Definitions
- the present invention relates to a timepiece comprising a display mechanism arranged to control the movements of a display member facing an indicator scale comprising different indications having at least two different widths and being separated from each other. by corresponding separation spaces.
- the indications two digits of the date appear particularly close to each other when the date is displayed in a small counter.
- a main object of the present invention is to provide a timepiece offering an alternative presentation with reference to known timepieces in terms of display, in particular improved readability.
- the display associated with the mechanism according to the invention appears more homogeneous and airy than the displays of the prior art and is consequently more readable than the latter.
- the actuating mechanism may comprise a cam against which a feeler is arranged in support, the feeler being kinematically linked to the mobile display, the cam having at least two different slope values along its length in such a way that the mobile display can be driven in rotation according to two different pitch values for the same angle of rotation of the cam as a function of the orientation of the latter with reference to the feeler.
- the actuation mechanism may comprise first and second partner wheels of a non-circular gear or a first partner wheel of a non-circular gear, the display mobile comprising a second wheel partner of the non-circular gear, the first and second partner wheels being arranged in such a way that they mesh with each other with a variable gear ratio, the display mobile being driven in at least two different pitches.
- the display mobile comprises a toothing having at least two different pitches and arranged to cooperate, on the one hand, with an actuating mobile of the actuating mechanism and, on the other hand, with a jumper to maintain the position and/or the orientation of the display member, the teeth being indexed to the position of the indicator scale.
- the actuating wheel set and the jumper are preferably arranged in such a way that the actuating wheel set actuates one of the teeth with which the jumper cooperates, to move the display member.
- the figures 1a and 1b represent a simplified view of a display of a timepiece, respectively according to the state of the art and according to the present invention.
- the picture 1a represents a date counter 106 according to the state of the art, intended to be integrated into a dial of a timepiece.
- Said timepiece comprises in particular a date display mechanism arranged to display the value of the date by controlling the movements of a hand 102 opposite indications 104 arranged along an indicator scale 105, in the counter of date 106.
- a visual examination of the indications 104 shows that they have different widths, which is obvious when comparing in particular the indications relating to the units with those relating to the tens, with those relating to the twenties or even with that relating to the thirties.
- the hand 102 is carried by a calendar wheel (not visible) driven by a finger (not visible) to advance at least one step per day, the finger itself being driven by a mobile of twenty-four hours (not visible).
- a calendar wheel not visible
- a finger not visible
- Such an arrangement allows the hand 102 to advance at a constant pitch (without considering here the case of an annual or perpetual calendar mechanism which would allow the hand 102 to advance several steps in a row at the end of the month less than thirty-one days).
- the different indications 104 are separated by separation spaces 112. It can be seen that the separation spaces 112 do not have the same width between two indications 104 associated with the units and between two indications 104 associated with the scores, for example.
- This conventional feature is in fact intended to ensure that the pitch separating two successive indications 104 is the same all along the indicating scale 105, so that the positions of the indications 104 are correctly associated with the different positions that the needle 102 can occupy due to its standard drive mode.
- Such a display therefore presents a notable difference in the presentation of the date values between the start and the end of the indicator scale, which may not be suitable for everyone from an aesthetic point of view and somewhat reduces readability. in the regions of the scale where the indications 104 are closer together.
- the aesthetic question is also present on a display arranged on the periphery of the dial, unlike the question of readability, these two aspects become more striking as the surface of the display concerned decreases.
- the term "width” designates the dimension of the indication in the direction in which the indicator scale extends, parallel or tangential to the indicator scale depending on whether it extends rectilinearly or curvilinear.
- the indicator scale is circular over an amplitude of 360° and the width of an indication is its dimension in an ortho radial direction. This dimension can be expressed in the form of a distance or an angle in the case of a curvilinear scale.
- the separating spaces represent a dimension measured in the direction in which the indicating scale extends so that the length or angular amplitude of the indicating scale is the sum of the widths of the indications and the spaces of seperation.
- the figure 1b represents a date counter 6 according to the invention, intended to be integrated into a dial of a timepiece.
- said timepiece comprises in particular a date display mechanism arranged to display the value of the date by controlling the movements of a hand 2 facing indications 4 arranged along of an indicator scale 5 in the meter 6.
- the indications 4 also have different widths, as is the case with the indications of the state of the art.
- the separation spaces 12 this time all have substantially the same width, whether this is between two indications 4 associated with the units or between two indications 4 associated with the twenties, for example. A perception that is more pleasing to the eye is thus obtained, due to the regularity of the alternations between the indications 4 and the separation spaces 12 and it is also noted that the readability is increased with reference to the displays of the state of the art, more particularly at the level of the values of the twenties.
- this pitch value is a function of the width of the indications 4 concerned, so as to correspond to the irregular angular positioning of indications along the indicating scale.
- this pitch value will for example be smaller between two indications 4 associated with units of the date than between two indications 4 associated with twenties of the date.
- the present invention preferably provides that the display mechanism comprises a mobile display arranged to control the movements of the display hand 2, and an actuating mechanism arranged to cooperate with the mobile display and move it according to different successive positions associated with the indications 4, in such a way that the different successive positions have between them at least two different pitches.
- the display mechanism so that the hand 2 can move in such a way that its different successive positions have between them at least two different pitches.
- the actuating mechanism may include a cam against which a feeler is arranged to rest, the feeler being kinematically linked to the mobile display, the cam having at least two different slope values depending on its length in such a way that the mobile display can be driven in rotation according to two different pitch values for the same angle of rotation of the cam according to the orientation of the latter with reference to the probe.
- the actuation mechanism may comprise first and second partner wheels of a non-circular gear or a first partner wheel of a non-circular gear, the display mobile comprising a second partner wheel of the non-circular gear, the first and second partner wheels being arranged such that they mesh with each other with a variable gear ratio, the display mobile being driven in at least two different pitches .
- non-circular gear it should be understood, conventionally, that it is a gear between two partner wheels having a contact region whose position, with reference to the centers of rotation of the partner wheels, depends on the angular orientation of the partner wheels.
- the mobile display comprises a set of teeth 14 having at least two different pitches and arranged to cooperate, on the one hand, with an actuating mobile 16 of the actuating mechanism and, on the other hand, with a jumper 18 to position and hold the display mobile, the teeth being indexed to the position of the indicator scale 5.
- Display member 2 is a hand which points to a date indication of counter 6 while being integral with the display mobile.
- the actuating mobile 16 here has the form of an actuating rocker, by way of non-limiting illustration, the latter being pivoted along an axis of rotation X1 with reference to the frame of the watch movement.
- the actuating rocker comprises an arm 20 intended to receive impulses from a drive mobile (not visible) of the movement watchmaker to rotate the actuating rocker, in the clockwise direction, and rotate the mobile display.
- the actuating rocker carries a double jaw 22 comprising first and second teeth 24 and 26 arranged to cooperate with the toothing 14 as described in the prior patent mentioned above.
- the actuating rocker cooperates in particular with a forty-eight cam 28, by means of a sensor 30, the forty-eight cam 28 comprising forty-eight notches of different depths and each of which corresponds to a given month among the forty -eight months of a leap cycle.
- the first tooth 24 acts on the toothing 14 during the transition from one day to the next until the last day of a given month.
- the second tooth 26 is intended to act on a suitable recess 32, provided in the toothing 14, to cause the date to pass from the value of the last day of a given month to the first day of the following month when the current month has fewer than thirty-one days.
- the information relating to the number of days of the current month is read on the forty-eight cam 28 by inserting the feeler 30 into a given notch, which defines the starting position of the actuating rocker and therefore its amplitude of pivoting, as disclosed in the aforementioned prior patent.
- the double jaw 22 is carried by the actuating rocker by means of a pivot connection associated with a spring 34 so as to form a pawl, retractable when the actuating rocker returns.
- a double positioning member 36 maintains the respective angular positions of the forty-eight cam 28 and of the actuating rocker when they are not rotated.
- the display mechanism according to the present invention is distinguished from the prior art by the fact that the needle 2 moves according to variable pitches along the indicator scale 5. Apart from other possible constructions such as those mentioned above high, it is possible to make a adapted drive of the needle 2 by producing a set of teeth 14 having teeth of variable width.
- the date hand 2 is positioned opposite the indication 4 corresponding to the first of the month in the configuration illustrated on the figure 2a , 2b and 3 .
- the angular position of the mobile display is determined by the two teeth of the toothing 14 which cooperate with the jumper 18.
- a careful examination of the toothing 14 shows that a first series of teeth 141, associated with the date units, has a first width and is followed by a second series of teeth 142, associated with the tens of the date, having a width slightly greater than that of the teeth 141 of the first series, the second series being followed by a third series of teeth 143, associated with the date twenties, the width of which is very slightly greater than that of the teeth 142 of the second series, the third series being finally followed by two teeth 144 for the thirties of the date with a width substantially identical to that of the teeth 143 of the third series.
- the actuating rocker when the actuating rocker receives an impulse, its first tooth 24 exerts pressure on the tooth of the gearing 14 located immediately upstream of the jumper 18 to rotate the display mobile, as illustrated in the picture 3 .
- the jumper 18 is located close to the tooth of the gearing 14 intended to be driven by the first tooth 24 so that the tooth intended to be driven is indeed in the trajectory of the first tooth 24
- the role of the jumper is not only to hold and position the display mobile with reference to the indicator scale 5 but also to position the toothing 14 with reference to the actuating mobile 16.
- the jumper at another location by providing that the mobile display has two separate teeth, a first toothing cooperating with the jumper, and a second toothing cooperating with the mobile drive.
- the first and second teeth have sequences of identical angular pitch variations but have different angular orientation and/or radii. It is noted that, in the case of a set of teeth with symmetrical teeth, it is preferable for the set of teeth 14 to be shaped in such a way that its widest tooth has a width less than twice the width of its narrowest tooth. Such a limitation is not necessary in the case of asymmetrical toothing.
- variable-pitch operating principle does not modify the nature of the action of the second tooth 26 of the actuating rocker on the toothing 14, at the end of short months, compared to what was described in the prior patent. quoted above.
- the toothing 14 has a tooth 141 'of greater length than that of the other teeth so that it can cooperate with the forty-eight cam 28 once a month to advance it from one month to the next. .
- the implementation of the present invention is not limited to the display of the date. Indeed, the person skilled in the art will not encounter any particular difficulty in adapting the present teaching to the implementation of a display mechanism of a magnitude other than the date, whether it is displayed by numbers, words or even by symbols of variable width, such as the phases of the Moon, for example.
Description
The present invention relates to a timepiece comprising a display mechanism arranged to control the movements of a display member facing an indicator scale comprising different indications having at least two different widths and being separated from each other. by corresponding separation spaces.
Such timepieces have been well known for a long time in the prior art.
These constructions lead precisely to an irregular appearance of the corresponding indicator scales, due to the fact that the indications comprising two figures are closer together than the indications of the units, this being more particularly marked at the level of the indications of the twenties and thirties.
Moreover, the more the display surface of these indications is reduced, the more this irregular appearance is amplified. Thus, for example, the indications two digits of the date appear particularly close to each other when the date is displayed in a small counter.
A main object of the present invention is to provide a timepiece offering an alternative presentation with reference to known timepieces in terms of display, in particular improved readability.
- a mobile display arranged to control the movements of the display member, and
- an actuating mechanism arranged to cooperate with the mobile display and move it along different successive positions associated with the indications, such that the different successive positions have between them at least two different pitches.
Thanks to these characteristics, the display associated with the mechanism according to the invention appears more homogeneous and airy than the displays of the prior art and is consequently more readable than the latter.
According to a first preferred embodiment, the actuating mechanism may comprise a cam against which a feeler is arranged in support, the feeler being kinematically linked to the mobile display, the cam having at least two different slope values along its length in such a way that the mobile display can be driven in rotation according to two different pitch values for the same angle of rotation of the cam as a function of the orientation of the latter with reference to the feeler.
According to a second preferred embodiment, the actuation mechanism may comprise first and second partner wheels of a non-circular gear or a first partner wheel of a non-circular gear, the display mobile comprising a second wheel partner of the non-circular gear, the first and second partner wheels being arranged in such a way that they mesh with each other with a variable gear ratio, the display mobile being driven in at least two different pitches.
According to a third preferred embodiment, the display mobile comprises a toothing having at least two different pitches and arranged to cooperate, on the one hand, with an actuating mobile of the actuating mechanism and, on the other hand, with a jumper to maintain the position and/or the orientation of the display member, the teeth being indexed to the position of the indicator scale.
In this case, the actuating wheel set and the jumper are preferably arranged in such a way that the actuating wheel set actuates one of the teeth with which the jumper cooperates, to move the display member.
In addition, provision can be made for the toothing to have at least three different pitches.
In a particular variant embodiment, provision may be made for the toothing to be shaped in such a way that its widest tooth has a width less than twice the width of its narrowest tooth.
In general, provision can be made for the indications to indicate the date and/or possibly for them to have three different widths.

A visual examination of the
The
Such a display therefore presents a notable difference in the presentation of the date values between the start and the end of the indicator scale, which may not be suitable for everyone from an aesthetic point of view and somewhat reduces readability. in the regions of the scale where the
Throughout the description, the term "width" designates the dimension of the indication in the direction in which the indicator scale extends, parallel or tangential to the indicator scale depending on whether it extends rectilinearly or curvilinear. In the embodiment shown, the indicator scale is circular over an amplitude of 360° and the width of an indication is its dimension in an ortho radial direction. This dimension can be expressed in the form of a distance or an angle in the case of a curvilinear scale. Similarly, the separating spaces represent a dimension measured in the direction in which the indicating scale extends so that the length or angular amplitude of the indicating scale is the sum of the widths of the indications and the spaces of seperation.
The
It can be seen that the
It emerges from the foregoing that, to pass from one
To allow such an arrangement of the
Different constructions can be envisaged for the display mechanism so that the
By way of non-limiting illustrative example, the actuating mechanism may include a cam against which a feeler is arranged to rest, the feeler being kinematically linked to the mobile display, the cam having at least two different slope values depending on its length in such a way that the mobile display can be driven in rotation according to two different pitch values for the same angle of rotation of the cam according to the orientation of the latter with reference to the probe.
Alternatively, provision may be made for the actuation mechanism to comprise first and second partner wheels of a non-circular gear or a first partner wheel of a non-circular gear, the display mobile comprising a second partner wheel of the non-circular gear, the first and second partner wheels being arranged such that they mesh with each other with a variable gear ratio, the display mobile being driven in at least two different pitches . By non-circular gear, it should be understood, conventionally, that it is a gear between two partner wheels having a contact region whose position, with reference to the centers of rotation of the partner wheels, depends on the angular orientation of the partner wheels.
The actuating mobile 16 here has the form of an actuating rocker, by way of non-limiting illustration, the latter being pivoted along an axis of rotation X1 with reference to the frame of the watch movement.
The actuating rocker comprises an
For this purpose, the actuating rocker carries a
The
Note also the presence of two limit stops 38 on either side of the
The display mechanism according to the present invention is distinguished from the prior art by the fact that the
A careful examination of the
Alternatively, it is possible, in particular to facilitate construction and reduce bulk, to place the jumper at another location by providing that the mobile display has two separate teeth, a first toothing cooperating with the jumper, and a second toothing cooperating with the mobile drive. The first and second teeth have sequences of identical angular pitch variations but have different angular orientation and/or radii. It is noted that, in the case of a set of teeth with symmetrical teeth, it is preferable for the set of
This variable-pitch operating principle does not modify the nature of the action of the
Similarly, the
Thanks to the characteristics which have just been presented, a qualitative display mechanism is obtained offering excellent readability and which can be easily adapted to an existing mechanism.
The implementation of the present invention is not limited to the display of the date. Indeed, the person skilled in the art will not encounter any particular difficulty in adapting the present teaching to the implementation of a display mechanism of a magnitude other than the date, whether it is displayed by numbers, words or even by symbols of variable width, such as the phases of the Moon, for example.
The foregoing description sets out to describe a particular embodiment by way of non-limiting illustration and the invention is not limited to the implementation of certain particular characteristics which have just been described, such as for example the construction of the actuating mechanism as described and illustrated. Indeed, as mentioned above, the foregoing disclosure allows those skilled in the art to produce a wide variety of display mechanisms, comprising indications of variable width and separation spaces between them, all substantially of the same width, according to its own needs, without any difficulty and, therefore, without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Finally, it will also be noted that, depending on the type of construction implemented, the person skilled in the art will be able to produce a dragging or jumping display according to his own needs.
