Description

Trawl block suspension Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a trawl block suspension, comprising a trawl block suspended to a linear movable wagon on aft of a vessel, for supporting and guiding a towline of a trawl.
Background of the invention
Trawling is a method of fishing that involves actively dragging or pulling a trawl through the water behind a trawler. Trawls are fishing nets that are pulled along the bottom of the sea or in midwater at a specified depth. A trawler may also operate two or more trawl nets simultaneously (double-rig and multi-rig). When using several trawls, a mid weight is normally used between two trawls. In icy condition, the ice flakes on the surface of the sea may pose a danger to the towline holding the mid weight.
Disclosure of the state of art
Standard installation as per today is to use a trawl block suspended to a wagon at the CL, aft of a trawler. This trawl block is used to handle the mid weight, which can be 6 tons, used between the two fish nets. The wagon is actuated back and forth by a chain going around a pulley and a winch. The weight may be stored in a support (welded structure).
NO 139816 B discloses a crane and block arrangements for guiding trawl net cables over the stern of trawler vessels to a trawl winch on board, and is concerned with providing an arrangement which facilitates trawling in ice-filled waters. Each trawl cable block is pivotally suspended like a pendulum at an upper end of a crane provided by an arm which is doubly cranked similar to that of a drop davit. The lower end of the arm is pivotable about an axis approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vessel. The arrangement of a pair of arms is such that the outer ends thereof almost meet in a lowered position in which the cable blocks are positioned below the plane of the deck whereby the trawl cables lie approximately in the centre of the propeller race in an area where ice has been removed by passage of the vessel and the action of the propeller. Objects of the present invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a solution that allows lowering the trawling block in order for the towline to avoid ice flakes. This offers in addition a better stability for the ship when trawling, as the towline is lowered.
It is at least an object to provide an improved trawl block suspension. Summary of the invention
The objects according to the invention are achieved with trawl block suspension suspended to a linear movable wagon on aft of a vessel, for supporting and guiding a towline of a trawl, wherein said wagon comprises a frame, the trawl block is connected to an end of the frame, and said frame is articulated connected to the wagon, such that at least the end of the frame with the trawl block can be lowered and raised.
Said frame is preferable articulated connected to the wagon by a plurality of links, and is tiltable by a number of cylinders, for lowering and raising the end of the frame with the trawl block. Said frame can be an A-frame with a wide part and narrow part, and the trawl block can be connected to the front end of the narrow part of the frame.
At least one short link can be articulated connected between the wagon and the wide part of the frame, and at least one main link can be articulated connected between the wagon and the wide part of the frame, at a point different from the short link, and at least one cylinder can be articulated connected between the wagon and the wide part of the frame, at a point different from the short link and the main link.
Said frame can be tilted from a basically horizontal position to an oblique position. The oblique position is determined by the length of the short link and the main link, said main link can be longer than the short link.
In a particular embodiment two short links are articulated connected between the wagon and a rear point on the wide part of the frame, each short link being a bar. In a particular embodiment one main link is articulated connected between the wagon and a point in front of the middle of the wide part of the frame, said main link being of a lattice construction. In a particular embodiment two cylinders are articulated connected between the wagon and a forward point on the wide part of the frame, each cylinder being a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder.
A split support structure for support of a mid trawl weight can be suspended to the trawl block suspension, and the frame and the wagon is allowed to travel through the split support structure.
The wagon can be actuated back and forth in the trawl block suspension by a chain going around a pulley and a winch.
Description of the diagrams
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the following diagrams wherein:
Figure 1 shows a trawl block suspension according to the invention, with a mid weight in a resting position.
Figure 2 shows the trawl block suspension according to the invention, with a trawl block in a raised position.
Figure 3 shows the trawl block suspension according to the invention, with the trawl block in a lowered position.
Figure 4 shows a wagon and a frame being part of the trawl block suspension according to the invention.
Description of preferred embodiments of the invention
As seen in figure 4, a wagon 2 being part of a trawl block suspension 10 comprises a frame 5 suspended on its underside. The wagon 2 is actuated back and forth by a chain 18, belt or similar, going around a pulley 22 and a winch 24 (as seen in figure 1 ), and the wagon 2 may further comprise a fastening point 1 for a winch wire and sliding pads 3 to ease movement of the wagon 2. The frame 5 can for instance be an A-frame with a first wide part and a second more narrow part. A back end 5b of the wider part is articulated connected to the wagon 2, preferable by two short links 4 in the form of for instance bars. A main link 9 is articulated connected between the wagon 2 and the wider part, preferable at point forward of the short links 4 and forward of a middle point of the wider part. To also take up sideways forces the main link 9 can be of a lattice structure. One or two pressure cylinders 8, hydraulically or pneumatically driven, are also articulated connected between the wagon 2 and the frame 5, preferably at a front end of the wider part of the frame. Said cylinders 8 are thus being connected in front of both the main link 5 and the short links 4. The main link 9 and the cylinders 8 can be connected to the same part of the wagon 2, i.e. preferably at a front part of the wagon 2.
At the front end 5a of the narrow part of the frame 5 is a pivotable trawl block 6 suspended by for instance a swivel 7.
The manipulator as shown is composed of two types of links 4,9, articulated between the supporting wagon 2 and the main body of the A-frame 5. This geometry allows a compact construction when the cylinders 8 are retracted, and a long reach downwards when deployed. The geometry as pictured offers minimum deformation when fully loaded, both in upper and lower position. Figures 1 -3 shows the trawl block suspension 10 with the wagon 2 and frame 5 in different positons. A towline 12 may run from a trawl winch (not shown) and a forward block 16, thereafter through the trawl block 6 on the front end of the frame 5 and to a mid weight 20. In figure 1 the wagon 2 is in a parked position and with the frame 5 in a raised and compact position. The cylinders 8 are retracted and the links 4,9 are folded. The mid weight 20 is resting on a support structure 14. In order for the wagon 2 with the frame 5 to drive past the support structure 14, said support structure 14 can be of a split construction.
In figure 2 the wagon 2 is driven out from the parked position shown in the support structure 14 to an active position. The frame 5 and the trawl block 6 are still in the raised position. Towing may be activated in this position. In figure 3 the wagon 2 is in the same position as shown in figure 2, but the frame 5 and the trawl block 6 are now in a lowered and active towing position, driven down to an unfolded position by extracting the cylinders 8 and the links 4,9. In figure 2 and 3 the wagon 2 is hidden, but can be envisaged as the cylinders 8 and the links 4,9 are connected to the wagon 2.
The middle trawl block 6 is connected by the swivel 7 to one "sledge", i.e. the front end of the narrow part of the A-frame 5, and the trawl block suspension 10 is to be arranged beneath platform deck in CL of the vessel. The mid trawl block suspension 10 shall be dimensioned according to breaking load of trawl wires. The object is that the trawl block 6 shall reach as far as possible down towards trawl ramp in ice operating condition. Hydraulic cylinders 8 for the arrangement can be in marine standard, with piston rods, bolts and fittings of ARS. Cylinder barrel can be galvanized.
Motion control valves (not shown) can be used on each cylinder 8 in case of leakage. Capacity should be sufficient to move the front end of the frame 5 with the trawl block 6 with full tension on trawl winch, and with sufficient speed of block movement to get from far aft and lower position to parked position in a short time.
Bolted service hatches can be arranged in trawl gallow deck where necessary for access.
Remote control of the ice-trawl gallows and the mid trawl block suspension 10 with locking systems can be from aft control desk on the bridge and from control station aft on trawl deck. Indication lights for locking arrangement can be fitted at both control stations. The complete system may comprise acoustic signal on trawl deck aft for movement. A WT-cover can be arranged over the control station panels.
In a simple configuration the rear end of the frame 5 can be directly connected to the wagon 2, and be tiltable by cylinders 8. However, movement is restricted and it may not support heavy loads.
It is thus more preferable with the links 4,9, disclosed previously, as it increases movement of the frame 5 and thus movement of the trawl block 6. It will also support heavier loads.
