Definitions
- TITLE Process for the preparation of a furan polyamide
- the present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a furan polyamide.
- Polyesters have many applications in the industrial and textile fields, in particular for the production of fibers for clothing. Their variety of applications is such that the volumes produced each year are very large.
- the fibers intended for clothing are essentially made up of petro-based polyesters or polyamides of the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or Nylon 6/6 type.
- polyesters from monomers derived from renewable resources, and having technical characteristics allowing them to be substituted for petro-based polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
- PET polyethylene terephthalate
- Polyester synthesis typically includes an esterification step and a polycondensation step, optionally followed by crystallization and solid-state post-condensation steps to adjust the properties of the polyester. The conduct of these different steps depends on the structure, and therefore the characteristics, of the polyester obtained.
- a subject of the present invention is therefore a process for the preparation of a furan polyamide comprising the following successive steps: a) a step of reacting a compound A of formula (I) below: with at least one compound B chosen from dicarboxylic acids, their diesters and mixtures thereof, at a temperature less than or equal to 60° C., the molar ratio between compound A and compound(s) B ranging from 0.8 at 1.2, in order to obtain a salt; b) a step of polycondensation of said salt at a temperature Tb ranging from 125 to 220°C when a single compound B is used in step a) and ranging from 125°C to 230°C when at least two compounds B are used in step a), and at a pressure PI greater than or equal to atmospheric pressure and strictly less than 5 bar for a first duration DI then at a pressure P2 strictly lower than atmospheric pressure for a second duration D2.
- the process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain furan polyamides having very advantageous characteristics, in particular having a melting temperature strictly greater than 220° C. as well as a degradation temperature which is at least 20° C. higher than that of the melting temperature. Indeed, with these characteristics, it is possible to use furan polyamides for the production of technical fibers that can be assembled in the form of a fabric, a knit or a non-woven fabric, preferably for the production of fibers intended for clothing.
- any interval of values designated by the expression "between a and b" represents the range of values going from more than a to less than b (i.e. limits a and b excluded) while any interval of values designated by the expression “from a to b” means the range of values going from a to b (that is to say including the strict limits a and b).
- Step a) of the process according to the invention is a reaction of a compound A of formula (I) as indicated above with at least one compound B chosen from dicarboxylic acids, their diesters and their mixtures , at a temperature less than or equal to 60° C., the molar ratio between compound A and compound(s) B ranging from 0.8 to 1.2, in order to obtain a salt.
- Compound A is 2,5-bis(aminomethyl)furan (BAMF). It is of particular interest because it is a bio-based monomer, bio-based being understood within the meaning of standard NF EN 16640: 2017. BAMF can be obtained for example from hydroxymethylfurfural, the latter being able to be obtained from Ce sugars, such as glucose or fructose.
- BAMF 2,5-bis(aminomethyl)furan
- the process according to the invention also involves the implementation of at least one compound B chosen from dicarboxylic acids, their diesters and their mixtures.
- said compound B is chosen from dicarboxylic acids and mixtures thereof.
- step a) is a reaction of said compound A with a single compound B chosen from dicarboxylic acids, said compound B comprising from 4 to 10 carbon atoms, optionally from 6 to 10 carbon atoms. carbon.
- step a) is a reaction of said compound A with at least two compounds B chosen from dicarboxylic acids, said compounds B comprising from 4 to 10 carbon atoms.
- said compound(s) B are chosen from succinic acid, adipic acid, sebacic acid and 2,5-furanedicarboxylic acid.
- the molar ratio between compound A and compound(s) B ranges from 0.8 to 1.2.
- said molar ratio ranges from 0.9 to 1.1, more preferably from 0.95 to 1.05, even more preferably from 0.98 to 1.02, and better still from 1.
- the temperature during step a) is less than or equal to 60°C, preferably less than or equal to 40°C.
- step a) is carried out at room temperature.
- step a) is carried out at atmospheric pressure.
- step a) is carried out in the presence of a solvent, such as water or an alcohol such as ethanol. More preferably, step a) is carried out in ethanol.
- a solvent such as water or an alcohol such as ethanol. More preferably, step a) is carried out in ethanol.
- step a) is carried out under an inert gas atmosphere.
- Step a) can be carried out according to different protocols when at least two B compounds are used, in particular when two B compounds are used.
- the two compounds B are mixed directly with compound A in order to obtain the salt.
- two different salts can be prepared.
- a first salt involving the implementation of the first compound B and the compound A can be prepared, and a second salt involving the implementation of the second compound B and the compound A can be prepared.
- the two salts can then be mixed to obtain the salt at the end of step a).
- compound A is gradually added to compound(s) B, the latter(s) having been placed in the solvent beforehand.
- the molar ratio between the salts [BAMF/sebacic acid] and [BAMF/adipic acid] is less than or equal to 1/2.
- the molar ratio between the salts [BAMF/sebacic acid] and [BAMF/succinic acid] is less than or equal to 1/1 or greater than 4 /1.
- the salt obtained at the end of step a) can optionally be concentrated by partial or total evaporation of the solvent.
- the formation of a dry salt makes it possible in particular to avoid the degradation of compound A or any phenomenon of premature ageing.
- Concentrated or non-concentrated salt can be recrystallized and then filtered if the salt precipitates. The latter can be washed one or more times with solvent then dried in an oven in order to recover the dry salt.
- step b) of the process according to the invention is a step of polycondensation of said salt at a temperature Tb ranging from 125 to 220° C. when a single compound B is used in step a) and ranging from 125° C. to 230° C. when at least two compounds B are used in step a), and at a pressure PI greater than or equal to atmospheric pressure and strictly less than 5 bar for a first duration DI then at a pressure P2 strictly below atmospheric pressure for a second duration D2.
- step b) is carried out are specific. Thanks to the mild conditions implemented, furan polyamides with improved characteristics are obtained.
- the salt is heated to evaporate the water formed in the reaction and/or the solvent while avoiding the formation of a solid phase.
- the reaction medium can first of all be inerted under an inert gas atmosphere, such as for example under dinitrogen, to avoid the risks of oxidation reactions and can be left under nitrogen sweeping to eliminate the water resulting from the polycondensation reaction.
- an inert gas atmosphere such as for example under dinitrogen
- the heating is carried out at a particular temperature ranging from 125 to 220°C when a single compound B is used in step a) and ranging from 125°C to 230°C when at least two compounds B are used in the step a).
- the temperature is constant throughout step b).
- the temperature Tb ranges from 150 to 220° C. when a single compound B is used in step a), and ranges from 150° C. to 230° C. when at least two compounds B are used in step has).
- the temperature Tb ranges from 180 to 230° C. when at least two compounds B are used in step a).
- the pressure PI is greater than or equal to atmospheric pressure and less than or equal to 3 bar, more preferably the pressure PI is greater than or equal to atmospheric pressure and less than or equal to 2 bar.
- the pressure P2 is less than or equal to 100 mbar, preferably the pressure P2 ranges from 0.1 mbar to 100 mbar, more preferably from 0.1 mbar to 30 mbar.
- the first duration DI ranges from 15 min to 8 hours, preferably from 15 min to 5 hours, more preferably from 15 min to 4 hours.
- the second duration D2 ranges from 15 min to 8 hours, preferably from 15 min to 5 hours, more preferably from 15 min to 4 hours.
- the first duration DI is equal to the second duration D2.
- the first duration DI ranges from 15 min to 4 hours and the second duration D2 ranges from 15 min to 4 hours.
- additives can be added, such as catalysts, chain limiters, anti-foaming agents, branching agents, stabilizers, pigments or matting agents.
- a catalyst that can be added is phosphoric acid or any derivative of phosphoric acid.
- the process according to the invention may also comprise: c) a finishing step at a temperature greater than or equal to the melting temperature of the furan polyamide obtained at the end of step b).
- the finish consists of keeping the furan polyamide obtained in the molten state.

Description
