  • the coupling apparatus 1 of the present invention forms what is known in the art as a “gripping fitting”, and is provided to be used with a number differing types of adjoining pipeline sections.
  • Figure le illustrates an example where the pipeline sections 3, 5 are formed as socket spigot pipes and the ends of which are joined and retained together by the apparatus 1 , whose end portions 15, 17 grip and retain respective ends of the pipeline sections 3, 5 to provide an “end restraint”, or “end loading”, thereby enabling the pipeline to resist the possibility of the same being hydraulically forced apart and/or linearly separated.
  • the coupling 1 can be fitted over socket spigot joints in areas where thrust is an issue, and an end restraint is needed.
  • the present invention therefore provides and improved coupling apparatus 1 which serves to hold two pipeline sections 3, 5 together at their interface in an abutting, overlapping or otherwise adjoining relationship.
  • the provision of annular teeth 21 which can bite or protrude into the exterior surface of the pipeline sections greatly improves the grip the coupling apparatus 1 can exert on the pipeline sections 3, 5, preventing any slippage. Further, by providing the teeth 21 to be angled centrally and towards the interface of the pipeline sections 3, 5, this further helps to prevent linear separation of those sections, maintaining the pipeline intact and preventing any leaking of material therefrom.
