Definitions
- the invention relates to the technical field of plastic tanks for motor vehicles, more particularly liquid fuel tanks.
- the invention generally relates to a frame for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle comprising at least one means intended for fixing an internal reinforcing element of the tank.
- the invention relates to an armature for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle comprising at least one means intended for fixing an internal reinforcing element for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle.
- the invention also relates to an assembly configured to be fixed inside a plastic tank for a motor vehicle comprising said reinforcement and at least one internal reinforcing element, as well as to the plastic tank for a motor vehicle comprising said assembly.
- the invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a plastic tank for a motor vehicle.
- Plastic fuel tanks obtained by extrusion-blow molding of a parison undergo dimensional variations during their life, that is first of all, as soon as they leave the mold, due to their cooling which is accompanied by a shrinkage of the material, either during their use, in particular due to overpressure or depression of their contents, or due to their thermal expansion during their lifetime, or even due to their aging. It is known to insert internal reinforcement elements within the tank during the manufacture of the latter. These internal reinforcing elements are intended to increase the resistance of the plastic tank to the mechanical stresses to which they are subjected during their life.
- the aim of the invention is in particular to overcome these drawbacks of the prior art.
- the object of the invention is to provide an assembly comprising an armature for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle, the assembly also comprising at least one internal reinforcing element, said assembly having an increased ability to adapt to the dimensional variations of the tank, more particularly during the manufacture of said tank and having a resistance to compression and to stretching in the vertical direction Z with respect to the vehicle.
- an objective of the invention in at least one of its embodiments, is to provide a frame comprising a fixing means configured to fix at least one internal reinforcement element, the frame and the at least one internal reinforcement element being able to form an assembly having an increased capacity to adapt to the dimensional variations of a tank made of plastic material for a motor vehicle, more particularly during the manufacture of said tank.
- the invention in at least one of its embodiments, also aims to provide a plastic tank for a motor vehicle.
- Another objective of the invention in at least one of its embodiments, is to implement a method for manufacturing a plastic tank for a motor vehicle.
- the invention relates to a frame for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle comprising at least one means intended for fixing an internal reinforcing element of the tank.
- the means intended for fixing the internal reinforcing element comprises:
- At least one second structure configured to surround, preferably enclose, at least partly a second outer part of the internal reinforcing element.
- the general principle of the invention is based on the presence of a means intended for the fixing of the internal reinforcing element making it possible simultaneously to grip at least in part a first outer part of the reinforcing element internal reinforcement, to center the internal reinforcement element with respect to the reinforcement and to limit the relative movements of the reinforcement and of the internal reinforcement element, mainly a rotation of one relative to the other, to using at least a second structure configured to at least partially surround a second exterior part of the internal reinforcement element.
- a fixing means also makes it possible to obtain a connection between the internal reinforcing element and the reinforcement having a certain degree of freedom of movement from one relative to the other.
- the invention is based on an entirely new and inventive approach to a fastening means allowing an increase in the capacity of an assembly comprising a reinforcement and at least one internal reinforcing element to adapt to the dimensional variations of the tank and allows a reduction in the stresses generated by the presence of said assembly within the tank.
- the fact of at least partially enclosing a first outer part of the internal reinforcing element with the aid of a first structure in the axis parallel to the weld surface of the internal reinforcing element on the reservoir makes it possible to increase the contact surface between the reinforcement and the internal reinforcing element. This increase in surface thus limits the relative displacements between the two parts in the two parallel axes with respect in particular to the weld surface.
- Such an interconnection created between the internal reinforcing element and the reinforcement by the use of a second structure configured to at least partially surround a second outer part makes it possible to ensure centering of the two parts.
- This centering limits the movements permitted by the mere fact of enclosing, at least in part, a first outer part of the internal reinforcing elements by the first structure.
- the armature thus has an indirect link with the tank and this in a constant position.
- the second structure configured to at least partially surround a second outer part of the internal reinforcing element is such that it encloses said at least one second outer part of the internal reinforcing element, this allows centering and improved binding.
- internal reinforcing element is meant a structural element welded at both ends to the plastic tank in order to limit the deformation of the tank when it is pressurized.
- the term “reservoir” is intended to designate a sealed reservoir, capable of storing liquid fuel under various and varied conditions of use and environment.
- the tank according to the invention is made with a plastic material wall, generally comprising an inner face on its concave part and an outer face on its convex part.
- the tank is a liquid fuel plastic tank.
- a second structure configured to at least partially surround a second outer part of the internal reinforcing element is meant the fact that the second structure at least partially encircles a part of the second outer part of the internal reinforcement element without necessarily exerting pressure on the latter.
- the second outer part of the internal reinforcing element can be imprisoned in a space wider than its dimensions and therefore it is capable of moving in a limited manner within the second structure.
- a second structure configured to at least partially enclose a second outer part of the internal reinforcing element is meant the fact that a part of the second structure comes into contact with at least a part of the second outer part of the internal reinforcing element and exerts pressure on the latter.
- the frame for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle according to the invention is such that the first structure configured to enclose at least in part a first outer part of the internal reinforcing element comprises at least one arm configured to be inserted between two protuberances of the internal reinforcement element.
- the insertion of at least one arm of the first structure of the fastening means between two protrusions present on a first outer part of the internal reinforcing element makes it possible to block the translational movements of the armature by relative to the internal reinforcement element. More particularly, this insertion makes it possible to block the movements of the armature relative to the internal reinforcing element in the direction perpendicular to the surface of the weld of the internal reinforcing element on the plastic tank.
- the reinforcement for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle is such that the first structure configured to enclose at least in part a first outer part of the reinforcing element internal reinforcement comprises at least two arms, preferably the at least two arms, being configured to be inserted between two protuberances of the internal reinforcement element.
- a first structure comprising two arms makes it possible to distribute the stresses over these two arms, thus improving the mechanical resistance to the stresses undergone.
- the frame for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle is such that the first structure configured to at least partially enclose a first outer part of the internal reinforcing element comprises a hollowed-out part of material when the at least two arms are located in the same plane, said hollowed-out part of material located between the two arms and opposite the internal reinforcing element when fixing the internal reinforcing element to the frame.
- the frame for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle according to the invention is such that the at least one arm forms an arc of a circle.

- the first structure configured to enclose at least a first outer part of the internal reinforcing element comprises at least two arms having the shape of an arc of a circle, the latter having an angle of at most 180° when they are located in the same clamping plane, more particularly when the internal reinforcing element has a cylindrical zone on which the clamping takes place, the angle of the arc of a circle being a function of the material constituting the arm.
- Such an arrangement makes it easier to enclose the internal reinforcing element.
- the frame for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle is such that at least one arm comprises a protrusion at its end, said protrusion being preferably oriented on the inner part of the arm intended to enclose at least a first part of the internal reinforcing element.
- the protrusion makes it possible to limit the length of the arc of a circle by guaranteeing the tightness of the internal reinforcement element. Limiting the length of the arc of a circle reduces the “material” constraints when positioning the reinforcing element within the arm, preferably between the two arms, of the first structure.
- the frame for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle is such that the at least one arm comprises a locking means, for example in the form of a slope, configured to lock the fixing the internal reinforcement element to the reinforcement.

- the reinforcement for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle is such that it comprises a deformable link connecting the reinforcement and the means intended for fixing the internal reinforcing element, said link being configured to deform in order to allow relative movement of the reinforcement and of the means intended for fixing the internal reinforcing element with respect to each other under the effect of a mechanical stress external to the frame.
- a deformable link makes it possible to reduce the stresses on the reinforcement, said stresses being linked to variations in temperature and pressure in the reservoir generating deformations by displacement of the element internal reinforcement or internal reinforcement elements with respect to each other. These displacements generate stresses on the reinforcement if no deformable link is present on the reinforcement and therefore between the latter and the internal reinforcement element(s).
- the deformable link allows deformations in the axes parallel to the weld surface of the internal reinforcing element on the tank.
- the reinforcement for a plastic tank for a motor vehicle is based on a material selected from the group of materials consisting of high density polyethylene (HDPE), polyoxymethylene (POM) , polyamide (PA), polyphthalamide (PPA), polyketone (PK).
