Abstract

The invention relates to a volume-optimized packaging (10), preferably made of corrugated cardboard, which can be laid flat, has a prismatic layout, and is formed by at least eight interconnected lateral wall parts (21-28), preferably formed from a single piece, which are connected to form a ring (20), and each two of which are substantially parallel to one another and have the same side length. The packaging is further formed by a first and a second base part (31, 32; 41, 42) which can be oriented substantially perpendicularly to the lateral wall parts (21-28), can be folded between the lateral wall parts (21-28), and are each hinged to two lateral wall parts (21-28). The invention is characterized in that each of the two base parts (31, 32; 41, 42) has three fold lines (71-73, 74-76; 81-83, 84-86) by means of which the base parts (31, 32; 41, 42) can be folded at least in part into four layers between the lateral wall parts (21-28).

Description

FLAT-FLAT VOLUME-OPTIMIZED PACKAGING

The present invention relates to a volume-optimized packaging that can be laid flat, preferably made of corrugated cardboard, with a prism-shaped outline according to the preamble of claim 1.

EP 1 225 130 A1 discloses an octagonal, foldable packaging made of corrugated cardboard according to the preamble of claim 1, with which heavy and extremely heavy goods can be transported reliably. In order to be able to optimally utilize the space available, for example on a pallet, the two side wall parts to be arranged along the longitudinal sides of a rectangular pallet can be longer than the remaining six side wall parts.

However, there is an increasing need not only to be able to transport very heavy goods in such foldable or lay-flat packaging, but also to be able to transport lighter goods as cost-effectively as possible. For this purpose it is necessary to be able to accommodate as high a volume as possible in such a packaging. In addition, such a package should be able to be produced with a wide variety of geometries, in particular different and as varied as possible ratios of the lengths of the respective side wall parts relative to one another, which is also advantageous for achieving the highest possible volume. At the same time, such packaging must be able to be folded flat for transport to the place of use and unfolded there quickly and safely without complicated handling being necessary.

Octagonal foldable packaging made of corrugated cardboard according to the preamble of claim 1 is also known from EP 3489 160 A1. In an embodiment with a regular octagonal plan, each base part has a single fold line for the necessary folding operations. In order to be able to carry out the desired folding processes even in the case of an irregular, i.e. non-symmetrical, floor plan, in such an embodiment two additional oblique folding lines are provided in the two largest base parts in order to be able to compensate for the "oblique" angles caused by the irregularity .

The present invention is based on the task of creating a large-volume, flattenable packaging that can be transported folded up, unfolded without an erection aid, is dimensionally stable and mechanically supported, inexpensively and can be produced with different ratios of the lengths of the respective side wall parts relative to one another.

This object is achieved according to the invention with a packaging according to claim 1. Advantageous developments of the invention are the subject matter of the dependent claims. According to the invention, a volume-optimized packaging that can be laid flat, preferably made of corrugated cardboard, with a prism-shaped outline, is formed from at least eight side wall parts connected to one another, preferably formed from a single piece, and connected to form a ring, two of which are essentially parallel to one another and have the same side length, as well as a first and a second bottom part, which can be aligned essentially perpendicularly to the side wall parts and can be folded between the side wall parts, which are each hinged to two side wall parts. The invention is characterized in that each of the two base parts has three fold lines, by means of which the base parts can be folded in four layers between the side wall parts, at least in certain sections. According to a variant, it is possible that the two base parts cover the entire base area of the packaging, but are only hinged to four of the eight side wall parts, as is described in a similar way in DE 102019 004490.8.

This creates a pack that can be folded flat and has a very large volume--relative to the area requirement defined by its outer contours--because it has many degrees of freedom, among other things, in the choice of the length of the individual side wall parts. The packaging according to the invention can also be transported folded up and unfolded without an erection aid, since it unfolds automatically due to the triple fold by means of the three fold lines and thus without manual support when pressure is applied to the two opposite side edges. However, the packaging according to the invention is at the same time dimensionally stable and can be manufactured inexpensively with machine support.

According to various embodiments, the foldability of the packaging according to the invention can be improved with various measures. This is possible, inter alia, if the three fold lines are formed from two counter-grooves and one main groove located between the counter-grooves. A further improvement results when the main grooving of the first floor part is parallel to the main grooving of the second floor part. It can also be advantageous if the first base part and the second base part are at least essentially point-symmetrical to one another and a first counter-grooving of the first base part is parallel to a first counter-grooving of the second base part, and a second counter-grooving of the first base part is parallel to a second counter-grooving of the second bottom part is.

An advantageous embodiment is given when a third base part and a fourth base part are provided, each with a fold line, the first base part being hinged to the first side wall part and the fourth side wall part, the second base part being hinged to the fifth side wall part and the eighth side wall part, the third floor part is hinged to the second side wall part and the third side wall part adjacent thereto; and the fourth floor part is hinged to the sixth side wall part and the seventh side wall part adjacent thereto. This embodiment with four base parts is particularly easy to manufacture and can be unfolded very easily. Since each of the four base parts is connected to two side wall parts or articulated on these side wall parts and thus there are no side wall parts that are not connected to a bottom part, the packaging according to the invention is also very stable.

The foldability of the aforementioned embodiment can be further improved if the main groove and a second counter-groove of the first base part are parallel to one another and parallel to the main groove and to a second counter-groove of the second base part.

A further advantageous embodiment is provided when a third base part and a fourth base part, each with one fold line, and a fifth base part with three fold lines are provided, the third base part being hinged to the second side wall part and a first section of the third side wall part adjacent to the second side wall part , the first floor part is hinged to the first side wall part and a second section of the third side wall part, the fourth floor part is hinged to the sixth side wall part and a first section of the seventh side wall part adjacent to the sixth side wall part, the second floor part is hinged to the fifth side wall part and a second section of the seventh side wall part is hinged and the fifth floor part is hinged to the fourth side wall part and the fourth side wall part diagonally opposite the eighth side wall part. The respective first and second sections of the third and seventh side wall parts do not necessarily have to make up the entire length of these side wall parts. This embodiment with five base parts can also be unfolded very easily. Since each of the five base parts is connected to two side wall parts or is hinged to these side wall parts and therefore there are no side wall parts that are not connected to a base part, the packaging according to the invention is also very stable. The stability is further increased by the fact that the fifth floor part is connected to diagonally opposite side wall parts and two of the side wall parts (in a respective first section) are not only connected via a floor part to an adjacent side wall part, but that they are connected in a respective second Section on another floor part are also connected to a "next but one" side wall part.

The foldability of the aforementioned embodiment can be further improved by suitably designing the respective fold lines. This includes when the three fold lines of the fifth bottom part are formed from two counter-grooves and one main groove located between the counter-grooves, the main groove and a first counter-groove of the fifth bottom part being parallel to one another and parallel to the main groove of the first bottom part and to the main groove of the second bottom part; if the second counter-groove of the fifth floor part is parallel to the two side wall parts; and/or if the fold line of the third base part and the fold line of the fourth base part each run on the bisecting line between the second side wall part and the third side wall part or the sixth side wall part and the seventh side wall part.

The expression "at least substantially point-symmetrical" is intended to mean that there is no exact point symmetry in the arrangement of the side wall parts and/or the base parts arrives, but that, for example, the respective angles to adjacent side wall parts are designed in such a way that the packaging can be laid flat and unfolded again without any problems. For example, one or more side wall parts could be rounded “on one side” without this finding a point-symmetrical equivalent “on the other side”.

When the package of the invention is laid flat, it can generally be unfolded by simply squeezing the two opposite edges where the fold lines are located, without any further manipulation. It goes without saying that the respective base parts must be designed accordingly and articulated to the relevant side wall parts for this purpose.

To facilitate the further explanation, directional and orientation information relates to a surface assumed to be horizontal here, for example, on which an unfolded packaging is placed.

1a and 1b show two exemplary embodiments of respective rings 20 of a packaging 10 according to the invention. In the exemplary embodiment of FIG 28 provided, as for example corresponds to the standard CP 1 format. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1b, on the other hand, four long side wall parts 21, 23, 25 and 27 of the same length and four short side wall parts 22, 24, 26 and 28 of the same length are provided, as corresponds to the standard CP 3 format, for example. In both embodiments, the side wall part 24 also appends a small side wall part 29 which is to be connected to the side wall part 25 in order to close the ring 20.

2a and 2b show schematic top views of two variants of a first embodiment of unfolded packaging 10 according to the invention with an octagonal outline. In this first embodiment, four bottom parts 31 to 34 are provided, the two larger bottom parts 31 and 32 being point symmetrical relative to each other with respect to the midpoint of the plan of the package 10 and also the two smaller bottom parts 33 and 34 being point symmetrical relative to each other. It goes without saying that minor deviations from the strict point symmetry - such as are required for locking two adjacent floor parts - can exist, as long as they do not impair the foldability of the floor parts. For the sake of simplicity, the side wall parts 21 to 28 are not shown, but only the surfaces with the respective reference numbers on which these side wall parts are to lie so that they can be connected to the respective bottom flaps A to D of the bottom parts 31 to 34, such as will be described later.

In the variant of Fig. 2a, two side wall parts 21, 25 are longer than two further (medium or medium-length) side wall parts 23, 27, and these four side wall parts are longer than the other four side wall parts 22, 24, 26 and 28. These aspect ratios are typical for the standard format CP 1 (1200 mm x 1000 mm). In the variant of FIG. 2b, four side wall parts 21, 23, 25 and 27 are longer than the other four side wall parts 22, 24, 26 and 28. These aspect ratios are typical for the standard CP 3 format (1140 mm×1140 mm).

The bottom parts 31 to 34 are shown-delimited by thick solid lines-so that they each seamlessly adjoin one another. However, the base portions may also overlap or be narrower from one side wall portion to the other or only taper between the side wall portions if a tightness of the base is not required and a corresponding reduction in the stability of the package is acceptable. The creases or fold lines, which allow the bottom parts to be folded, are each indicated with a thin solid line. The center or midpoint of the plan of the package 10 is denoted by the reference character M. The surfaces on which the respective side wall parts come to rest, on which corresponding bottom flaps of the bottom parts can be glued or fastened, are denoted by thin, solid double lines. Unless expressly stated otherwise, these drawing conventions apply to all figures.

According to FIG. 2a, this first embodiment of the packaging 10 according to the invention has two bottom parts 31 and 32 adjacent to one another. The first floor part 31 is articulated by means of a floor strap C to a first side wall part 21 and by means of a floor strap D to a fourth side wall part 24 . The second floor part 32 arranged point-symmetrically to the first floor part 31 is articulated by means of a floor strap C to a fifth side wall part 25 and by means of a floor strap D to an eighth side wall part 28 . The third, much smaller, base part 33 is articulated by means of base straps A and B on the second side wall part 22 and on the third side wall part 23, respectively. The fourth floor part 34, which is arranged point-symmetrically to the third floor part 33, is articulated by means of floor straps A and B on the sixth side wall part 26 and on the seventh side wall part 27, respectively.

The third floor part 33 has a fold line 36 and the fourth floor part 34 has a fold line 37 . The two folding lines 36 and 37 each run on the bisecting line between the side wall parts 22 and 23 or 26 and 27, to which the bottom flaps A and B are attached. The first floor panel 31 has three fold lines 71-73 and the second floor panel 32 has three fold lines 74-76. The two fold lines 72 and 75 are each main grooves, and the respective pairs of fold lines 71 and 73 and 74 and 76 are associated counter-grooves for the main grooves 72 and 75, respectively. The counter-grooves 71 and 74 and the two fold lines 36 and 37 are parallel to one another. In addition, the two main grooves 72 and 75 and the two counter-grooves 73 and 76 are parallel to one another. With this construction, the package 10 can be folded along a line extending between the bottom flaps A and B, respectively. It goes without saying that with this folding, a four-layer arrangement of the first and second base part 31, 32 is achieved in certain areas. It can be seen that such a packaging 10 is very flexible with regard to the possible design of the different lengths of the side wall parts 21 to 28 and the associated base parts 31 to 34 and thus allows many different designs of the packaging 10 .

Such packaging can optimally utilize rectangular storage areas such as pallets, since they can have a higher volume than the packaging known from the prior art.

The above statements apply analogously to the packaging 10 shown in FIG. 2b, the "long" side wall parts 21 and 25 and the "medium-length" side wall parts 23 and 27 being of the same length. Such packaging can optimally utilize square storage areas such as pallets, since they can have a higher volume than the packaging known from the prior art.

In the following, parts that have the same reference symbols denote parts with the same or with an equivalent function. Unless expressly stated otherwise, the above statements also apply to the embodiments and variants described below.

3a and 3b show schematic top views of two variants of a second embodiment of unfolded packaging 10 according to the invention with an octagonal outline. In this second embodiment, five bottom parts 41 to 45 are provided, the two larger bottom parts 41 and 42 being point-symmetrical relative to one another with respect to the midpoint of the plan of the package 10 and also the two smaller bottom parts 43 and 44 being point-symmetrical relative to one another. The fifth floor part 45 extends diagonally across the floor plan of the packaging 10. Similar to Fig. 2a, this floor plan corresponds to the standard format CP 1.

In this second embodiment of the packaging 10 according to the invention, the third base part 43 is hinged to a second side wall part 22 by means of a base flap A and to a first section 23a of a first side wall part 23 adjacent to the second side wall part 22 by means of a base flap B. Similarly, the fourth floor part 44 is articulated by means of a floor strap A on a sixth side wall part 26 and by means of a floor strap B on a first section 27a of a seventh side wall part 27 adjacent to the sixth side wall part 26 . The first floor part 41 is articulated by means of a floor strap C on a first side wall part 21 and by means of a floor strap D on a second section 23a of the third side wall part 23 . Similarly, the second bottom part 42 is connected to a fifth side wall part 25 and 25 by means of a bottom flap C articulated to a second section 27b of the seventh side wall part 27 by means of a bottom flap D. As shown in FIG. 3a, the sum of the lengths of the bottom flaps B and D is equal to the length of the side wall parts 23 and 27, but it can also be less than the length thereof. The fifth floor part 45 is articulated by means of a floor strap E on a side wall part 24 and by means of a floor strap F on an eighth side wall part 28 diagonally opposite the side wall part 24 .

The third floor part 43 has a fold line 46 and the fourth floor part 44 has a fold line 47 . The two fold lines 46 and 47 each run on the bisecting line between the side wall parts 22 and 23 or 26 and 27, to which the bottom flaps A and B are attached. The first floor panel 41 has three fold lines 81-83 and the second floor panel 42 has three fold lines 84-86. The fifth floor part 45 has three fold lines 87-89. The three folding lines 82, 85 and 88 are each main grooves, and the respective pairs of folding lines 81, 83 and 84, 86 and 87, 89 are associated counter-grooves for the main grooves 82, 85 and 88. The three main grooves 82, 85 and 88 and the counter-groove 87 are parallel to one another, and the four counter-grooves 81, 83, 84, 86 are also parallel to one another. In addition, the two fold lines 46 and 47 are parallel to each other. With this construction, the package 10 can be folded along a line extending between the bottom flaps A and B, respectively. It goes without saying that with this folding, a four-layer arrangement of the first and second base parts 41, 42 and of the fifth base part 45 is also achieved in some areas. It can be seen that such a packaging 10 is also very flexible with regard to the possible design of the different lengths of the side wall parts 21 to 28 and the associated base parts 41 to 45 and thus allows many different designs of the packaging 10 .

The above statements apply analogously to the packaging 10 shown in FIG. 3b, the "long" side wall parts 21 and 25 and the "medium-length" side wall parts 23 and 27 being of the same length. Similar to the embodiments described in FIGS. 2a/b, such packaging can optimally utilize rectangular or configured storage areas such as pallets, since they can have a higher volume compared to the packaging known from the prior art.

Fig. 10a and Fig. 10b show the second base part 32 and the fourth base part 34 of the first embodiment in various folded states, starting from the appearance immediately after punching out (and making the creases) to the folded state in which the relevant base part is between the corresponding side wall parts can be glued on. Fig. 11a, Fig. 11b and Fig. 11c show the fifth base part 45, the second base part 42 and the fourth base part 44 of the second embodiment in various folded states, starting from the appearance immediately after punching out (and making the creases) up to the folded state, in which the bottom part in question can be glued between the corresponding side wall parts. It is understood that the order of the folding steps in FIGS. 10a, 11a and 11b can deviate from the order shown. 12b shows, by way of example, the first embodiment in standard format CP 1 and CP 3, and FIG. 12c, also by way of example, the first embodiment in euro format (1200 mm×800 mm). It is clear that the respective embodiments can be designed as even more oblong rectangles with corresponding angular configurations. The embodiments presented above and their variants can be manufactured with exactly the stated aspect and angle ratios of the side wall parts and the bottom parts with their respective fold lines. However, apart from the respective size ratios, extensive changes in these side and angle ratios are of course possible.

It should be noted that the floor parts illustrated above can each be designed to overlap one another, as is well known. In addition, they can have suitable slits and configurations that allow mutual locking in the unfolded state—and, if necessary, unlocking.

The above description assumes that the packaging is made of corrugated cardboard. However, it can also be made of other materials, such as paper or plastic.

It should be noted that due to the essentially given point symmetry of the side wall parts with respect to the center point of the floor plan, there is only an even number of side wall parts in each case. Accordingly, the present invention also includes packages with ten, twelve or even more side wall parts. As already mentioned, however, the point symmetry can also be eliminated at certain points, for example by a single side wall part being rounded or the like.

It should be noted that the features of the invention described with reference to individual embodiments, such as bottom parts and bottom flaps, side wall parts, side wall part sections and fold lines, can also be present in other embodiments, unless otherwise stated or prohibited for technical reasons . In addition, of such features of individual embodiments described in combination, not all features necessarily always have to be implemented in a relevant embodiment.

Claims

PATENT CLAIMS:

1. Lay-flat, volume-optimized packaging (10), preferably made of corrugated cardboard, with a prism-shaped outline, formed from at least eight side wall parts (21-28) connected to one another, preferably formed from a single piece, connected to form a ring (20), of which two in are substantially parallel to each other and have the same side length; and a first and a second base part (31, 32; 41, 42) which can be aligned essentially perpendicularly to the side wall parts (21-28) and can be folded between the side wall parts (21-28) and which are each attached to two side wall parts (21-28) are hinged; characterized in that each of the two bottom parts (31, 32; 41, 42) has three fold lines (71-73, 74-76; 81-83, 84-86) by means of which the bottom parts (31, 32; 41, 42 ) can be folded at least in sections into four layers between the side wall parts (21-28).

2. Packaging (10) according to claim 1, characterized in that the three folding lines (71-73, 74-76; 81-83, 84-86) consist of two counter-grooves (71, 73, 74, 76; 81, 83, 84, 86) and a main groove (72, 75; 82, 85) located between the counter grooves (71, 73, 74, 76; 81, 83, 84, 86).

3. Packaging (10) according to claim 2, characterized in that the main grooves (72; 82) of the first base part (31; 41) are parallel to the main grooves (75; 85) of the second base part (32; 42).
