Description

Domaine de l'inventionField of the invention

The present invention relates to the field of non-motorized wheelchairs for the elderly or disabled people.

These chairs must be light, very robust and allow easy manual movement.

For this purpose, the chairs generally have two driving side wheels driven by a handrail allowing the user to turn the wheels, possibly at different speeds to steer the chair, and also to brake the chair.

Etat de la techniqueState of the art

We know in the state of the art the French patent FR685706 relating to a freewheel and rear pedal brake hub for tricycles, invalid cars, etc., adapted to enable the wheel to drive in reverse, using a ratchet mechanism interposed between the cycle, etc. a fork and an element carrying the brake band, etc., and adapted to prevent the rotation of this element in the forward direction, but to allow its rotation in the rear direction, with sufficient friction to allow the operation of the brake. The drive chain plate is mounted on a sleeve having a screw thread engaging a member which drives the hub in the forward direction (arrow F) via a ratchet and ratchet mechanism allowing for freewheel action. When pedaling backwards (arrow B), the organ is crossed by the thread to engage its conical clutch part in a cup which, then, tilts a lever around its pivot on a plate, widening a band on contact with 'a brake drum.

This document mainly concerns a wheel for a coaster type cycle with a (single) wheel for a cycle with a fork for a single rear wheel.

A “car for disabled people” designated, in 1929 (date of filing of this patent), a tricycle with a single driving wheel at the rear, driven like a bicycle wheel.

This document never mentions the actuation of the wheel by a handrail (we do not really see where it would be fixed on a “car for disabled people”), nor the use of two wheels (if they were not twinned). but placed on either side of a machine, it could not move forward), and even less the use of two wheels of different structures.

A “car for disabled people” is not comparable to a wheelchair.

We also know the Japanese patent JPH06 165799 describing a wheelchair which stops positively in a position where it is oriented in a direction of progression without braking it mid-incline, allowing the wheelchair to have a back stop function which is simply designed and can be switched slightly. A switch handle is turned counterclockwise when a wheelchair is rolled outdoors or is about to climb an uphill grade. When the wheelchair is located on an incline and the user keeps their hand away from the joystick, a one-way clutch with bearing is firmly engaged, while a wheel hub tends to rotate clockwise. Rotation occurs i.e. the wheel hub can turn counterclockwise, but cannot turn clockwise, preventing the wheelchair from moving backwards. If the switch handle is turned clockwise, a cylindrical claw rides up along the claw of a cylindrical bolt to provide engagement between the ridges of the claws. Additionally, a pin engages a hole in the wheel hub, so the wheel hub is completely separated of a hub shaft and the wheel hub can turn freely again.

This patent describes a solution requiring an actuation lever and does not ensure braking, forward drive and reverse drive by action on the same organ, namely the handrail of each of the driving wheels.

The patent US5027930 describes a coaster brake coupled directly to a drive shaft. A threaded shaft is integrated into the drive shaft. A clutch cone having an internal thread moves in axial directions as it threads in or out of the driver, depending on the rotation of the driver. A brake cone is provided and has a smooth axial bore through which the drive shaft rotates. The axial movement of the clutch cone towards the brake cone has the effect of forcing the brake shoes against the inner wall of the hub. A spring is provided to facilitate the action of the thread between the clutch cone and the driver.

This patent concerns a bicycle with a single driving wheel, without any handrail for the drive.

Inconvénient de l'art antérieurDisadvantage of the prior art

The solutions of the prior art closest to the invention concern non-motorized wheelchairs driven by handrails on which the user exerts repeated pushes. To brake, the user blocks the handrail with the palm of their hand. When the braking torque is high, it is usual for the user to use small jerks to avoid burning the palm of the hand.

Solution apportée par l'inventionSolution provided by the invention

In order to remedy this drawback, the invention relates in its most general sense to a wheelchair comprising a frame and two main driving wheels (in the sense of human drive) each coupled to a handrail for actuating said wheels in both directions of rotation and for braking,
characterized in that said frame is equipped:
  • on the right side relative to the normal direction of movement
    • ∘ a means of connecting a lateral axis locking in the clockwise direction and rotating freely in the counterclockwise direction
    • ∘ the right handrail being mounted free to rotate relative to said lateral axis, without freedom of axial translation
    • ∘ the right wheel being provided with a hub connected to said handrail by a locking connection means in the clockwise direction
    • ∘ said hub comprising means for braking the rotation of said hub relative to said lateral axis, actuated by the anti-clockwise movement of said handrail relative to said lateral axis
  • on the left side relative to the normal direction of movement
    • ∘ a means of connecting a lateral axis blocking in the counterclockwise direction and free to rotate in the clockwise direction
    • ∘ the left handrail being mounted free to rotate relative to said lateral axis, without freedom of axial translation
    • ∘ the left wheel being provided with a hub connected to said handrail by a connecting means blocking in the counterclockwise direction
    • ∘ said hub comprising means for braking the rotation of said hub relative to said lateral axis, actuated by the clockwise movement of said handrail relative to the lateral axis.

The “clockwise” or “counterclockwise” direction is understood when looking at the wheel from outside the chair.

The braking means is in particular ensured by bringing into contact two complementary surfaces in relative movement, for example the conical surface of an axially movable element with a complementary conical surface inside the hub.

According to a variant, said means of connecting the lateral axes with the frame are constituted by free roller wheels.

According to a particular embodiment, said means for connecting the lateral axis with the frame comprises a means for quickly attaching said lateral axis.

Présentation générale du fauteuilGeneral presentation of the chair

The chair has a right wheel (10) and a left wheel (20), relative to the normal direction of movement of the chair.

Each wheel (10, 20) can be operated by a handrail respectively (11, 21). The coupling between the left wheel (20) and the associated left handrail (21) is ensured by a left hub (22) whose operation will be described below. It is the same for the coupling of the right wheel (10) with the right handrail (12), ensured by a right hub.

A shaft (23) passes through the hub (22) of the wheel (20) associated with the handrail (21), as well as the flange (25) secured to the frame (24). The inner end of the shaft (23) is held by a flange (25) containing a roller freewheel, secured to said flange (25).

Description détaillée de la roue droite selon une première variante de réalisationDetailed description of the right wheel according to a first alternative embodiment

There figure 2 represents a detailed view of the wheel according to a first alternative embodiment where the flange containing a roller freewheel is positioned between the wheel and the chair frame.

The flange (15) containing a free wheel (16) with rollers (17)) is fixed to the frame (14) via a rod extending axially from the surface opposite the hub. This rod is screwed to the frame of the chair. It can also be attached using a quick release system. Such a quick attachment system is for example constituted by a rod extending the exterior face of the flange and passing through the frame of the chair. The rod can be retained by a lock actuated by a spring or any other known means.

Cette flasque (15) contient une roue libre (16) à rouleaux (17) autorisant la rotation de l'arbre (13).This flange (15) contains a free wheel (16) with rollers (17) allowing the rotation of the shaft (13).

For the left wheel, the flange (25) contains a free roller wheel allowing the rotation of the shaft (23), integral with the wheel, in the clockwise direction (antitrigonometric direction), but blocking the rotation in the counterclockwise direction, and vice versa for the right wheel.

The free wheel (16) has for this purpose, in a known manner, inclined ramps. The rollers (17) engage between the inclined ramps and the cylindrical interior surface of the flange (15), aided by a return spring acting on a roller cage. The friction between rollers (17) and the free wheel (16) with inclined ramps on the one hand, between rollers (17) and the flange (15) on the other hand, as well as the geometry of the parts, creates the arc -butting providing braking by adhesion. When the shaft (13) turns counterclockwise relative to the flange, the rollers disengage and allow free rotation relative to the flange (15), for the right wheel, and clockwise for the left wheel.

La main courante (11) entraîne la roue (40) munie d'un filetage (43).The handrail (11) drives the wheel (40) provided with a thread (43).

When the mobile assembly (44) is moved axially outwards, its convex conical outer end (41) comes into contact with the concave bearing surface (42) of the hub (12) secured to the wheel (10) and thus ensures a coupling between the handrail (11) and the wheel (10).

When the mobile assembly (44) is moved axially inwards, it ensures the compression of a braking ring (46), the opposite end of which rests on a cone (47) and the outer face of which comes radially exert progressive friction on the hub (12) of the wheel (10).

The characteristics of the hub, in particular the translational travel of the movable element between the two ends, the length of the movable element, and the pitch of the thread are determined so that the movement from one end to the other is obtained by a relative angular travel between the handrail and the associated wheel of approximately 1°, and preferably between 0.1° and 10°, and more preferably between 0.1° and 2°.

According to a variant, a return spring pushes back in the absence of input from the handrail by the user, the latter in its forward position. This spring is for example arranged in the hub to push the movable assembly outwards, in the opposite direction of the chassis. Thus, the mobile assembly (44) is pushed back to rest in a position where the convex conical outer end (41) comes into contact with the concave bearing surface (42) of the hub (12), under the action of 'a spring for example.

Description détaillée de la roue droite selon une deuxième variante de réalisationDetailed description of the right wheel according to a second alternative embodiment

There Figure 3 represents a detailed view of the wheel according to a second alternative embodiment where the flange containing a free wheel with rollers is positioned inside the chair.

The wheel comprises a flange (15) coaxial with the hub (12).

The flange (15) is fixed to the interior surface of the frame (14) of the chair, by welding or by bolts or rivets.

This flange (15) contains a free wheel (16) with rollers (17) allowing the rotation of the shaft (13), integral with the free wheel (16), in the anti-clockwise direction (trigonometric direction), but blocking clockwise rotation for the right wheel.

For the left wheel, the flange (25) contains a free roller wheel allowing the rotation of the shaft (23), integral with the wheel, in the clockwise direction (antitrigonometric direction), but blocking the rotation in the counterclockwise direction to the right wheel.

La main courante (11) entraîne l'arbre (40) munie d'un filetage (43).The handrail (11) drives the shaft (40) provided with a thread (43).

When the mobile assembly (44) is moved outwards, its convex conical outer end (41) comes into contact with the concave bearing surface (42) of the hub (12) integral with the wheel (10) and thus ensures a coupling between the handrail (11) and the wheel (10).

When the mobile assembly (44) is moved axially inwards, it ensures the compression of a braking ring (46), the opposite end of which rests on a cone (47) and the outer face of which radially comes to exert progressive friction on the hub (12) of the wheel (10).

Description détaillée de la roue droite selon une troisième variante de réalisationDetailed description of the right wheel according to a third alternative embodiment

The wheel differs from the first variant in that the flange (15) is fixed to the outer ring of a free wheel (16) with roller (17). The inner ring of the ball freewheel is fixed to the side axle (13).

Variante de réalisation de roues droite à moyeu intégréVariant version of straight wheels with integrated hub

There Figure 5 represents another variant of the system having the advantage of better compactness. The compactness guarantees, among other things, the user's passage through doors.

The kinematics of the system are identical to the variants described previously. The difference in this variant lies in the fact that said connecting means (15) of the lateral axes with the frame are located in an interior recess of the plug (47) closing the hub.

La bague intérieure de ladite roue libre à bille est fixée au cadre, au travers d'un second axe latéral (15)The connection of the lateral axis (13) to the frame is always carried out through a connecting means blocking in the clockwise direction and free to rotate in the counter-clockwise direction. The outer ring of the free wheel (16) with rollers (17) is fixed to an inner face of the plug (47) itself secured to the lateral axis (13). The inner ring of said free ball wheel is fixed to the frame, through a second lateral axis (15)

Adaptation d'un fauteuil existantAdaptation of an existing armchair

The invention also relates to a pair of wheels associated with the aforementioned mechanisms, to allow the transformation of an existing wheelchair.

A particular variation illustrated by the figures 6 and 7 concerns the fixing of the wheels to the frame of the chair by a quick attach system respectively when the wheel is separated from the chair and when the wheel is fixed on the chair.

Such a system is constituted by a rod formed of two coaxial and contiguous sections (100 and 120), the front front end of the section (100) coming into contact with the rear front end of the section (120), the two sections ( 100, 120) being free in relative rotation.

The rod formed in the example described by the two sections (100, 120) is crossed by a coaxial needle (110). This rod can alternatively be made in a single section passing through the entire means of the wheel.

Le premier tronçon (100) traverse le moyen et l'axe creux (13).The first section (100) passes through the means and the hollow axis (13).

The second section (120) passes through the axis of the roller freewheel (16).

The wall of the front end of the section (120) has slots for the passage of balls (104) movable radially between a position where they form a protuberance relative to the exterior surface of the section (120), thus increasing the cross section , and a centripetal position where they disappear. Depending on the position of the balls, the section of the front part of the section (120) allows engagement in a housing of the chair frame with a section complementary to the section of the section (120), when the balls are in the centripetal position, and when the balls are pushed outwards, it ensures the blocking of the section (120) in the frame of the chair.

A needle (110) passes through the two sections (100, 120) and has at its front end an annular groove extended at the front by a frustoconical end part allowing the balls to be pushed back when the needle (110) is engaged. in the inner channel of the rod (100, 120). The annular groove has a radius of curvature complementary to the radius of the balls (104). When this groove is pushed back to the level of the balls, they can move in a centripetal position. At rest, a spring (102) pushes the needle (110) backwards, and the annular groove moves so that the balls are expelled in a centrifugal position by the tubular section of the needle (110).

The quick attachment system is provided with an anti-rotation means, consisting of a tab (150) whose end is intended to be fixed on a fixed part of the wheelchair frame. The end of this tab (150) has a slot for engaging a lug (151) extending the surface of the chair frame.

In the example illustrated by figure 8 , this anti-rotation means is constituted by a flat section of complementary section with that of the front end of the section (120).
