  • the U.S. 3,279,826 discloses a security document according to the preamble of claim 1.
  • the invention is based on the object of proposing a security document which makes manipulation more difficult. Furthermore, the invention is based on the object of proposing a method for producing such a security document, by means of which increased security against manipulation is made possible in a simple manner.
  • This layer of the glass film in the security document has the advantage that manipulation, for example by removing individual layers by machining, is prevented.
  • Such a glass film is brittle, so that at least this layer of the composite body cannot be removed by machining. Rather, an attempt at manipulation would lead to splintering and destruction of the glass layer. This would make the manipulation immediately recognizable.
  • such a glass film has the advantage that, for example, coupling light into the security document from the outside can result in a simple check as to whether at least one layer of the glass film has been manipulated. The light brought into the glass film from outside can occur at other defined points. If the glass is tampered with or broken, the light will be reflected and the defined exit of the light will no longer be visible.
  • an outcoupling window is arranged, it can be aligned with a transparent layer adjoining it, in order to also enable a visual inspection when looking at the document.
  • the layer of glass film with a refractive index that is preferably greater than the layer deviating from the glass film has the advantage that the light is transported exclusively in the layer of glass film and a special security feature is thus created. Due to the refractive index, the coupled light does not exit the glass layer due to total reflection. This light can then be visible, for example, in an end face of the composite body up to which this layer of glass film extends at least partially.
  • At the front edge and / or at least one structure is introduced into the decoupling window in at least one layer of glass film.
  • This structure can be designed in many ways and form a security feature.
  • the structure can be in the form of a surface modification, such as a depression or a roughening.
  • This structure can also include printing or etching of numbers, symbols, images or the like.
  • the structure can also reduce and/or prevent light leakage.
  • the layer of glass film is in the form of a very thin glass layer.
  • This preferably has a thickness of less than 300 ⁇ m, in particular a thickness of less than 100 ⁇ m.
  • This layer of the glass film can thus have layer thicknesses analogous to the other layers for the front booklet and/or the back booklet of the security document and can be used in an analogous manner.
  • the glass film has openings.
  • this further layer can at least partially flow into the openings, as a result of which an improved anchoring of the at least two layers to one another is formed.

  • This coating can be applied, for example, by vapor deposition.
  • this coating can extend partially or completely over the surface of the glass film. This makes it possible for a security element to be introduced through the partial or complete coating itself.
  • such a coating can be further specified and/or personalized by exposure, in particular by means of a laser beam.
  • the layer of the glass film is at least partially roughened. That roughness can be provided on an upper side of the glass layer and have a certain size, contour or course. The total reflection can be eliminated by this roughening, so that the outcoupling window can be created by this roughening.
  • An outer layer is preferably transparent or at least translucent in order to be able to detect a change in brightness from the outside.

This functional layer is embedded in thin glass layers to protect it. Such an arrangement allows the display device to make specific information visible to the user from the outside.

From the DE 10 2013 103 353 A1 a security document in the form of a data page for a book-like document is known. The front booklet is connected to the back booklet. To form the data page, a flap is inserted between the front booklet and the back booklet. The data page is inserted into a book block by means of the flap integrated, which is surrounded by the book cover to form the book-like document, in particular value and/or security document. The front booklet and/or back booklet consists of at least one layer of plastic, in particular polycarbonate. In addition and/or alternatively, the front booklet and/or back booklet can also include a print layer, such as a plastic layer that can be written on, or a layer of paper or cardboard. A compensating layer made of a plastic layer with a glass transition temperature that is lower than the glass transition temperature of the adjoining layers or printed layers of the front or back booklet is preferably provided between the front booklet and back booklet. As a result, an improved adhesive connection between the individual layers to form a composite body can be achieved.

From the EP 1 502 765 A1 a data page for a book-like document of value is also known. It is provided that a flexible layer is provided between a front booklet and a back booklet. This flexible layer can consist of a textile. In order to produce a composite body from these layers, it is provided that the flexible layer has perforations in one area, so that during lamination the front-side booklet and back-side booklet extend through the openings and are welded, glued or laminated to one another. the U.S. 3,279,826 discloses a security document according to the preamble of claim 1.

The invention is based on the object of proposing a security document which makes manipulation more difficult. Furthermore, the invention is based on the object of proposing a method for producing such a security document, by means of which increased security against manipulation is made possible in a simple manner.

This object is achieved by a security document according to claim 1.

This layer of the glass film in the security document has the advantage that manipulation, for example by removing individual layers by machining, is prevented. Such a glass film is brittle, so that at least this layer of the composite body cannot be removed by machining. Rather, an attempt at manipulation would lead to splintering and destruction of the glass layer. This would make the manipulation immediately recognizable. In addition, such a glass film has the advantage that, for example, coupling light into the security document from the outside can result in a simple check as to whether at least one layer of the glass film has been manipulated. The light brought into the glass film from outside can occur at other defined points. If the glass is tampered with or broken, the light will be reflected and the defined exit of the light will no longer be visible. When an outcoupling window is arranged, it can be aligned with a transparent layer adjoining it, in order to also enable a visual inspection when looking at the document.

The layer of glass film with a refractive index that is preferably greater than the layer deviating from the glass film has the advantage that the light is transported exclusively in the layer of glass film and a special security feature is thus created. Due to the refractive index, the coupled light does not exit the glass layer due to total reflection. This light can then be visible, for example, in an end face of the composite body up to which this layer of glass film extends at least partially.

Furthermore, it is preferably provided that at the front edge and / or at least one structure is introduced into the decoupling window in at least one layer of glass film. This structure can be designed in many ways and form a security feature. The structure can be in the form of a surface modification, such as a depression or a roughening. This structure can also include printing or etching of numbers, symbols, images or the like. The structure can also reduce and/or prevent light leakage.

Provision is preferably made for the layer of glass film to be in the form of a very thin glass layer. This preferably has a thickness of less than 300 μm, in particular a thickness of less than 100 μm. This layer of the glass film can thus have layer thicknesses analogous to the other layers for the front booklet and/or the back booklet of the security document and can be used in an analogous manner.

To increase security against manipulation, it can be provided that the glass film has openings. When forming a composite body with at least one further layer, which deviates from the layer of glass foil, this further layer can at least partially flow into the openings, as a result of which an improved anchoring of the at least two layers to one another is formed.

Furthermore, the layer of glass foil can have a coating on one or both sides. This coating can be dielectric or metallic. This coating can be applied, for example, by vapor deposition. Furthermore, this coating can extend partially or completely over the surface of the glass film. This makes it possible for a security element to be introduced through the partial or complete coating itself. In addition, such a coating can be further specified and/or personalized by exposure, in particular by means of a laser beam.

Furthermore, it can preferably be provided that the layer of the glass film is at least partially roughened. That roughness can be provided on an upper side of the glass layer and have a certain size, contour or course. The total reflection can be eliminated by this roughening, so that the outcoupling window can be created by this roughening. An outer layer is preferably transparent or at least translucent in order to be able to detect a change in brightness from the outside.

Provision is preferably made for at least one security element introduced by exposure to be provided in the layer of glass film and/or in the coating on the layer of glass film. For example, irradiation or exposure can be carried out using a laser or another radiation source in order to introduce inscription, personalization or other features to form the security element. Furthermore, diffractive structures can be created in the glass layer, which are easy to verify but cannot be copied by surface-modifying methods in the event of a manipulation attempt.

Furthermore, it is preferably provided that at least one security feature is introduced into the layer of glass film and/or into the coating on the layer of glass film and into the at least one additional layer connected to the glass film, with parts of the security feature being incorporated into the layer of the Glass film and/or the coating on the layer of glass film and parts of the same security feature is introduced at least into the one further layer which is connected to the layer of glass film. As a result, an attempt at manipulation by detaching individual layers can also be detected in a simple manner, since the parts of the security features that are introduced into the layer of glass film and into another layer connected thereto result in a uniform security element when viewed on the security document and paragraphs, interruptions or the like would be recognizable in the event of manipulation.

It can advantageously be provided that the layer is provided in the front booklet and/or in the back booklet and/or in one between the front booklet and the back booklet Compensation layer has at least one active or passive transponder with an illumination source, which couples a light into the layer of glass film. As a result, a further safety check can be carried out when the lighting is activated by looking at a front edge of the composite body up to which the layer of glass film extends.

A further preferred embodiment of the security document provides that the layer of the glass film is provided as a core layer or as a compensating layer between the front booklet and the back booklet. Such a structure makes it possible for the core layer or compensating layer to also have a thicker layer.

Furthermore, it can be provided that the layer of the glass film is transparent or translucent. In particular when this layer is positioned close to an outside of the front booklet and/or the back booklet, a further security feature can thereby be created.

According to a further alternative embodiment of the security document, it can be provided that the at least one layer of the glass film is set back inwards compared to at least one end edge of the composite body and this resulting free space is filled by the at least one layer with a different material. As a result, the structure of this security document is not visible from the outside.

The at least one layer of the glass film can preferably have at least one predetermined breaking point. This makes it possible for manipulation of an adjacent further layer directly connected to the layer of glass film to result in destruction of the glass film, and the manipulation thus becomes obvious.

A further preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the layer of glass film is chemically prestressed on one or both sides. As a result, in the event of an attempt at manipulation by removing individual layers, there can be a change in the planar alignment of the composite body, which is an indicator of a forgery forms.

Die zumindest eine von der Schicht aus der Glasfolie abweichende Schicht besteht beispielsweise aus einer oder mehreren Kunststoffen, insbesondere aus Polycarbonat (PC), ganz besonders Bisphenol-A-Polycarbonat, Carboxy-modifziertem PC, Polyethylenterephthalat (PET), dessen Derivaten wie glykolmodifiziertem PET (PETG), Carboxy-modifiziertem PET, Polyethylennaphthalat (PEN), Polyvinylchlorid (PVC), Polyvinylbutyral (PVB), Polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA), Polyimid (PI) Polyvinylalkohol (PVA), Polystyrol (PS), Polyvinylphenol (PVP), Polypropylen (PP), Polyethylen (PE), thermoplastischen Elastomeren (TPE), insbesondere thermoplastischem Polyurethan (TPU), Acrylnitril-Butadien-Styrol-Copolymer (ABS) und/oder deren Derivaten, oder aus Papier und/oder Pappe oder aus einer Mischung der vorgenannten Materialien. The at least one layer that differs from the layer of glass film consists, for example, of one or more plastics, in particular polycarbonate (PC), especially bisphenol A polycarbonate, carboxy-modified PC, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), its derivatives such as glycol-modified PET ( PETG), carboxy-modified PET, polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinyl butyral (PVB), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polyimide (PI) polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl phenol (PVP), polypropylene (PP ), Polyethylene (PE), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), in particular thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) and/or derivatives thereof, or of paper and/or cardboard or of a mixture of the aforementioned materials .

The layer of glass foil preferably has a refractive index of greater than 1.6. In this way, total reflection within the glass film is ensured, for example in the combination of the layer of glass film and a polycarbonate layer. A polycarbonate layer has a refractive index of 1.585, for example.

The object on which the invention is based is also achieved by a method according to claim 13 . As a result, light can be coupled into the glass layer from the outside and safety check to be carried out. The light can then extend to another edge as far as an outer edge of the assembly, emerge at the end edge or via the outcoupling window.

The glass film can preferably have at least one roughened surface, which improves the bond with at least one further layer made of a material that differs from the glass film.

Provision is preferably made for the at least one layer of the glass film to be provided as strip material, in particular as a glass roll, and fed to a laminating device together with the at least one further layer. As a result, a web-shaped composite body can be produced in a continuous process. This increases productivity.

Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the composite body guided out of the laminating device is cut into individual blanks. Depending on the desired formats and sizes, the blank can be designed for the individual use.

It is preferably provided that the security element according to one of the above-described embodiments can be provided for multiple uses, such as a data page for a book-like valuable and/or security document, as a passport, as an ID document, in particular in an ID-1 or ID-3 format, as a debit card, Visa card, driver's license, access control badge, visa, gift or shopping card or other proof of entitlement.

The invention and other advantageous embodiments and developments thereof are described and explained in more detail below with reference to the examples shown in the drawings.

In figure 1 a first embodiment of a security document 1 is shown in perspective. This security document 1 has an ID-1 format, for example. Such ID-1 formats are used for check cards, Visa cards, telephone cards, driver's licenses, health insurance cards and/or other authorization IDs. Alternatively, the security document 1 can include an ID-3 format or other formats. The security document 1 comprises a front booklet 2 and a back booklet 3 which are connected to one another to form a composite body 4 . This can be done by gluing or laminating. The front booklet 2 has at least one layer 5,6,7 and the back booklet 3 has at least one layer 8,9,10. In the exemplary embodiment, a symmetrical number of layers for the front booklet 2 and back booklet 3 is advantageously provided. For example, the front booklet 2 has an outer protective layer 7 . This outer protective layer 7 is connected to a layer 6 of a glass film. The further layer 5 advantageously consists of a material different from the layer 6 of the glass film, such as plastic, paper, cardboard or a mixture of several of the aforementioned materials.

The back booklet 3 can have a similar structure in this exemplary embodiment. A protective layer 10 is provided on a lower outside. The layer 9 is formed from a glass foil and the layer 8 consists of a material different from the glass foil layer, such as plastic, paper, cardboard or a mixture of several of the aforementioned materials.

The thickness of the individual layers of the front booklet 2 and back booklet 3 can be between 25 and 300 μm, in particular between 50 and 100 μm.

If the structure of the security document 1 is reduced in terms of the number of layers, the front booklet 2 can be formed from just one layer 5 , 6 , 7 and the back booklet 3 from just one layer 8 , 9 , 10 . The structure and arrangement of the layers relative to one another can be adapted to the respective application and are only described above as examples.

The layer 6, 9 consists of a glass film. This glass film can consist of a glass such as borosilicates and/or aluminum borosilicates. This layer 6, 9 is preferably designed as a so-called ultra-thin glass layer. Ultra-thin glass is glass with a thickness of less than approx. 300 µm, which, due to its low thickness, can be bent like glass fiber and even rolled up into a glass roll. Such ultra-thin glasses can be combined with further layers of different materials, such as plastics, paper and/or cardboard, to form a composite body. Such glass foils have a glass transition temperature Tg of approx. 500°C to 750°C. Although this glass film is flexible, it is designed to be brittle.

The at least one additional layer 5, 7 of the front booklet 2 and/or at least one additional layer 8, 10 of the back booklet 3 can be made from one or more plastics (polymers). In particular, protective layers or so-called overlay films can be provided as outer layers 7 , 10 . These are, for example, transparent and preferably colorless and have a high abrasion resistance.

Analoges gilt auch für das Rückseitenheft 3.The security document 1 has personalization data 22 on an outside. In addition, an image 19 or other symbols, emblems or the like can be provided. In the case of a security document 1, an ICAO zone 21 be provided. This image 19, the ICAO zone 21 and/or the personalization data 22 can be incorporated into the front booklet 2. Alternatively, these can also be applied to the back booklet 3 or to the front and back booklets 2, 3 or partly to the front booklet 2 and partly to the back booklet 3. Depending on the number of layers and the selection of the layers, these can be introduced in different forms. In the exemplary structure, the data and information in layer 6 made of the glass film can be incorporated in layer 5 made of a different material or in both layers, either completely or in parts. In this exemplary embodiment, the layer 7 can be in the form of an overlay film or protective film. Part of the information or all of the information can also be introduced into this layer 7 . The same applies to back cover booklet 3.

In security document 1 according to figure 1 For example, it is provided that the layers of the front booklet 2 and back booklet 3 extend over the entire format of the composite body 4 . A peripheral end edge 35 is thereby formed, with each layer extending up to the end edge 35 . The at least one layer 6, 9 designed as a glass film can be visible from the outside and/or be transilluminated. This forms an additional security element.

Alternatively, it can be provided that the layer 6 , 9 made of glass foil only partially extends with an end edge 35 to the outside of the composite body 4 . For example, it can be provided that a part of a front edge 35 is provided on a long side and a further part of the front side 35 on a narrow side and/or an opposite long side. This allows a kind of light channel to be created. If light is coupled in at a section of the front edge 35, this light is transported along the light channels and coupled out at other points. Any number or any pattern can be provided for this purpose, which in turn forms a security feature.

The front edge 35 itself can also have a security feature in which this has, for example, a notch or a recess. This indentation or recess can also be filled with another light-refracting material. Furthermore, it can also be provided that symbols are applied to the front edge 35, for example numbers, letters, lines, images or the like.

In figure 2 is an alternative embodiment of the security document 1 to figure 1 shown. This embodiment deviates from security document 1 in figure 1 from the fact that an asymmetrical structure is provided in the number of layers. A core layer or compensation layer 28 is provided between the front booklet 2 and the back booklet 3 . In the embodiment in figure 2 For example, the front booklet 2 is provided with the layer 6 of the glass film and the layer 7 as a protective layer. The back booklet 3 has an analogous structure, for example, and is formed from the layer 9 of the glass film and the protective layer 10 . Alternatively, it can be provided that the number of layers for the front booklet 2 and the back booklet 3 differ from one another. The structure and sequence of the layers of the front booklet 2 and back booklet 3 can also differ from one another.

Independent of the modified and previously described embodiments of the security document 1 according to FIG Figure 1 and Figure 2 provided that in any case at least one layer 6, 9 of the glass film is provided in the security document 1.

In figure 3 is a schematic view of a core layer or compensation layer 28 of the security document 1 in figure 2 shown. This compensation layer 28 or safety layer can consist of one or more layers and has a recess 29 . An IC chip 25 of a transponder module 24 can be positioned in this recess, for example. An antenna 26 of the transponder module 24 can be applied to the compensation layer 28 . This IC chip 25 can have an illumination source 27 . If the compensating layer 28 is formed from a layer 6, 9 of glass film or includes a layer 6, 9 of glass film, a light from the illumination source 27 can be emitted directly be coupled. If the core or compensating layer 28 consists of several layers, such as a layer 5, 8 made of plastic, which is connected on one or both sides to a layer 6, 9 made of the glass film, light can also pass through the illumination source on one or both sides 27 be coupled. If the layer 6, 9 of the glass film extends to at least one end edge 35 of the security document 1, an additional security feature can be formed by this illumination source 27, since the coupled-in light exits at the end edge 35 and is visible from the outside. In the event of a possible manipulation, the glass film can break due to its brittleness, as a result of which the exit of light to the at least one end edge 35 is impaired.

A further alternative embodiment provides that in a plane of extent of the layer 6, 9 made of glass, to which a further layer with a different material is connected, a decoupling fastener 38 can be provided. In the case of the layer 6, 9 made of glass, this decoupling window is formed, for example, by roughening. As a result, there is no total reflection of the coupled light in the glass film in this roughened area. Rather, the light can exit at this point or this area. The adjoining layer 6, 9 or outer layer is preferably transparent, at least in the area of the underlying outcoupling window 38, so that the light coupled out through the outcoupling window 38 becomes visible. For example, the compensating layer 28 can also have a decoupling window 38 and the overlying layer 6, 9 of the glass film can also have such a decoupling window 38, which are partially or completely congruently superimposed. If security features are again introduced in the respective decoupling window 38, these can also be provided one above the other or adjacent to one another to form a common security feature.
