Description
- The invention lies in the field of lateral guides for screen devices for rolling screens. The invention also comprises methods for mounting or removing the lateral guide.
- Rolling screens are typically installed as sun protection or roller shutters on windows or doors. To secure the screen and guard it, this is typically placed in a screen device, which can be secured to a wall or in a case. Both for built-in, positioning systems and structural systems, there must be access to the screen device to perform maintenance work, such as replacing damaged parts.
- Traditionally, screen rollers of these types of screen devices are removed by tilting the screen roller such that a sharp angle is formed between the longitudinal direction of the parallel lateral guides and the longitudinal direction of the screen roller. Thus, the screen roller can be determined by provision in the space by the frame of the screen device and between the lateral guides. Then the screen roller is tilted again such that the lateral sides of the screen roller are located in a lateral guide and a right angle is formed between the longitudinal direction of the parallel lateral guides and the longitudinal direction of the screen roller. Then the screen roller can be put into the case via only movements in the longitudinal direction of the lateral guides. To remove the screen rollers of this type of screen device, the aforementioned steps are undertaken in reverse order.
- A similar method is known, for example, from
Figure 8 of the European patent applicationsEP 2,725,180 ,EP 2,725,181 andEP 3,363,985 . - This objective is achieved, according to the invention, with a system that displays the technical characteristics of the first independent claims. For this, the current invention is a lateral guide for a screen device for rolling screens. In particular, the invention provides for a lateral guide for a screen device to which a rolling screen can be attached. The invention also comprises methods for mounting or removing the lateral guide.
- In the first aspect of the invention, which can occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, the invention has a screen mechanism for a rolling screen, consisting of a frame with a protective case and at least one lateral guide; and a screen roller and a screen on it that is secured to the screen roller on one of its sides.
The lateral guide has a frame profile that extends in a longitudinal direction from one lower side of the protective case and at least one screen profile that extends in the longitudinal direction from one lower side of the protective case. The frame profile has a width that is mainly consistent with the width of the lower side of the protective case. The lateral guide also has an installation state when the frame profile is free of at least one screen profile and a working state when at least one screen profile is connected to the frame profile. In the installation state the frame profile defines an installation passage for passage of the screen roller in the longitudinal direction of the lateral guide from the lateral side and in the working state, the lateral guide defines the screen profile passage for passage of the screen from the lateral sides during rolling up and down of the screen. Preferably, the installation passage is determined by the frame profile and the screen profile passage is determined by at least one screen profile, and even more preferably the at least one screen profile has two connectible screen profiles that together define the screen profile passage in the working state. An installation passage as used here, refers to a longitudinal space that extends in the longitudinal direction through the frame profile an in cross section has the space overlaps with the frame profile both in the transverse direction and the downward direction. The dimension of the installation passage in the downward direction may vary depending on the position in the transverse direction between a minimum passage depth of the installation passage a one of the various maximum passage depths of the installation passage differing from the minimum passage depth. - In the installation state, the lateral guide has at least one passage opening to receive the lateral sides of the screen roller and to guide them in the installation passage when the screen roller is moved in the transverse direction or in the downward direction. Because the access opening is accessible via multiple transverse directions perpendicular to each other, the screen roller can be installed in the installation passage from any of these transverse directions. Thus, the screen roller, in addition to the traditional manner via the access opening on the inside of the lateral guide, can also be inserted via an access opening on the front of the lateral guide into the installation passage. In this it is not necessary to place the screen roller in the area determined by the frame of the screen device before insertion. As a result, it is then not necessary to tilt the screen roller. Instead of this, the installer can hold the screen roller parallel and insert it via the access openings facing him by moving the screen roller in the transverse direction.
An additional advantage is that the placement of the lateral guide, in particular the frame profile, against a window frame can be done more easily. Because the installation passage is accessible in the transverse direction to the installer, the fixation equipment, such as screws, nails and bolts, and tools, such as screwdrivers, hammers and electric tools, can extend in the transverse direction and be moved, as shown infigure 8 . This is in contrast to the current lateral guides that only allow for elongated objects to be inserted at an angle to the transverse direction to install against the window frame. - In the working state, the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage and at least one screen profile together form a mainly rectangular profile. A mainly rectangular profile as used here refers to a profile with a mainly rectangular perimeter in cross section. Preferably, the frame profile and at least one screen profile together form a mainly rectangular profile. Because a mainly rectangular profile is formed, one gets a good finish where the at least one access opening is mainly closed off by the at least one screen profile that can also function as a contact point for a bordering section of wall. Two side walls of the mainly rectangular profile can extend mainly in parallel with the downward direction and a front and back wall of the mainly rectangular profile can mainly extend parallel to the transverse direction. The two side walls of the mainly rectangular profile can each mainly be formed by one of the following profiles: the frame profile and at least one screen profile, wherein the profile parts of the frame profile and at least one screen profile form the side walls in the working state and have approximately the same depth. The at least one screen profile can overlap in the transverse direction and in the downward direction with the at least one access opening.
- Another embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein, in the working state, the at least one screen profile defines the screen profile passage. Another embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the at least one screen profile has at least two connectible screen profiles that together define the screen profile passage in the working state.
- Another embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein two sides of the mainly rectangular profile are at least partially formed by the at least one screen profile. In an additional embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, there is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the at least one screen profile has orthogonal legs that together form the mainly L-shaped profile part, wherein, in the working state, a first leg forms the first of the two sides. Preferably the first leg forms the first side for at least 60 %, 70 %, 80 % or 90 %.
- A second embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the first leg extends in the downward direction to a free end that, in the working state, is turned toward the frame profile such that the first side is partially formed by (a first leg of) the at least one screen profile, preferably a free end of the frame profile.
- A third embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein a hook-shaped profile section extends from the inside of the first leg and is designed to work together with a coupling element that extends from the inside of the frame profile.
- A fourth embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein in the working state, a second leg of the legs and a mainly U-shaped profile part of the lateral guide that defines the screen profile passage, together form the second of the two sides. Preferably the second and the U-shaped profile part leg form the second side for at least 60 %, 70 %, 80 % or 90 %.
- In a second aspect of the invention, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein at least one access opening is provided in the frame profile such that, in the installed position, the installation passage opens out in the at least one access opening in the transverse direction.
- A fifth embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the dimension of the access opening in the downward direction is greater than 50% of the maximum dimension of the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage in the downward direction, which is preferably greater than 60 %, 70 %, 80 % or 90 % of the maximum dimension of the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage in the downward direction.
- A sixth embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the at least one access opening extends over at least 10% of the total length of the frame profile in the longitudinal direction, preferably at least 20%, 30 %, 40 %, 50 % , 60%, 70%, 80% 90% or 100% of the total length of the frame profile in the longitudinal direction.
- In a third aspect of the invention, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the frame profile has walls perpendicular to each other so that together they form a mainly L-shaped profile part that is at least partially bordering the installation passage. The mainly L-shaped profile consists of a first wall and a second wall that respectively extend into the perpendicular depth direction and transverse direction, wherein in the cross section, the first wall extends in the depth direction to a first free end and the second wall extends in the transverse direction to a second free end. The dimensions of the second wall in the depth direction varies depending on the position in the transverse direction between a minimum wall depth and a maximum wall depth differing from the minimum wall depth, wherein the maximum wall depth is smaller than half of the maximum dimensions of the first wall in the depth direction.
- A seventh embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the maximum wall depth is smaller than 40% of the maximum depth of the first wall, preferably smaller than 30% of the maximum depth of the first wall, and even more preferable smaller than 20% of the maximum depth of the first wall.
- An eighth embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the second wall has a distal wall section that extends in the transverse direction to the second free end. The depth of the distal wall section is smaller than approximately the average depth of the second wall. Another embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is an aforementioned screen device, wherein the depth of the distal wall section is equal to the minimum depth of the second wall.
- In a fourth aspect of the invention, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, involves a method for installing or removing a screen roller in an aforementioned screen device, consisting of the step of allowing passage of a lateral side of the screen roller into the installation passage by moving the screen roller in the transverse direction.
- A ninth embodiment, which may occur in combination with the other aspects and embodiments of the invention described herein, is in regard to an aforementioned method, wherein during the insertion of the lateral side of the screen roller in the installation passage, the screen roller is held parallel to the protective case and/or, during the insertion of the lateral side of the screen roller in the installation passage, the longitudinal direction of the screen roller, the longitudinal direction of the frame profile and the movement direction are perpendicular.
- The invention will be explained in more detail using a design shown in the figure.

The figures described are only schematic and non-limiting. In the figures, the size of certain element is exaggerated and not drawn to scale for illustrative purposes. The dimensions and the relative dimensions are not necessarily consistent with actual practical designs of the invention.
- In addition, the terms first, second, third and the like are used in the description and claims to differentiate between similar elements and not necessarily to describe a sequential or chronological sequence. The terms are interchangeable under fitting circumstances and the designs of the invention can be applied in sequences other than those described or illustrated here.
- In addition, the terms, top, bottom, over, under and the like in the description and claims are used for illustrative purposes and not necessarily to describe relative positions. The terms used are interchangeable under fitting circumstances and the designs of the invention described can be applied in other orientations than described or illustrated here.
- Furthermore, the various designs, even though called "preferred designs" must be considered rather as a manner of example of how the invention can be designed than as a limitation of the range of the invention.
- The term "encompassing", used in the claims, must not be interpreted as being limited to the resources or steps listed after it. The term does not exclude other elements or steps. The term should be interpreted as specifying for the presence of the listed features, elements, steps or components which are referenced, but does not exclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, elements, steps or components or groups thereof. The range of the expression "a design encompassing resources A and B" must thus not be limited to designs that consist only of A and B. The intention is that, with regard to the current invention, only the components A and B of the design are summarized, and the claim must be further interpreted as they also contain equivalents of these components.
- The systems shown in the figures are screen devices or elements thereof for installing a rolling screen. A screen device usually comprises a screen roller case and two lateral guides. The screen is usually made of a flexible medium such as cloth that can be rolled up or down; examples of suitable screen materials for the current invention are woven textile, fibreglass, plastic membrane or film etc. The screen is typically attached to the screen roller on one side, so the screen can be rolled up over the screen roller. The screen can be attached to the two lateral guides using a screen profile. The lateral guides typically form a profile along which the screen can be guided when rolling up or down.
- A profile as used here refers to a rigid and preferably oblong body, typically used to box in a frame. Depending on the desired embodiment, a profile can be round or flat, with a wide or narrow wall, hollow inside or filled with a filler material, ribbed or smooth, and/or have ornamental finishes; the advantages and disadvantages of the various profile embodiments are assumed to be known to the professional. The profiles are typically made of a rigid material. This may be metal, for example, preferably aluminium. Aluminium has many advantages as a profile material. It is namely simultaneously robust and light, has good weather resistance and requires little maintenance. Other materials are also suitable and the benefits and disadvantages of these are assumed to be known to the professional.
-
Figure 1-4C show ascreen device 1 according to an embodiment of the current invention. Thescreen device 1 has a mainly rectangular frame formed by anelongated screen case 2 on the top and a left and rightlateral guide 3, 4 that extend below and on the sides of the protective case. Eachlateral guide 3, 4 extends in its length from a respective bulkhead of theprotective case 2. Thescreen device 1 also has ascreen roller 5 and ascreen 7 rolling up and down from this screen roller that is attached on one of its sides to thescreen roller 5. - Each
lateral guide 3, 4 has anoblong frame profile 10, 10' and a first and secondelongated screen profile free end 12 and asecond wall 13 that mainly extends in the transverse direction T from the common origin to a secondfree end 15. The term "depth" as used here refers to the dimension in the depth direction D and the term "breadth" as used here refers to the dimension in the transverse direction T. - Through the presence of a number of
internal coupling elements distal wall section 14 with a mainly constant depth that extends in the transverse direction T to the second free end, wherein this mainly constant depth can be smaller than the average depth of the second wall. Preferably, the depth of the distal wall section is equal to the minimum depth of the second wall. This creates a mainly L-shaped end section formed by the distal wall section extending in the transverse direction T and aninternal coupling element 18 extending in the depth direction D. - The screen device shown has an installed position when the frame profile and the screen profiles are detached from each other and in a working state when the frame profile and the screen profile are connected. This creates, in the installed position, a first passage for installing and removing the screen roller and in the working state, a second passage for rolling the screen up and down. The first passage is partially formed by a left and/or right installation passage for the passage of a
screen roller 5 in the longitudinal direction L and insertion or removal of a lateral side 6 in the transverse direction B. The respective installation passage can be determined by the frame profile of the respective lateral guide. The second passage is partially formed by a left and/or right screen profile passage for passing through alateral side 8 of thescreen 7 in the longitudinal direction L using a screen guide 40. The respective screen profile passage can be determined by the first and second screen profiles of the respective lateral guide. - Between the free ends of the frame profile there is an access opening provided for allowing passage of and removing the lateral sides of the screen roller in the installation passage. The access opening forms an L-shaped opening such that the lateral sides of the screen roller can be inserted into the installation opening via both of the longitudinal directions. An L-shaped opening such as used here refers to an opening that extends in the transverse direction T and which extends in the depth direction D and of which the projections in both directions together form an L. The depth of the access opening can be greater than 50% of the maximum depth of the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage.
- The elongated screen profile is formed by a mainly L-shaped profile that extends into the lateral guide in the longitudinal direction L. The second elongated screen profile is formed by a mainly U-shaped profile that extends in the longitudinal direction L from the lateral guide. Depending on how the screen profiles are connected, these L-shaped and U-shaped profiles may partially run into each other, such as is shown, the first elongated screen profile may also form part of a U-shaped profile.
- In the working state, the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage and the first and second screen profiles together form a mainly rectangular profile. Two sides of the mainly rectangular profile are at least partially formed by the first mainly L-shaped screen profile. The first longitudinal screen profile has parallel legs that together form a mainly L-shaped profile, wherein a
first leg 21 of the legs standing on each other mainly forms the first of the two sides. The first leg extends in the depth direction D to afree leg end 22 that is facing the frame profile. Preferably the free leg end is located in the space determined by the L-shaped end section of the second wall. The first leg is also equipped with a hook-shapedcoupling element 25 that is formed to work together with a protruding coupling element of the frame profile. In addition, asecond leg 23 of the legs standing on top of each other form a mainly U-shaped profile of thesecond screen profile 30 together form the second of the two sides. The mainly U-shaped profile section can partially be formed by amiddle wall section 24 of the second leg and amiddle wall section 31 of thesecond screen profile 30. -
Figures 5-17 show various steps of a method for installing the screen device on a window frame or other underlying structure. The screen device during the first step of an installation method is shown infigures 5-8 . First the frame of thescreen device 1 is provided in the cavity that extends in the surface in front of thewindow frame 100. Preferably, theprotective case 2 is installed first and then attached to theframe profile 10, 10' on the left and right lateral guides 3, 4 usingcomplimentary connectors 9. Eachframe profile 10, 10' is secured to the underlying window frame using a number ofscrews 50. As shown infigures 7 and 8 , it is possible to reach thefirst wall 11 of the frame profile usinglong tools 60 and to screw in thescrew 50 vertically into the underlying window frame. -
Figures 9-11 show the screen device during a second step of the installation method. After the frame has been installed, thescreen roller 5 is inserted into the protective case. In a first partial step S1, the lateral sides of the screen roller are installed in opposite installation passages of the left and right lateral guides by moving the screen roller in the transverse direction T. The lateral sides are inserted into the installation passages of respective access openings that partially extend in the depth direction D and allow objects to move through the access openings in the transverse direction B. In this, thescreen roller 5 is held parallel to the screen case and/or the depth direction D. In a second partial step S2 the screen roller inserted into the installation passage is moved in the longitudinal direction L into the protective case. -
Figures 12-14 show the screen device during a third step of the installation method. After thescreen roller 5 is in theprotective case 2, in eachlateral guide 3, 4 a second,innermost screen profile 30, 30' is installed near thefirst wall 11 of theframe profile 10. Thesecond screen profile 30, 30' is put into the installation passage and in a third partial step S3 thesecond screen profile 30, 30' is inserted into the installation passage in the transverse direction T and moved to thefirst wall 11. -
Figures 15-17 show the screen device during a fourth step of the installation method. After the second,innermost screen profile 30, 30' is in eachlateral guide 3, 4, in eachlateral guide 3, 4, a first,outermost screen profile 20, 20' is installed and connected to the second,innermost screen profile 30, 30' and theframe profile 10, 10'. The first,outermost screen profile 20, 20'. The hook-shapedprofile section 25 of the first,outermost screen profile 20, 20' is connected to thecomplimentary coupling element 18 of theframe profile 10, 10'. Then the first,outermost screen profile profile section 25 and thecomplimentary coupling element 18 until the innermost an outermost screen profiles 20, 30 are connected to each other. The innermost and outermost screen profiles 20, 30 can also be connected to each other using coupling elements such as a screw. - The embodiment shown in
figures 12-17 is consistent with the embodiment shown infigure 4B , which is set up to roll the screen on the inside. Analogously, the embodiment shown infigure 4C can also be formed, which is set up to roll the screen on the outside -

Claims (18)
- Screen device for a screen rollable onto and unrollable from a screen roller, comprising a frame with a protective case and at least one lateral guide; and a screen roller and a screen rollable onto and unreliable from said screen roller and attached on one of its sides to the screen roller,said lateral guide comprising:a frame profile that extends in a longitudinal direction (L) from one lower side of the protective case and at least one screen profile that extends in the longitudinal direction (L) from one lower side of the protective case; andan installation state when the frame profile is free of at least one screen profile and a working state when at least one screen profile is connected to the frame profile,wherein the frame profile has a breadth (b) that is mainly consistent with the breadth (b') of the lower side of the protective case; and, in the installation state, an installation passage for allowing passage of the lateral side of the screen roller in the longitudinal direction, and wherein the lateral guide in the working state has a screen profile passage for allowing passage of the lateral side of the screen,characterised in, that in the installation state the lateral guide has at least one access opening for the orthogonal transverse insertion or removal of the lateral sides of the screen roller in the installation passage, the transverse directions encompassing the orthogonal transverse direction (T) and depth direction (D) transverse to the longitudinal direction (L) andthat, in the working state, the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage and at least one screen profile together form a mainly rectangular profile.
- Screen device according to claim 1, wherein two sides of the mainly rectangular profile are at least partially formed by the at least one screen profile.
- Screen device according to claim 2, wherein the at least one screen profile has orthogonal legs that together form the mainly L-shaped profile part, wherein, in the working state, a first leg forms the first of the two sides.
- Screen device according to claim 3, wherein the first leg extends in the depth direction (D) to a free end in the working state, which is facing the frame profile.
- Screen device according to claim 3 or claim 4, wherein a hook-shaped profile section extends from the inside of the first leg and is designed to work together with a coupling element that extends from the inside of the frame profile.
- Screen device according to one of the previous claims 3-5, wherein in the working state, a second leg of the orthogonal legs and a mainly U-shaped profile part of the lateral guide that defines the screen profile passage, together form the second of the two sides.
- Screen device according to one of the previous claims, wherein in the working state, the at least one screen profile defines the screen profile passage.
- Screen device according to claim 7, wherein the at least one screen profile has two connectible screen profiles that together define the screen profile passage in the working state.
- Screen profile according to one of the previous claims, wherein an at least one access opening is present in the frame profile in such a way that in the transverse directions (T, D), the installation passage opens up into the at least one access opening.
- Screen device according to claim 9, wherein the dimension wherein the dimension of the access opening in the downward direction (D) is greater than 50% of the maximum dimension of the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage in the downward direction (D), which is preferably greater than 60 %, 70 %, 80 % or 90 % of the maximum dimension of the part of the frame profile bordering the installation passage in the downward direction (D).
- Screen device according to claims 9 or 10, wherein the at least one access opening extends over at least 10% of the total length of the frame profile in the longitudinal direction (L), preferably at least 20%, 30 %, 40 %, 50 %, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% or 100% of the total length of the frame profile in the longitudinal direction (L).
- Screen device according to one of the previous claims, wherein the frame profile has parallel orthogonal walls that together form a mainly L-shaped profile part that borders the installation passage at least partially,wherein, the mainly L-shaped profile consists of a first wall and a second wall that respectively extend into the perpendicular depth direction (D) and transverse direction (T), wherein in the cross section, the first wall extends in the depth direction (D) to a first free end and the second wall extends in the transverse direction (T) to a second free end,wherein the dimensions of the second wall in the depth direction (D) varies depending on the position in the transverse direction between a minimum wall depth and a maximum wall depth differing from the minimum wall depth, wherein the maximum wall depth is smaller than half of the maximum dimensions of the first wall in the depth direction (D).
- Screen device according to claim 12, wherein the maximum wall depth is smaller than 40% of the maximum depth of the first wall, preferably smaller than 30% of the maximum depth of the first wall, and even more preferable smaller than 20% of the maximum depth of the first wall.
- Screen device according to claim 12 or claim 13, wherein the second wall has a distal wall section that extends in the transverse direction (B) to the second free end; and
wherein the depth of the distal wall section smaller than approximately the average depth of the second wall. - Screen device according to claim 14, wherein the depth of the distal wall section is equal to the minimum depth of the second wall.
- Method for installing or removing a screen roller in a screen device according to one of the previous claims, comprising the step of inserting a lateral side of the screen roller into the installation passage by moving the screen roller in the transverse direction (T).
- Method according to claim 16, wherein during the insertion of the lateral side of the screen roller into the installation passage, the screen roller is held parallel to the protective case.
- Method according to claim 16, wherein during the insertion of the lateral side of the screen roller into the installation passage, the longitudinal direction of the screen roller (D), the longitudinal direction of the frame profile (L) and the direction of movement (M) are orthogonal.
