batterie mit den Merkmalen gemäß Anspruch 9 sowie durch ein Verfahren mit den Merkmalen gemäß Anspruch 10. Vorteilhafte Ausgestaltungen, Weiterbildungen und Varianten sind Gegenstand der Unteransprüche. Die Ausführungen im Zusammenhang mit dem Anodenmaterial gelten sinngemäß auch für die Batterie sowie für das Verfahren und umgekehrt.
Das erfindungsgemäße Anodenmaterial ist ausgebildet zur Verwendung in einer Anode einer Batterie. Die Batterie ist vorzugsweise eine Lithium-Ionen-Batterie, nachfolgend wird auch ohne Beschränkung der Allgemeinheit davon ausgegangen, dass die Batterie eine Lithium-Ionen- Batterie ist. Das Anodenmaterial weist eine Anzahl von Partikeln auf. Unter „eine Anzahl von“ wird „ein oder mehrere“ verstanden, typischerweise weist das Anodenmaterial eine Vielzahl von Partikeln auf. Die Anzahl an Partikeln pro Gramm Anodenmaterial hängt insbesondere von der Größe der einzelnen Partikel ab. Ein einzelnes Partikel weist vorzugsweise einen mittleren Durchmesser von 50 nm bis 50 pm auf, besonders bevorzugt sind 1 pm bis 20 pm.
Ein jeweiliges Partikel weist einen Kern auf und eine Hülle, welche den Kern umgibt, insbesondere unmittelbar, d.h. ohne Zwischenraum oder zwischenliegende Schichten. Der Kern selbst ist vorzugsweise massiv, d.h. nicht hohl. Die Hülle enthält Silizium, Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff.
Darunter wird vorzugsweise verstanden, dass die Hülle ausschließlich aus Silizium, Kohlenstoff, Stickstoff und/oder Verbindungen daraus besteht und dass entsprechend andere Stoffe, Materialien und/oder Elemente nicht vorhanden sind. Abseits der genannten Elemente Silizium, Stickstoff und Kohlenstoff weist die Hülle vorzugsweise keine weiteren Elemente auf. Entsprechend wird die Hülle auch als SiCxNy-Schicht bezeichnet, d.h. als Schicht aus Silizium in Kombination mit Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff, wobei x und y die Teilchenanzahlen von Kohlenstoff beziehungsweise Stickstoff relativ zum Silizium angeben. In einer bevorzugten Ausgestaltung ist die Teilchenanzahl x = 0,515 und die Teilchenanzahl y = 0,046. Dies entspricht einer Zusammensetzung von Si:C:N = 64-at%:33-at%:3-at%. Der Kohlenstoffanteil ist demnach regelmäßig deutlich größer (d.h. wenigstens Faktor 5) als der Stickstoffanteil und insgesamt macht Silizium typischerweise den größten Anteil aus. Die genannte Zusammensetzung muss nicht zwingend eingehalten werden und weitere geeignete Teilchenanzahlen ergeben sich insbesondere durch Variation der oben genannten Teilchenanzahlen um einen Faktor 0,5 - 2.
Das Silizium der Hülle dient vorliegend insbesondere als aktives Material, welches beim Laden und Entladen entsprechend Lithiumionen aufnimmt und abgibt (dies wird als Lithiierung und Delithiierung bezeichnet). Das Anodenmaterial ist somit ein siliziumbasiertes Anodenmaterial.
Das beschriebene Anodenmaterial auf Basis von SiCxNy weist eine besonders hohe Energiedichte von insbesondere > 1000 mAh/g auf und ermöglicht ein besonders schnelles Laden und Entladen einer Batterie, welche ein solches Anodenmaterial enthält.
Bevorzugterweise bildet das Silizium in der Hülle (genauer zumindest ein erster Teil des Siliziums in der Hülle) eine Vielzahl von Nanopartikeln. Insbesondere bestehen die Nanopartikel jeweils ausschließlich aus Silizium und werden daher auch als Silizium-Nanopartikel bezeichnet.
Unter „Nanopartikel“ werden insbesondere solche Partikel verstanden, welche räumliche Abmessungen (d.h. Länge, Breite, Höhe oder Durchmesser) von grob etwa 1 nm bis zu mehreren 100 nm aufweisen und jedenfalls < 1 pm. Vorliegend weisen die Nanopartikel bevorzugterweise einen mittleren Durchmesser im Bereich von 0,5 nm bis 5 nm auf, besonders bevorzugt 1 nm bis 2 nm, und sind entsprechend vergleichsweise kleine Nanopartikel. Dabei sind die Abmessungen eines jeweiligen Partikels in den drei Raumrichtungen betrachtet nicht notwendigerweise identisch, sondern können sich voneinander unterscheiden, z.B. um bis zu einer Größenordnung.
Es ist zu betonen, dass die genannten Nanopartikel etwas Anderes sind als die weiter oben beschriebenen Partikel mit Kern und Hülle. Die Nanopartikel sind nämlich ein Teil der Hülle, sodass die Partikel des Anodenmaterials konsequenterweise größer sind als die Nanopartikel, typischerweise um eine oder mehrere Größenordnungen, und dann die Hülle eine Vielzahl von Nanopartikeln enthält. Die Hülle weist dann in einer geeigneten Ausgestaltung eine Schichtdicke im Bereich von 100 nm bis 200 nm auf, besonders bevorzugt ist eine mittlere Schichtdicke von 150 nm.
Bevorzugterweise bildet das Silizium in der Hülle (genauer gesagt ein zweiter Teil des Siliziums in der Hülle) zusammen mit dem Kohlenstoff und dem Stickstoff eine inaktive Matrix, in welche die Nanopartikel eingebettet sind. Die Nanopartikel sind ein aktives Material, enthalten nämlich Silizium, welches während eines Zyklus lithiiert und delithiiert wird. Die inaktive Matrix ist im Gegensatz dazu ein inaktives Material, welches entsprechend während eines Zyklus nicht lithiiert und delithiiert wird.
Die Erfindung geht zunächst von der Beobachtung aus, dass grundsätzlich ein Bedarf an einer Steigerung der Energiedichte von Batterien bei gleichzeitiger Bauraumbeschränkung besteht. Dies ist speziell relevant für elektrisch angetriebene Fahrzeuge jeglicher Art. Für Lithium-Ionen- Batterien ist es grundsätzlich möglich, Kohlenstoff oder Silizium als Anodenmaterial zu verwenden. Graphit (eine Konfiguration des Kohlenstoffs) beispielsweise weist jedoch eine geringe Energiedichte auf, deren theoretisches Maximum lediglich 372 mAh/g beträgt. Für Silizium ist die Energiedichte dagegen um eine Größenordnung größer und beträgt theoretisch maximal 3579 mAh/g. Daher ist die Verwendung von Silizium grundsätzlich zunächst vorteilhaft. Silizium weist jedoch auch einige Nachteile auf, speziell eine starke Volumenänderung bei der Lithiie- rung und Delithiierung (d.h. beim Laden und Entladen, also während eines Zyklus) sowie eine geringe elektrische Leitfähigkeit. Daraus ergeben sich weitere Probleme, insbesondere ein irreversibles Einfangen von Lithium (sogenanntes „lithium trapping“), mechanische Zerstörung des Anodenmaterials in Form von Brüchen oder Pulverisierung, elektrische Isolierung und eine instabile und fortwährende Ausbildung einer Feststoff-Elektrolyt-Zwischenphase (sogenannte SEI, für „solid-electrolyte interphase“). Insgesamt folgen daraus schlechte elektrochemische Eigenschaften, insbesondere ein großer, irreversibler Kapazitätsverlust speziell beim ersten Zyklus (d.h. Lade-/Entladezyklus) und bei langen Zyklen, eine Erhöhung des internen elektrischen Widerstands, eine schlechte Zykleneffizienz und eine drastische Abnahme der Kapazität mit fortschreitender Zyklenanzahl.
Um die Nachteile bei der Verwendung von Silizium zu reduzieren, sind verschiedene Lösungen denkbar und vorteilhaft. In einer geeigneten Ausgestaltung wird die Ausdehnung oder Größe des Siliziums angepasst, speziell verringert. Beispielsweise wird - wie oben bereits als vorteilhaft beschrieben - Silizium in Form von Nanopartikeln verwendet, um mechanische Belastungen und deren Effekte (Brüche und Pulverisierung) zu verringern. Außerdem wird auf diese Weise eine schnellere Diffusion von Lithiumionen erzielt sowie ein schnellerer Elektronentransfer. Ebenfalls vorteilhaft ist eine Beschichtung des Siliziums, allgemein des aktiven Materials, mit einem Material mit möglichst hoher elektrischer Leitfähigkeit, wodurch diese entsprechend insgesamt verbessert wird und wodurch ebenfalls Nebenreaktion an der Oberfläche des Siliziums (des aktiven Materials im Allgemeinen) vermindert werden, was die Gefahr von mechanischer Beschädigung weiter reduziert. Besonders vorteilhaft ist weiterhin eine Verdünnung des Siliziums, welches bezüglich des Lithiums ein aktives Material ist, mit einem bezüglich des Li- thiums inaktiven Material. Auf diese Weise wird die Volumenänderung bei der Lithiierung und Delithiierung reduziert, da das inaktive Material hierzu entsprechend nicht beiträgt. Die Verdünnung des aktiven Siliziums mit einem inaktiven Material verbessert zudem potentiell auch die elektrische Leitfähigkeit des Anodenmaterials insgesamt. Weiterhin vorteilhaft ist ein spezielles Leerraumdesign (d.h. „void space engineering“), d.h. eine absichtliche Erzeugung von Hohlräumen im Anodenmaterial, welche dann eine Volumenänderung aufnehmen und welche auch ein Anwachsen der Feststoff-Elektrolyt-Zwischenphase begrenzen. Ähnlich zur bereits beschriebenen Kombination von aktivem und inaktivem Material ist es auch vorteilhaft, spezielle Verbindungen zu verwenden, welche als aktives Material dann Kohlenstoff, z.B. in Form von Graphit aufweisen. Ein solches Anodenmaterial lässt sich regelmäßig besonders gut kalandrieren, sodass eine hohe Elektrodendichte erzielt wird.
Von den vorgenannten Lösungen werden vorliegend die Beschichtung des aktiven Materials, die Kombination des aktiven Materials mit einem inaktiven Material und die Verwendung spezieller Verbindungen als besonders vielversprechend und vorteilhaft angesehen. Dies ergibt sich insbesondere daraus, dass die Verwendung von Silizium-Nanopartikeln allein für sich genommen und ein Leerraumdesign nachteilig zu einer verringerten Energiedichte führen und eine entsprechende Batterie bei gleicher Energiedichte mehr Bauraum benötigt. Außerdem führt das Leerraumdesign zu einem großen, irreversiblen Kapazitätsverlust beim ersten Zyklus. Dies kann zu einem gewissen Grad durch die Verwendung von Siliziumoxid (d.h. SiOx, wobei x die Teilchenanzahl von Sauerstoff relativ zum Silizium angibt) vermieden werden, Siliziumoxid hat aber weitere Nachteile, wie weiter unten noch beschrieben wird. Beispielsweise ist es vorteilhaft, Silizium-Nanopartikel in eine inaktive Matrix aus Siliziumoxid einzubetten, um die Volumenänderung beim Laden und Entladen zumindest teilweise zu unterdrücken. Alternativ oder zusätzlich enthält die inaktive Matrix Kohlenstoff, z.B. Graphit. Auch die Verwendung einer Verbindung aus Silizium und Kohlenstoff ist entsprechend vorteilhaft.
Obwohl eine inaktive Matrix (d.h. ein inaktives Material, zur Einbettung des aktiven Materials) als Teil des Anodenmaterials grundsätzlich vorteilhaft ist, ergeben sich auch Nachteile hinsichtlich der elektrochemischen Eigenschaften. Beispielsweise können bei der Verwendung von Siliziumoxid dann in Nebenreaktionen Li2O und Li4SiO4 gebildet werden, was zu einem verringerten Coulomb- Wirkungsgrad führt. Dieser Prozess ist zudem irreversibel. Im Fall von Silizi- umcarbid werden zur Herstellung Silizium-Nanopartikel beispielsweise durch mechanisches Mahlen erzeugt, wobei sich dann aber an der Oberfläche der Silizium-Nanopartikel regelmäßig Siliziumoxid bildet, mit den genannten Nachteilen. Zusätzlich ist die inaktive Matrix aus Kohlen- stoff durch das Mahlen spröde und weist eine nur geringe mechanische Festigkeit auf, d.h. bricht leicht beim durch wiederholtes Laden/Entladen.
Als weitere Lösung kommt eine Vor-Lithiierung des Anodenmaterials vor der Herstellung der Batterie in Betracht, um den Lithiumverlust im ersten Zyklus zu kompensieren. Die Verwendung von Lithium ist jedoch generell problematisch und gefährlich, was durch die nun erhöhte Menge nur nachteilig verschärft wird.
Vorliegend wurde beobachtet, dass eine Einbettung von Silizium-Nanopartikeln in Siliziumcar- bid (SiCx) oder Siliziumnitrid (SiNx) besonders vorteilhaft ist und ein besonders geeignetes Anodenmaterial ergibt. Ein solches Anodenmaterial wird in einer geeigneten Ausgestaltung durch chemische Gasphasenabscheidung und somit durch thermische Zersetzung eines Gasgemisches hergestellt, welches vorzugsweise Monosilan in Kombination mit Ethylen (für Silizi- umcarbid) oder Ammoniak (für SiNx) enthält. Ein solches Anodenmaterial weist eine vorteilhaft verringerte Menge an irreversiblen Reaktionsprodukten auf sowie eine höhere reversible Kapazität. Ein Anodenmaterial mit Siliziumcarbid als inaktiver Matrix zeichnet sich zudem durch eine besonders hohe mechanische Festigkeit aus, speziell im Vergleich zu einfachem Kohlenstoff, und weist auch eine hohe elektrische Leitfähigkeit auf. Ein Anodenmaterial mit Siliziumnitrid als inaktiver Matrix zeichnet sich dagegen durch eine besonders hohe I onenleitfähigkeit aus, speziell im Vergleich zu Siliziumoxid oder reinem Kohlenstoff, und weist auch ein verbessertes elektrochemisches Verhalten auf.
Entsprechend werden vorliegend Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff mit Silizium zu einem Anodenmaterial kombiniert, welches dann die genannten Vorteile der Verwendung von dieser beiden Elemente in Verbindung mit Silizium kombiniert. Der Kohlenstoff und der Stickstoff sind dabei insbesondere an der Bildung einer inaktiven Matrix beteiligt, in welche zumindest ein Teil des Siliziums als aktives Material eingebettet ist, vorzugsweise als Nanopartikel. In einer bevorzugten Ausgestaltung bilden Kohlenstoff, Stickstoff und Silizium hierzu insbesondere verschiedene Verbindungen, welche dann gemeinsam die inaktive Matrix bilden. Bevorzugterweise ist die inaktive Matrix gebildet aus einer Vielzahl an Bereichen aus stickstoff-dotiertem Kohlenstoff (d.h. der Kohlenstoff bildet ein Gitter, welches vereinzelt Stickstoff aufweist), Siliziumnitrid (SiN), Siliziumcarbid (SiC) und/oder Siliziumcarbonitrid (SiCN), besonders bevorzugt aus allen diesen Verbindungen. Durch Experimente wurde bestätigt, dass ein Anodenmaterial mit einer solchen inaktiven Matrix auf Basis von SiCxNy z.B. im Vergleich zur Verwendung von lediglich SiNx oder lediglich SiCx eine verbesserte Zyklenstabilität aufweist, sowohl in einer Halbzellenkonfiguration wie auch in einer Vollzellenkonfiguration. Außerdem weist das Anodenmaterial auf Basis von SiCxNy gegenüber den genannten anderen Konfigurationen verbesserte elektrochemische Eigenschaften auf.
Abseits der bisher im Detail beschriebenen Hülle weisen die Partikel des Anodenmaterials auch einen Kern auf. Dessen Beschaffenheit ist vorliegend von untergeordneter Bedeutung, allerdings ist eine Ausgestaltung zweckmäßig, bei welcher der Kern ausschließlich aus Kohlenstoff besteht. Vorteilhaft ist auch eine Ausgestaltung, bei welcher der Kern massiv ist. Der Kohlenstoff bildet allgemein insbesondere ein Gerüst für die Hülle und hält und/oder stabilisiert diese. Ein Kern aus Kohlenstoff wird daher auch als kohlenstoffhaltiges Gerüst bezeichnet, unabhängig davon, ob der Kern gegebenenfalls massiv ist. Der Kern weist vorzugsweise einen mittleren Durchmesser auf, welcher ein bis zwei Größenordnungen größer ist als die Schichtdicke der Hülle. In einer geeigneten Ausgestaltung weist der Kern einen mittleren Durchmesser von 500 nm bis 50 pm auf, besonders geeignet ist ein mittlerer Durchmesser von 1 pm bis 10 pm, insbesondere 5 pm.
In einer bevorzugten Ausgestaltung weisen die Partikel jeweils eine Umhüllung aus Kohlenstoff auf, in welche der Kern und die Hülle eingeschlossen sind. Der Kern ist somit sozusagen doppelt beschichtet, wobei die Hülle eine erste, innere Schicht bildet und die Umhüllung aus Kohlenstoff eine zweite, äußere Schicht. Die Umhüllung schließt sich vorzugsweise unmittelbar an die Hülle an. Die Umhüllung aus Kohlenstoff dient insbesondere als Füllmaterial zwischen den diversen Hüllen (und den davon umschlossenen Kernen) und beabstandet diese zueinander. Zweckmäßigerweise sind die Umhüllungen der Partikel miteinander verwachsen und/oder verbunden und bilden dann ein Netzwerk, in welches die Kerne mit Hüllen eingebettet sind, analog zu einem einzelnen Partikel, bei welchem in dessen inaktive Matrix die Nanopartikel eingebettet sind.
Für die jeweilige Form von Kern und Hülle sind verschiedenste Ausgestaltungen denkbar und geeignet. Vorzugsweise folgt die Hülle einer Außenkontur des Kerns und weist an jeder Stelle im Wesentlichen (d.h. mit einer Toleranz < 5%) die gleiche Schichtdicke auf. Auf diese Weise bildet die Hülle eine gleichmäßige Schale für den Kern. Bevorzugt ist eine Ausgestaltung, bei welcher der Kern und die Hülle eines jeweiligen Partikels zusammengenommen platten- oder stabförmig ausgebildet sind. Grundsätzlich geeignet ist aber auch eine Kugelform von Kern und Hülle. Eine erfindungsgemäße Batterie weist eine Anode auf, welche aus einem Anodenmaterial wie oben beschrieben hergestellt ist. Die Batterie ist vorzugsweise eine Lithium-Ionen-Batterie. Die Batterie dient vorzugsweise zur Versorgung eines elektrischen Antriebs eines Fahrzeugs.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Anodenmaterials, insbesondere eines Anodenmaterials wie oben beschrieben. Das Anodenmaterial weist eine Anzahl an Partikeln auf, wobei ein jeweiliges Partikel einen Kern aufweist und eine Hülle, welche den Kern umgibt. Die Hülle wird mittels Gasphasenabscheidung, insbesondere chemische Gasphasenabscheidung, d.h. CVD, aus einem siliziumhaltigen Gas, einem kohlenstoffhaltigen Gas und einem stickstoffhaltigen Gas hergestellt. Das siliziumhaltige Gas ist vorzugsweise Monosilan (SiH4). Das kohlenstoffhaltige Gas ist vorzugsweise Ethen (C2H4). Das stickstoffhaltige Gas ist vorzugsweise Ammoniak (NH3). Geeigneterweise werden alle drei Gase zugleich angewendet, d.h. in einem gemeinsamen Verfahrensschritt, und gerade nicht getrennt und in verschiedenen Verfahrensschritten. Durch die relativen Verhältnisse der Volumenströme der drei Gase zueinander und die jeweils verwendete Menge an Gas lassen sich die genaue Zusammensetzung und Form des Anodenmaterials, speziell der Partikel, im Detail einstellen. Weitere Parameter zur Beeinflussung der Herstellung und des daraus resultierenden Anodenmaterials sind Temperatur und Zeit während der Herstellung sowie Größe und Morphologie der Kerne des Anodenmaterials. Die optimalen Parameter können je nach Anwendungsfall des Anodenmaterials verschieden sein. Zweckmäßigerweise werden die jeweils optimalen Parameter für die Herstellung durch Experimente ermittelt.
Nachfolgend werden Ausführungsbeispiele der Erfindung anhand einer Zeichnung näher erläutert. Darin zeigen jeweils schematisch:

In Fig. 1 ist ausschnittsweise ein Anodenmaterial 2 dargestellt, welcher ausgebildet ist zur Verwendung in einer Anode 4 einer Batterie 6, z.B. wie in Fig. 2 dargestellt. Die Batterie 6 weist weiter eine Kathode 8 auf und ist hier beispielhaft eine Lithium-Ionen-Batterie. Das Anodenmaterial 2 weist eine Anzahl von Partikeln 10 auf. Unter „eine Anzahl von“ wird „ein oder mehrere“ verstanden, typischerweise weist das Anodenmaterial 2 eine Vielzahl von Partikeln 10 auf. Ein einzelnes Partikel 10 weist im gezeigten Ausführungsbeispiel einen mittleren Durchmesser von 50 nm bis 50 pm auf, welcher sich als Mittelwert aus den verschiedenen Durchmessern D1 ergibt.
Wie aus Fig. 1 erkennbar ist, weist ein jeweiliges Partikel 10 einen Kern 12 auf und eine Hülle 14, welche den Kern 12 unmittelbar umgibt. Die Hülle 14 enthält Silizium, Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff und besteht hier ausschließlich aus Silizium, Kohlenstoff, Stickstoff und/oder Verbindungen daraus. Abseits der genannten Elemente Silizium, Stickstoff und Kohlenstoff weist die Hülle 14 keine weiteren Elemente auf. Entsprechend wird die Hülle 14 auch als SiCxNy-Schicht bezeichnet, d.h. als Schicht aus Silizium in Kombination mit Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff.
Das Silizium der Hülle 14 dient vorliegend als aktives Material, welches beim Laden und Entladen entsprechend Lithiumionen aufnimmt und abgibt (dies wird als Lithiierung und Delithiierung bezeichnet). Das Anodenmaterial 2 ist somit ein siliziumbasiertes Anodenmaterial 2.
Im gezeigten Ausführungsbeispiel bildet das Silizium in der Hülle 14 eine Vielzahl von Nanopartikeln 16. Dies ist in Fig. 3 erkennbar, welche einen Ausschnitt der Fig. 1 in einer vergrößerten Darstellung zeigt, sodass die Hülle 14 eines der Partikel 10 im Detail erkennbar ist. Die Nanopartikel 16 bestehen jeweils ausschließlich aus Silizium und werden daher auch als Silizium- Nanopartikel bezeichnet. Vorliegend weisen die Nanopartikel 16 einen mittleren Durchmesser im Bereich von 1 nm bis 2 nm auf, welcher sich als Mittelwert aus möglicherweise verschiedenen Durchmessern D2 ergibt.
Die Nanopartikel 16 sind ein Teil der Hülle 14, sodass die Partikel 10 des Anodenmaterials 2 konsequenterweise größer sind als die Nanopartikel 16, typischerweise um eine oder mehrere Größenordnungen. Die Hülle 14 weist beispielsweise eine Schichtdicke D3 im Bereich von 100 nm bis 200 nm auf.
Das Silizium in der Hülle 14 bildet zusammen mit dem Kohlenstoff und dem Stickstoff eine inaktive Matrix 18, in welche die Nanopartikel 16 eingebettet sind. Die Nanopartikel 16 sind ein aktives Material, enthalten nämlich Silizium, welches während eines Zyklus lithiiert und delithiiert wird. Die inaktive Matrix 18 ist im Gegensatz dazu ein inaktives Material, welches entsprechend während eines Zyklus nicht lithiiert und delithiiert wird.
Wie bereits angedeutet, werden vorliegend Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff mit Silizium zu einem Anodenmaterial 2 kombiniert. Der Kohlenstoff und der Stickstoff sind dabei an der Bildung der inaktiven Matrix 18 beteiligt, in welche zumindest ein Teil des Siliziums als aktives Material eingebettet ist, hier als Nanopartikel 16. Im gezeigten Ausführungsbeispiel bilden Kohlenstoff, Stickstoff und Silizium hierzu verschiedene Verbindungen, welche dann gemeinsam die inaktive Matrix 18 bilden. Vorliegend ist die inaktive Matrix 18 gebildet aus einer Vielzahl an Bereichen aus stickstoff-dotiertem Kohlenstoff 20, Siliziumnitrid 22, Siliziumcarbid 24 und Siliziumcarbonitrid 26. In Fig. 3 wird zwischen stickstoff-dotiertem Kohlenstoff 20 und Siliziumcarbid 24 der Übersichtlichkeit halber nicht explizit unterschieden, sondern diejenigen Bereiche, welche Kohlenstoff und/oder Verbindungen mit Kohlenstoff abseits von SiCN aufweisen sind der Einfachheit halber zusammengefasst.
Die Fig. 4 bis 7 zeigen Ergebnisse von Experimenten, durch welche bestätigt wurde, dass ein Anodenmaterial 2 mit einer inaktiven Matrix 18 auf Basis von SiCxNy im Vergleich zur Verwendung von lediglich SiNx oder lediglich SiCx eine verbesserte Zyklenstabilität aufweist, sowohl in einer Halbzellenkonfiguration (vgl. Fig. 4 bis 6) wie auch in einer Vollzellenkonfiguration (vgl. Fig. 7). Dabei zeigt Fig. 4 das Spannungsprofil dreier Halbzellen, nämlich Anoden aus SiNx, SiCx und SiCxNy, im ersten Zyklus. Dabei ist die Spannung 28 (in V) der jeweiligen Halbzelle als Funktion der spezifischen Kapazität 30 (in mAh/g) angegeben. In Fig. 5 sind dann die spezifische Kapazität 30 (in mAh/g) auf der linken Seite und der Coulomb- Wirkungsgrad 32 (in %) auf der rechten Seite als Funktion der Zyklenanzahl 34 (dimensionslos) für die drei Halbzellen gezeigt. Fig. 6 zeigt das Ergebnis eines Entladeratentests für die drei Halbzellen. Dabei ist das Speicherfähigkeitsverhältnis 36 („capacity retention ratio“), d.h. die Speicherfähigkeit im Vergleich zum ersten Zyklus, als Funktion der Zyklenanzahl 34 gezeigt, wobei mit fortschreitenden Zyklen der Ladestrom erhöht wird (das Speicherfähigkeitsverhältnis entspricht insbesondere dem Verhältnis der spezifischen Kapazität in einem bestimmten Zyklus zur ursprünglichen spezifischen Kapazität im ersten Zyklus und gibt somit an, wieviel der ursprünglichen Speicherfä- higkeit nach einer bestimmten Zyklenanzahl noch erhalten ist). So beträgt der Ladestrom für den ersten Zyklus 0,2 C (C = A/Ah), für den zweiten bis vierten Zyklus 0,5 C, für den fünften bis siebten Zyklus 1 C, für den achten bis zehnten Zyklus 2 C und für den elften bis dreizehnten Zyklus 3 C. Fig. 7 zeigt schließlich ebenfalls das Speicherfähigkeitsverhältnis 36 als Funktion der Zyklenanzahl 34, nun allerdings für eine Vollzellenkonfiguration, nämlich drei Vollzellen mit Anoden aus SiNx, SiCx und SiCxNy mit dem Formfaktor 2032R.
Abseits der bisher im Detail beschriebenen Hülle 14 weisen die Partikel 10 des Anodenmaterials 2 auch einen Kern 12 auf. Im gezeigten Ausführungsbeispiel besteht der Kern 12 ausschließlich aus Kohlenstoff, welcher allgemein ein Gerüst für die Hülle 14 bildet und diese hält und/oder stabilisiert. Der Kern 12 weist beispielsweise einen mittleren Durchmesser auf, welcher ein bis zwei Größenordnungen größer ist als die Schichtdicke D3 der Hülle 14 und welcher sich als Mittelwert der verschiedenen Durchmesser D4 ergibt.
Zusätzlich weisen die Partikel 10 in der hier gezeigten Ausführungsform jeweils eine Umhüllung 38 aus Kohlenstoff auf, in welche der Kern 12 und die Hülle 14 eingeschlossen sind. Der Kern 12 ist somit doppelt beschichtet, wobei die Hülle 14 eine erste, innere Schicht bildet und die Umhüllung 38 aus Kohlenstoff eine zweite, äußere Schicht. Die Umhüllung 38 schließt sich unmittelbar an die Hülle 14 an. Die Umhüllung 38 dient zudem als Füllmaterial zwischen den diversen Hüllen 14 und beabstandet diese zueinander, wie in Fig. 1 gut zu erkennen ist. Die Umhüllungen 38 der Partikel 10 sind hier sogar miteinander verwachsen und/oder verbunden und bilden dann ein Netzwerk, in welches die Kerne 12 mit Hüllen 14 eingebettet sind, analog zu einem einzelnen Partikel 10, bei welchem in dessen inaktive Matrix 18 die Nanopartikel 16 eingebettet sind.
Für die jeweilige Form von Kern und Hülle sind verschiedenste Ausgestaltungen denkbar. Vorliegend folgt die Hülle 14 einer Außenkontur des Kerns 12 und weist an jeder Stelle im Wesentlichen die gleiche Schichtdicke D3 auf. Auf diese Weise bildet die Hülle 14 eine gleichmäßige Schale für den Kern 12. Weiter sind in dem hier gezeigten Ausführungsbeispiel der Kern 12 und die Hülle 14 eines jeweiligen Partikels 10 zusammengenommen platten- oder stabförmig ausgebildet sind. Grundsätzlich möglich ist aber auch eine hier nicht gezeigte Kugelform von Kern 12 und Hülle 14.
In Fig. 8 ist ein Ausführungsbeispiel eines Verfahren zur Herstellung des Anodenmaterials 2 gezeigt. Dabei wird die Hülle 14 in einer Kammer 40 mittels chemischer Gasphasenabscheidung (CVD) aus einem siliziumhaltigen Gas 42, einem kohlenstoffhaltigen Gas 44 und einem stickstoffhaltigen Gas 46 hergestellt. Das siliziumhaltige Gas 42 ist hier Monosilan (SiH4). Das kohlenstoffhaltige Gas 44 ist hier Ethen (C2H4). Das stickstoffhaltige Gas 46 ist hier Ammoniak (NH3). Alle drei Gase werden zugleich angewendet, d.h. in einem gemeinsamen Verfahrensschritt, und gerade nicht getrennt und in verschiedenen Verfahrensschritten.

Claims

Patentansprüche Anodenmaterial (2), mit einer Anzahl an Partikeln (10), a. wobei ein jeweiliges Partikel (10) einen Kern (12) aufweist und eine Hülle (14), welche den Kern (12) umgibt, b. wobei die Hülle (14) Silizium, Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff enthält. Anodenmaterial (2) nach Anspruch 1 , wobei das Silizium in der Hülle (12) eine Vielzahl von Nanopartikeln (16) bildet. Anodenmaterial (2) nach Anspruch 2, wobei die Nanopartikel (16) einen mittleren Durchmesser im Bereich von 0,5 nm bis 5 nm aufweisen. Anodenmaterial (2) nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei das Silizium in der Hülle (14) zusammen mit dem Kohlenstoff und dem Stickstoff eine inaktive Matrix (18) bildet, in welche die Nanopartikel (16) eingebettet sind. Anodenmaterial (2) nach Anspruch 4, wobei die inaktive Matrix (18) gebildet ist aus einer Vielzahl an Bereichen aus stickstoffdotiertem Kohlenstoff (20), Siliziumnitrid (22), Siliziumcarbid (24) und Siliziumcarbonitrid (26). Anodenmaterial (2) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, wobei der Kern (12) ausschließlich aus Kohlenstoff besteht. Anodenmaterial (2) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6, wobei die Partikel (10) jeweils eine Umhüllung (38) aus Kohlenstoff aufweisen, in welche der Kern (12) und die Hülle (14) eingeschlossen sind. Anodenmaterial (2) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, wobei der Kern (12) und die Hülle (14) eines jeweiligen Partikels (10) zusammengenommen platten- oder stabförmig ausgebildet sind. Batterie (6) welche eine Anode (4) aufweist, welche aus einem Anodenmaterial (2) gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8 hergestellt ist. erfahren zur Herstellung eines Anodenmaterials (2), mit einer Anzahl an Partikeln (10), a. wobei ein jeweiliges Partikel (10) einen Kern (12) aufweist und eine Hülle (14), welche den Kern (12) umgibt, b. wobei die Hülle (14) mittels Gasphasenabscheidung aus einem siliziumhaltigen Gas (42), einem kohlenstoffhaltigen Gas (44) und einem stickstoffhaltigen Gas (46) hergestellt wird.
