Wenn einer derartigen Holzhackmaschine Holzstämme oder auch die Äste oder Stämme des Buschwerks über eine Einzugseinheit zugeführt werden, werden diese in der Holzhackmaschine zu Spänen bzw. Schnitzeln zerkleinert. Die Länge bzw. Größe der mit einer derartigen Holzhackmaschine erzeugten Späne bzw. Schnitzel hängt einerseits vom Messervorstand der einzelnen Hackmesser ab und andererseits von der Zufuhrgeschwindigkeit des Holzes in die Holzhackmaschine. Es ist offensichtlich, dass es bei einem derartigen Betrieb einer Holzhackmaschine einerseits in bestimmten Abständen erforderlich ist, ins Innere der Maschine zu gelangen, um beispielsweise die Hackmesser auszutauschen, zu schärfen oder den Messervorstand zu kontrollieren oder aber die Maschine zu reinigen oder zu warten.
